@Dennisch That's a classic vintage set! 👍 Great to see a bit of nostalgia got the better of your wallet. :D

It also just happens to be (coincidently), the only other technic set my partner still has from her childhood. Although she still has a good majority of the pieces to it, unfortunately the technic figure is missing, (she suspects it may have got mixed up with her brother's sets, which he sold a long time ago on ebay).

This year's big Technic set is massive, the CAT D11! Believe it or not, it is not the highest piece count Technic set, though. That honor goes to the Liebherr (set 42100) from 2019, with 4,108 pieces while the CAT has 3,854. It will probably be the last Lego set I buy for a while as 2020/2021 killed my wallet enough...

So many choices they had. The Koenigsegg Jesko, a very poorly done Mk V Supra (like just not that good of a job by the designers), and the one I picked up, the double C8.R Vette and 68 Stingray. Really like these Speed Champions models. Great size.

Hello everyone. I've been quite a fan of Lego since I was a kid and thought I'd finally start posting here.

As you can see, this is a quasi Speed Champions-type Ford GT40 Mk. I. I'm not really aiming for complete accuracy, I just thought I'd try my hand at making something of that specific caliber. I may make a replica of the Gulf GT40 depending on whether or not I obtain the new Speed Champions Ford GT/Bronco set with the dedicated Gulf blue/orange windscreen.

I've made plenty of models in the few months I started playing around with Stud.io, so if any of you would like to see some of my other vehicles, I'd be happy to post more pics. I specialize in making 8-wide cars styled like Le Mans sports-prototypes from the '60s and '70s, not total replicas per se, but I could make replicas if any of you would like to see them.

@RyanRacer That looks awesome. Probably one of the best Speed Champion Gt40 MOC's i've seen so far! 👍

I'm not too keen on the side air intakes though (just before the rear wheel), though it would be the perfect piece to use if it just didn't have that little kick at the back of it. Also, i bet like me you'd wish for Lego to make a 1X3 (or 2X3) curved slope, that's only 2 plates high. As i can just picture how beautifully it would extend and flow into that kicked up duck tailed rear spoiler, on your model.

And i'm with @Jump_Ace Please post more of your pics. If they're anywhere near the level of that beautiful Gt40, then i'm really looking forward to seeing them! 👍

I've been doing a little messing around in Stud.io myself, and have started to work on a Speed Champions car i'd been meaning to attempt for some time now, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo V rally car. However, sometimes before creating a new MOC, i'll do a quick Google search to see whether anyone else has attempted one of the same car, and surprisingly it turns out not many have. However i did come across one that really caught my eye. It wasn't of the rally car but the road going version, and i feel they nailed the front and back of the car, perfectly!
Considering how limited we MOCer's are for choices in part shapes that Lego produce, and after looking at the MOC i came across during my search, i realised what they'd came up with was the best solution, and i couldn't see myself achieving anything closer to the real thing. So rather ashamedly i pretty much copied what they'd done on the front and rear lights and bonnet. If anyone's interested in seeing the MOC i'm referring to, then please check out '8wideisbetter' on 'rebrickable.com'.

I've nearly finished the actual model in real brick (just waiting on some parts to arrive), but i'll show a quick WIP render to give an idea of what it looks like. It's come a lot further than the pic below now, i just haven't rendered the pics yet.

Thanks for the kind words! You are definitely right about the rear, I was a bit disappointed with the limitations of not having such a piece (I mean a 1 x 3 curved slope only two studs high would be very useful). I thought about opting instead for simply using a tile followed by a 1 x 2 curved slope, but unfortunately the oddities of structure caused by the duck-tail spoiler meant that if I didn't use the 2 x 2, then the outer 1 x 2 cut slopes along with the brackets sustaining them would be disconnected. Of course, I could easily mitigate this problem by ridding the duck tail spoiler and going for something else, but the problem is I like it quite a bit..

Your Mitsubishi so far is looking incredibly nice. The design of the front/grille is on point (even though you say you lifted it). I'm not sure if this is usual for you as well, but in case it is, I also like designing the front of the cars first. It's subjective probably, but it gives me a much better idea of how the rear should harmonize with the front. The other way around just feels a bit odd. Regardless, it's looking great, and I'm sure there are plenty of ways to improve everything else about the model you took design elements from.

