I just put down my best lap time so far. Did a 1:55.869 on a 3 lap run. Messed up a little on the 3rd turn and the bus stop, so I know I can get another 3 tenths out of it at least.

I'm braking at 172-174 actually. Just checked.

Way faster than me. Is the race still on.

Yes the race is still on.

I think i hit a perfect 1:54 but it takes a few laps to hit that and my times drop fast as the front tires wear down.

Define "way faster" I know how quick you ran last week in practice and its similiar to his.
Looking at the times...which I think folks might be fibbing about...I'm going to be on poll again :(

Stig, you may mock me any time you want. As often as you want.

I suck so bad. I have never understood emoragequit until now.

The wrecks that remember:

Lap 2, Turn 1: I enter into a cloud of smoke. All of a sudden, there is a yellow Evo on my front bumper. Grenade and I have to take another parade lap around the entire course to pit.

We are now behind the MR-S. I know I can catch up. Instead, I put myself into the wall, twice.

And some point, after entering the infield, I get a little lose. I am then rear-ended by Diabolic. We are going along. Both of us damaged. after the bus stop, I am passing him high. The damage on my back-end though, I get loose, hit the wall, and crash down into Diabolic.

Some point during all of this, I was lapped by the MR-S.

There is another wreck I have. I am in the first hairpin in the infield. I see someone in my mirror, and I overshoot the turn. I'm drifting in the grass. Slight drifts right into me, totaling my car, again.

While pitting for this accident, I have a Grenade pit. No biggie, but Grenade passes me.

The wrecks that really bother me are the two single car wrecks early on. I'm trying to catch back up to the MR-S. If I didn't wreck, I could've at least beaten him.

I just suck that bad.

Good race, a lot of carnage though which was to be expected with that brutal first corner. I knew the only person I could keep up with who qualified in front of me was Slight, and once I got by him I decided to ease off a bit and focus on simply staying on the track. I knew I couldn't outspeed the guys in front of me, but as long as I stayed smooth there was the possibility of overtaking one of them if they messed up badly.

I only had two incidents in the race. The first one was around lap thirty-ish. Grenade got around me on the straight before the bus-stop. I broke too late going into the corner and had to cut into the grass to avoid punting Grenade. I know it looked like a dive-bomb to Grenade, but it was a complete accident. Luckily there was no contact, but still I'm sorry, my bad.

The other was around lap 40. Diabolic spun going into the bus-stop. I slowed down and tried to avoid him, but I hit him anyways and had to pit due to the damage. It didn't really matter in the end as Diabolic ended up pitting a few more times, so I would have finished third anyways.

Man, I didn't mean to type that much. Anyways good race, and hopefully the next race at the Nurb will be a little less chaotic.

That was a lot of fun. Thanks for letting me crash mid-season. I mentioned it a couple of times on the mic, and I want to reiterate that if my joining messes up the points, feel free to disregard my position.

As for the race, my thumbs have tendonitis from gripping the wheel for so long. Ha! I apologize to my 350Z. The car was at least 2 seconds faster and I did the car a big disservice by crashing at turn 1 at the start of lap 2. I had damage at right front for the duration of my first stint. My laptime was about 1 second slower than it should have been. As a result, chulyer and diabolic ran away, until diabolic had damage. I then ran wide at turn 1 after passing diabolic before the start/finish line, tried to get back on track, spun out, got hit by diabolic, then had damage at 3 corners. That lap, I ran a 3:08. That was the end of my race with chuyler.

My second stint was damage free and I was basically running at the same time as chuyler. I know chuyler did not push too hard, and I was afraid of turn 1 and wanted to conserve my tires too. As a result, I ran a much longer 2nd stint.

My third stint started with another incident at turn 1. After that, it was just trying to get the car home without anymore damage. Good fun nevertheless, for sure. The 350Z should have given chuyler a run, but I let the car down. Ha.

