So the Concorde has leaked:

It's almost a metre long! Coming next month, apparently.

In other news, I went to the local toy shop on my lunch break to check out their Lego section (the entire upstairs) in more depth, I only bought a £4 sabertooth tiger polybag and a £8 "mystery bag" which I definitely expected to be full of single purpose pieces, poorly applied stickers, printed pieces that don't match anything in the bag and general crap but it's actually really good, there's a great variety of basic bricks, plates, a few weird pieces, decorative pieces and even a ball joint. All in all I don't know if I got £8 worth of any particular thing but to boost a general pile of Lego for noodling around with it's not bad at all.

They also have that Buzz Lightyear ship thing in stock at half price, I'm not interested in the license but it's quite a neat ship design. I'm tempted! They also had a 31024 Creator 3-in-1 Roaring Power on the shelf (assembled, no box, no instructions) for £15 but I passed on that, if they still have it next month I might pick it up, it's not my favourite design but it's a reasonable price and one of the alt builds is a twin prop high wing plane which is quite nice, but it's only a small model so I might just seek out the parts for that alone and save some money.

This is what that 500g bag of Lego looks like in a context people in this thread might be able to quantify a little better:

Not bad for £8, but like I said, it only really makes sense if you already have a large stash of bricks and pieces (and I do!)

Any idea what the top two pieces are? They both have Lego marks so they are genuine. I thought the gold one wasn't Lego until I realised it's for a minifig to hold (and that it has a Lego mark) and the modified brick with a clip is the only broken piece I got (included for scale), but the top two pieces are a mystery to me.
That Concorde is pretty and amazing. My best guess on the blue bar is some kind of axle pin (thinking a transformers shoulder piece) where the two round nubs would click into place of some bowl shaped female piece...??? The yellow one is so small, but it reminds me of airplane windows in the City sets. Sorry man, I'm not sure :(

This is brilliant but it won't be cheap. I don't even know if I have the patience to build it with soo many pieces.
2,000 pieces in numbered bags will go pretty fast. I usually clock in around 300 pieces an hour when they are new. Assuming I don't make any big mistakes where I'm wondering why I have so many extra pieces at the end of a bag

I may buy it, even though I’ve told myself enough for now. I have the Saturn 5 Apollo rocket with 1969 pieces. Haven’t guilt it yet. Concorde looks to be a showstopper when displayed if the photos do it Justice.

Completed the 9X8 earlier this week and it looks as stunning as I hoped. I bought it purely on a whim in the Prime Day sale, having not built a set since my childhood.

And now I’ve just gone and got myself the 911 RSR… it’s fair to say I’m invested in this new old hobby of mine…

I recently had a go at a Lego GSXR4 as well except mine is 6 studs wide.
Man i would love to see it! I'm curious as to whether you've used the smaller but more rounder wheel arches on it, as i think they would definitely look better using those on a 6-wide scale.

That Concorde looks awesome! Can't wait to see some detailed reviews on the set.

And @sesselpupser, that yellow piece looks like it may be some kind of utility belt for the minifigures. The two holes looks like it's designed to be placed over the hip/leg piece, before attaching the torso on top.

Yeah, it's not cheap at $200/€200/£180 (probably), it would be the most expensive set I've bought if I do buy it. We actually have a Concorde display at work (loosely speaking, anyway - they're arrowhead-shaped wind tunnel test things) that looks amazing and I'd love to make a similar-ish display with Lego planes! All I need is an enormous wall that doesn't get direct sunlight and a lot more planes (I think I have 9 so far)

You're right! The mystery bag came with two Batman-shaped things so I was able to narrow it down to a Batman belt! Thank you!

@sesselpupser
With the second hand value of the Batman utility belt starting at 79p, goes to show that £8 mystery bag is looking like a good bargain!

[edit]
Actually the price varies depending on where you look. But i still think that £8 mystery bag is a bargain! Looks like a good way of acquiring unusual pieces, that might not have been on the radar.

It'd probably be closer to $300 here in Australia.

After making the mistake of looking up reviews of it and watching Tiago Catarino's which basically said "it's a fun build but too expensive", I went and bought one today, along with a 250g mystery bag. I swear it wasn't there before but they had a stand with 250g, 500g and 2kg(!) bags, the latter being £25... Now I'm tempted by that, if the ratio of bricks, tiles, plates and decorative pieces is the same as the 500g bag I bought.

I should have never gone into that shop.

I think Lego would make a killing just selling the Batmobile on its own. This Batcave is getting exciting to build already and I'm only half done with the first book

I saw my older brother's and his wife lego collection.

So I bit the bullet im like im gonna try this as an hobby. So I ordered the Peugoet 9X8 Lemans Hypercar and the Af Corse Ferrari 488 GTE. Im going to order the Porsche 911 RSR next we are going to do it with my cousin.

I got the Peugoet delivered yesterday man its been ages since I built legos. Technic versions have lots of instructions its like a whole new different ball game of building legos.

Im going to enjoy this a lot.