If its pics you would like, then sure thing! I asked mainly because I don't want to accidentally flood this forum with my stuff, lol. I'm really quite flattered you think the GT40 is beautiful, though I will agree it's one of my best. Anyway, here is another:

As you might possibly guess, this is based loosely on the Chaparral 2D. The wheelbase is shorter at six studs rather than seven for the usual vehicles I make (Most Prototypes at the time had wheelbases between 90 and 95 inches). As a result, it looks a bit compressed in a manner like the Lancia Stratos, but I'm still happy with it. I'd go so far as to call this an original model of sorts as the Chaparral influence isn't entirely obvious in that various contours are different, but I'm not sure yet. I'd like to try a standard seven stud wheelbase first and see how that turns out.

I bought this for my nephew this weekend, as I thought he could do it with my Dad who is currently stuck at home recovering from surgery, so it would be nice if they can do some of it together* (well, at least with my Dad in the same room any way...)

He's done the HST already and it looks really good. I'm a bit skeptical about the stickers on the inside of the payload bay, but otherwise it should be a fun build and a really nice collectible/display model.

This is also the last time I go to the new Lego store in Edinburgh 'just for a look'...

I'm glad that you decided to keep the ducktail spoiler, as i feel it's a key element to making it look so good. I like it on your Chaparral inspired Le mans style car too! 👍 At first i did think the headlights gave it a Porsche or Ferrari look (brilliant part usage by the way, love it!), but i can see similar lines to the 2D too. I also really like how you went with a different shaped wheel arch on the rear too. It gives it a very purposeful and convincing look.

Thanks for the kind words about my Mitsubishi Evo MOC too! 👍 And yes, i tend to start with the front/face of the car first as well, though as i'm sure you can attest, even while doing that, other parts of the model are kind of floating around at the back of my mind at the same time.

Mitsubishi Evo update:

I did actually end up making some minor changes up front, in the end. You can still see the DNA from the original MOC i saw, but they'd really found the best solution already (in my opinion). Still i'm happy i was able to change it a little. I still need to do the interior, so that'll be the next step, and i also need to decide what version of the front grill i'm going with, (have done 2 versions).
Also decided while i was at it to do the Evo VI as well, as there's very little difference between them both.

I'm fortunate enough to have never stepped one foot inside a Lego store, else i'd be leaving the establishment considerably poorer than i already am.

That's an awesome looking set though TM! 👍 I'm very tempted to see whether i can acquire one some day, if i can find anywhere that does a decent discount on it.

It looks more like a silhouette racer than a production-based rally car. It's not bulky enough IMO.

Sticker are my true downfall. If I was truly anal about it, it’d take just as long to get them how I really want as it does to build the actual model.

I hate stickers too. My shuttle remains stickerless on the payload doors, and I don't think it really misses them.

The first thing the instructions tell you to do is the display plaque for the HST and my nephew couldn't do it without the sticker buckling in the middle, so I had to prise it off and do it - fortunately it did come off quite easily, but now he has the large display panel for the Shuttle and has left it for me to do the next time I'm in town, which may not be until the weekend after next.

I'm glad to hear that you didn't bother with or miss the shiny panels on the payload doors (considering they are not visible when the doors are closed anyway, it seems like a lot of work for not much gain) so I suspect that I will get that job too 😅 That said, I could become an instant YouTube comedy star by asking my Dad to try it and livestreaming the resulting meltdown.

I've got it on display with the doors open and HST being launched and it looks fine. That said the doors are higher than my eye level.

Have you tried applying stickers with tweezers?
I usually stick an edge of the sticker to a brick separator and attach it that way.

It's a fair point to make, and i think it's maybe the rear light clusters that are giving that impression. Ideally i'd like for the rear wheel arches and wheels to sit one plate lower than they are, as i feel that would help it a bit. Unfortunately though if i do that, it throws the front of the car out, as in real life the bonnet edge sits pretty close to the front wheel arch and wheels. Also i remember the Tamiya 1:24 scale kit i built years ago, sits really low to the ground (tarmac rally stage spec). Still, i may indeed go back to the drawing board with it.

