Hmm, ballast. Didn't think of that.

I know allowing some people to use sports tires sounds unfair...but think about how it affects your own lap times. A typical track you might gain 2-4 seconds. That is roughly how much some of the less experienced drivers fall back each lap. I would like to promote as much wheel-to-wheel racing as possible...as well as give drivers who are prone to wrecks the ability to chase down the leaders. But the mixed tire thing is just a thought. I'm not completely sold on it myself...I'm just trying to find a way to allow beginners to run with the experts.

Garris, I think you would greatly benefit from practice sessions following fast drivers. Check out the WRS section of the forum. Watch the replays of past events, download their ghosts and race alongside them. Here is one from laguna seca you can try.

You may find places where braking early yields faster lap times.

Also try out the seasonal time trials. You can load one of the top-10 ghosts right from the results screen and race along side it to find more time on the track.

As for tunes posted on this site. I'd venture to guess that 90% of them are designed for offline racing. They rarely translate to online physics with tire wear. Any tuning i try in practice mode almost always yields a loose feeling car in online mode.

Take chuylers advice on this garris.

There's no point in continually talking about how everyone is faster than you and putting yourself down. It's a matter of practice and wanting to be better. Forget about the other cars and focus on your own lap times. Focus on beating yourself.

About tracks, I like running the longer tracks and it sucks that I didn't get to race last night (and that the bruins won but thats another story). I think the longer tracks should be motivation for people to be smooth, knowing that if they hit something their pretty much screwed. I also tend to get a bit bored on shorter tracks and love the flowing nature of the longer ones, to me those are real drivers tracks.

i did fine on the long track in daylight...it was just the darkness and the chatting that did me in. I also wasn't very confident with my tune. I could have spent another half hour tuning before the race to get the right balance of stiffness for cornering and softness for running over the high curbs.

BTW, I don't have the selected parts for everyone from last night's race. Please message or email them to me if you haven't already.

It looks like I may be the season winner provided i show up next week and don't come in last place. Wiifreak has caught up to Grenade and is down by only 4 points. Now that his car is quick, next week's race should be an interesting showdown. The faster cars will have a huge advantage. If you've been having trouble with consistency, don't worry about driving fast through the curvy parts of this track. Just focus on staying on the track and you'll do well.

Just a random thought: I probably have wrecked on every course. But the ones I can think of right now I was already losing when I had my first wreck: GVE-R, Leguna Seca, Nur. So even without wrecking, I'm still not fast. My fastest Nur lap in testing was 10:18.

I did wreck on Cape and lost a position or two on that one. But that was to Diabolic, who drove the whole race with damage.

A lot of it is my fault. I can't tune, yet. I need to remove that from the equation by finding a good tune that I can use.

@Cape I did drive the whole race with damage and I recall passing you on the last corner with multiple red tires and engine damage. I wasnt going to pit there for any reason. Ever. Just wanted to get it over with.

I was on the poll once and am usually near the top. I'm just a bad driver when ahead. I can chase down like the dickens, but when I go for a pass, I have problems. And then if I'm ahead...even more problems. And if I'm miked...forget it.

This week...no mic, no text...just American Lager and 90 minutes of sweat producing bumper to wall action.

I agree, no mic for me next week. I could get into a conversation on the straight (like I did at Nurburgring) and totally forget I need to brake.

Last week I added the window replacement, the twin clutch and weight reduction 3. This week I should be able to afford the both engine tuning mods I have left :)

Note: I could get second if I win and the following occurs:
Shark: 9th or worse
WiiFreak: 5th or worse

If Shark shows up...he'll be top 4, so that's out. I'm not sure of the straightline speed for WiiFreak, but after the last engine tuning...I'm hoping to hit 200 on the back stretch :D

I am taking my mic off too. Although to be clear, I would have crashed on my own w/o the mic at Nurburgring at night anyway.

Edit: by the way, if we decide to do daylight only, then I would suggest the 2005 version--no chicane and less room for cutting corners.

The race on daytona with the controller killed me :(. Then of course missing this past weeks race didn't help. I am pretty sure I will make the last race and hopefully cement my 2nd place season effort.

You boy's let me know, when the next Pre-Season Kickoff is, I'm very interested in competing.

It will likely be next week, but stay tuned this week for some polls on what needs to change for the next series.

Oh, and I just realized the OP doesn't state which le Sarthe course we are racing. Snoopy suggested the 2005 course but it doesn't have time progression. Please state your preference on 2005 vs 2009 and if you want 2009 whether you want time progression turned on. For both tracks, we will use the chicanes.

I thought the 2005 version is good because it has more sand and therefore less runoff areas. Which means less shortcutting possible, although I don't think any of us would that, having run 2 races so far. The lack of time progression is regrettable.

You do have a point. I honestly don't know the track well enough to know where short-cutting saves time. But I think i'd rather use time progression. Unless there are other opinions, we'll stick with 2009 - time change.

Reminder: Please email or PM me your parts selections. I may have missed some from last week as well.

I would like to request 60/40 day/night split. I know it is hard to set up the time right, because time is ticking during practice and qualifying. It would be nice to finish during the day too.

I can't remember what I had the progression set to last week. Did I mention it during the race? It was either 10 or 20. If anyone has time to experiment and supply an appropriate setting, let me know...I want to get significantly more "day" racing in. I may reset the time to 9:00am before the race starts just to make sure the majority of the race is during the day.

BTW, good feedback thus far on the survey. There are definitely some trends that people want to see so I think everyone will be happy with next season's rules.

Last race the progression has to be 10 because we raced many laps at night. Someone check my math:

time progression = 12
1 min (real time) = 12 mins (GT5 time)

Set GT5 time to 11:00 AM
Lobby opens at 9:30 PM ET

30 mins practice/qualifying = 6 hours (GT5 time) elapsed

Start race at 10:00 PM ET = 5 PM (GT5)

Race for approximately 90 minutes = 18 hours (GT5)

Race ends at 11:30 PM ET = 11 AM (GT5)

I think i'd like to get a full 24hr cycle in for the race. That will ensure the most amount of day time laps.

24 hrs = 1440 minutes

1440 / 90 = 16

Can't make it tonight :( Prolly best anyway seeing as my MR-S hasn't made too many friends.

I am terribly sorry to Grenade. I totaled him on lap nine.

I did enjoy the first six laps. That was some real racing for me. Baldwin was all over me. On lap six I put it in the beach and Baldwin got by me.

I did take him later when he pitted. I don't know if he had a wreck. I had no other wrecks aside from the one with Grenade. That was the cleanest I've done all season.

Again, I'm really sorry to Grenade. Huyler, give me a penalty or something.

**** happens. That's life. I cried a bit. But, I am over it now.

Sorry about bailing on the race, I was slow, the wife was glaring at me and our youngest was screaming upstairs... I think I chose wisely :)

Garris, it was fun to run with someone. Your car was definitely a hell of a lot faster than mine, if I didn't hold on to your draft then you would fly off! I must have missed something in my build as the last few races I haven't been able to hold the speeds everyone else has.

My stupid PS3 blew up at 8:30 as I was just about to sign on and install the upgrades and get some practice in.. I decided to give it a go to see if I could get it apart, heat up the motherboard, let it cool, and then get it all back together again.. I am actually surprised that I was able to get logged on at 10:01 last night!

Anyway, it was a great series and I am definitely game for the next one. Thanks Chuyler, the series was very well thought out and a huge amount of fun.

With my ability (or lack therof) and using a DS3 I was a lot more competitive when the cars were slower. So I'd prefer a slower car progression, but in the end I'd be happy either way.