I love it man, its therapy for me really. I can just turn the rest of the world off for a while and zone in (zone out?) for a couple hours or even just 20min. Those sets look dope, I bet they'll be a fun build. They've come a really long way in Technic over the years.

I wanted to get the Ferrari Daytona Sp3 until I saw the price they go for like 600 to 700 in Australian dollar.

For that price id rather get two or 3 sets of Lego Technic. Ferrari Daytona sp3 is clean and mint.

Then again im more of a Motorsport fan. I hope the Ferrari 499P gets the Technic treatment since its a Lemans winner most likely could fetch around 500 to 600. Peugoet 9x8, Ferrari 488 GTE and the Porsche 911 RSR would make a fine collection for anybody who loves legos and motorsport.

Peugeot 9x8 hypercar is starting to grow on me. I do believe its going to be the dark horse in Wec 2024 they are improving the car they could be a threat to Ferrari and Toyota.

The bottom right gold thing is mainly a ninja star for Ninjago. But it was also used as the wheel nut/extendable wheel blade on the Lego James Bond Aston Martin.

I just finished building that one myself last week as well. I love it. One of my new favorites.

I do happen to have all three, and they are definitely three of my favorites.

Is that Speed Champions scale? It looks around the right size. If so I might need to Bricklink it...

----------

I really wanted to want the WEC Porsche Technic set, but I just couldn't get over the nose and headlights. Reminds me of Jared Leto as the Joker in Suicide Squad.

----------

With the latest wave of Speed Champions being reduced in price over the last few weeks, and my nephew expressing an interest in the 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan, I bought 2 of that set, 1 for each of us. I already have it built as per the instructions, so I built up a second set to replicate an earlier version of the car: as it was in The Turbo Charged Prelude to 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Turns out I needed a handful of pieces from the set I bought for my nephew, so... I slightly opened that and helped myself like the terrible uncle I am  I ordered another to replace that one, so he'll be non the wiser.

To my eyes it looks like a Silvia with a Skyline nose grafted on; I think the area behind the rear window is a little too short for a Skyline. The set as is masks that well with the stickers and rear wing.

Edit: thinking about it, all those spare blue bits - and most of the other set I opened - could go towards making the blue Skyline from the 4th movie. Hmmm...

I've been researching Lego planes recently, the Concorde and some museum displays I've seen for work lately have inspired me. I've expanded beyond Creator 3-in-1 but still can't be bothered to trudge through, like, Marvel to look for cool planes because they're usually either huge or ungainly because they're more like play sets than models, and there's just so damn many sets to look at... I wouldn't mind a reasonably sized Batwing, though.

I've also been looking at micro builds, I really like the apparent Lego tradition of making tiny versions of existing sets, it's quite remarkable how they capture the look of a 300-500 piece set with, like, 50 pieces sometimes. Not sure I'll get into collecting those too but if I do ever work out a good concept for a plane display they might make a nice gap filler or something. Just kind of a shame Lego doesn't have a Speed Champions-like fixed scale for plane models, like 31039 and, uh, Aviation Adventures are the same size but one's an F-35B and the other is a single prop, uh, thing.

Finished the Batcave, it was a fun build throughout. It wasn't like the Ghostbusters HQ which had a billion interior decorations which, to me, was tedious AF. This was one of the best builds for it's size.

Apparently John Lewis (UK department store) has big discounts on some of their Lego sets right now, with up to 30% off - including the McLaren F1, Ferrari Daytona SP3, the Peugeot 9X8 (20% off), the Nascar and Ford Raptor sets.

I never understood the saying "ignorance is bliss" until I discovered the existence of this set yesterday. £90 is a bit much for 541 pieces, but there's nothing rare or unusual so I could buy the pieces for £45 instead. I remember saying in this thread that I'm only in it for the builds, not the display (which is still true, today) or collecting, but I am definitely collecting Lego planes. Trying desperately to find ways to limit the scope of the collection, but ignoring City planes with that awful cockpit piece is a no brainer at least. Technic, too, although I really like the cargo plane. And the firefighting plane. And I already have one small Technic plane.

Oh no!

I don't really think they can make a line like Speed Champions but for planes. Cars are all somewhat similar size, so they could use 8-wide for all cars and it would be more or less the same scale. But planes differ wildly in size, even just fighter jets. So they would either have all plane sets somewhat the same size but all in different scales, or all the same scale but all different sizes.

That's true and hadn't occurred to me, but as most of the most interesting planes in history have been military and Lego won't do military sets (they'd definitely never release something like a licensed V-22 Osprey... Right?) they'd either all need to be licensed civilian planes or fictionalised planes like they have been doing, so when they're already made up they could make a variety of planes that are the same size but with details cribbed from real planes, scaled up or down to proportionally fit the plane. It'd definitely be challenging though, Speed Champs already struggle with the curvier cars and some details at their small scale and the scale of the planes would be smaller (even if the models were larger than SC), often with more details and curves. How would you model something like an F-16's intake with only a few studs in each direction?

I think one of those with a Starfleet badge on would be cool. Or even all the badge variations over the years and series.