With regards to the Shuttle Discovery's load bay door stickers. I think if i had the set and had to apply them, i'd pre-curl the sticker sheet (roll it around a pen or something), then attach one corner and roll the rest of it on. Would still be fairly tricky though.

Just increase the height by one brick, so it sits at a similar height to the Quattro.

I'm taking it you mean by one plate instead of brick, as that would be three plates stacked. But yes, i'll have a little mess around to see what it looks like. Ideally though, i wanted to avoid adding extra height, as that's one of my pet peeves with regards to Speed Champions sets, as some of them tend to look a little too high. Having said that, i think the Audi Quattro rally car just works in Lego form, even though i think that's mainly down to the real things odd proportions, due to it's comically short wheel base.
I have that same kit. It didn't turn out that well though. I suck at painting.
Mine didn't turn out that well either. It was my first Tamiya model kit, and i ended up painting it all red (with a paint brush ). Also due to a very clumsy mistake, it got stepped on and crushed :ouch: I will definitely replace it some day though, as i just love the way it sits on it's wheels, and i love the livery. That and i have a (yet to build) Tamiya 1:24 Subaru 22B rally car, upstairs in the attic, to go with it.

Here's what I've managed to come up with in terms of making my Mitsubishi Evo V rally car, bulkier.
I'm not sure i like it this way though, so i may work on it some more.

This looks much better!

I actually have two of those as well. I have the '98 version and the '99 version. They turned out a lot better than the Evo, because they are just one solid color.

I'm not quite sure which one i have tucked away in the attic (98 or 99?), but it's the tarmac spec one as opposed to the one with the snorkel and heavy duty tyres etc.

Have refined the little barchetta for my Volkner Mobil style luxury RV moc. It now has working steering operated by rotating the fake gearstick. I did do a version where it used a small 2x2 round plate to steer, but the offset caused by the door hinge and the gears/cogs attached to it, looked kind of messy. I've also worked on the lift part of the RV after someone on another site suggested using bevelled gears and shafts, instead of the chain linked system i'd used. It's better because it reduces the height by one plate, which should allow the floor/living area of the RV be that little bit lower.
Also splashed out on set 42124 (Technic RC Buggy) which i managed to get BNIB off Ebay for £85 (not too bad a deal), as i want to see if i can power the RV's functions by using the new LEGO PU motors.

Please ignore the colour of the bevelled gears, they're just that way so i could see the orientation of them easier. Also the RV will be done in light blue grey/medium stone grey, not the dark grey in the image below.

Have also got this new early WIP on the back burner. It's meant to be a sandrail, that i'm hoping will look a bit like Tamiya's Wild One, when eventually finished.

There's a tarmac spec of both '98 and '99. I know which one you're referring to though, as I think I recall a Safari version of the '98. The '98 version was driven by Colin McRae, and the '99 version by Richard Burns and had a larger roof air intake. I also have the '00 version of the Peugeot 206 in silver and '01 Impreza Rally Car, but never got around to building them. I just don't have the patience to paint anymore, and all my paint has dried up so I'd have to go and buy a ton of paint if I were to build it now. That's why I like building Lego cars so much, no painting involved.

I recently decided to make a new batch of speed champions scale cars. This is technically an older model from months ago, but I only recently finalized it. I'm currently in the process of putting together a real model from parts I got recently, but some haven't arrived yet. This is by far my favorite model out of the twenty or so I've made in total. It originally was meant to be based on the Jaguar XJ13, specifically the Ecurie Ecosse LM69, but it ended up looking a bit like something else. On those grounds, I would say it is worthy of being called an original. I call it the X24.

Note: I'm aware the wedge situated above the engine space doesn't actually exist in any translucent color, but it would under ideal circumstances. The real model I've been working on as of late uses the same wedge, only in red, which I plan to replace with a black one in the future. In any case, you can expect pics of the finished product soon. Thank god for the existence of the promotional Roses set... (for the roof wedge, it's annoyingly rare)