Anyway, my car is shared online if y'all want to inspect it. Let me know what times you run with it at Daytona. I like to see where I can improve.

At Nurburgring, I predict that I will pit every lap to fix damage. I have never run a clean, mistake free lap there...

I'm really sorry about sliding into you like that garris. My left rear was damaged and it totally screwed me up under braking. I should've known to leave myself more room knowing my car was unstable.

I'd like to thank Diabolic for giving me hope of catching up throughout the race due to his constant off track adventures. Too bad I screwed up so many times also.

I'm stoked for next week. I can crank out laps on the nurburgring all day and not get bored, especially on racing tires.

My race can be defined quite easily. I would run pretty fast until I crashed basically every lap. I just cannot use a controller it seems :(

I love the recaps. My race was not quite as eventful.

First lap I realized snoop could easily pull away from me if I didn't stay on his bumper to keep his draft. Diablo was also quicker down the straight so if it came down to the final laps of a clean race, I would have been a sitting duck. The only thing going for me was that I could negotiate the infield between 1 and 1.5 seconds quicker.

Snoopy goes off at the beginning but I didn't know he had damage. Diablo and I decided to team up and bump draft to widen the gap. We started with probably a 4 second gap and expanded it to about 8 seconds. Then a few laps in I missed my braking point on the first hairpin. This is my worst turn in the EVO because it doesn't like to turn in. I went hard on the brakes and got it to turn in just before the end of the pavement. I check my rearview and Diablo follows me right into the grass. I dropped to 1st pulled away and ran the fastest, cleanest line I could through the next few turns to keep diablo from getting my draft. I ran quick laps until about lap 17 when my tires got too weak to negotiate the bus stop in 4th gear so I entered the pits and took fresh tires and 10L of fuel.

For my 2nd stint, I just watched the split times to make sure diablo and/or snoop didn't gain too much time on me. I paced up and down running a little slower through my problem turns to save tires. Lapped a few cars but didn't see much action.

I made my second pit stop around lap 34 expecting it to be my last. I took about 30L of fuel and fresh tires. I came out of the pits almost a minute ahead but looking at my gas gauge I may have misjudged how much fuel I needed. I ran clean lines and added another 25 seconds to my lead.

Lap 47 my gas gauge went red with a little sliver remaining. Since I was up by about 1:28 I dropped into the pits for a splash of fuel and fresh tires. I took it easy for the final laps and waited at the finish for 30 seconds to delay the finish timer.

The secret to my success? Well staying out of trouble, duh. For the troublesome brake zones I hit the brakes hard and early then eased off them until I reached a safe entry speed. This technique appears to be just as fast as divebombing because it doesn't overheat your front tires for the turn in.

The bus stop for example I'd brake in a straight line until I could downshift into 4th. I can't tell you what speed since I use the engine sound to gauge my entry speed. I basically coast into the bus stop and get on the gas as I start turning right. A slight tap of the brakes for the exit and I'm on my way. I messed it up only once, and that was attempting to lap snoopy when I had no tires left.

Turn 1 I use the same technique. Hard brake well before your real brake zone and downshift from 5th, to 4th, to 3rd. Ease up on the brakes as the road begins to curve left. Downshift to 2nd and use additional braking if the car refuses to turn in.

My best lap time was a 1:33 flat (in the draft). Without the draft I think I hit a 1:34.3.

Points are Tallied and we have a tie for 3rd place!

Next week is Nuburgring 24H Time Change. I will set it up so we get a full time cycle over the course of the race...unless there is strong opposition and consensus that a less radical time progression should be used.

I did a Recon lap with snoopy and we ran a sloppy 10 minute lap. 8 laps will give us a 1:20 minute race while 10 laps will give us a 1:40 minute race. Please state your preference.

Given how dangerous this track can be, and how long it takes to get back to pit road, I suggest people practice running cool laps and finding safe braking points and speeds for the troublesome corners. Even if you are 10-20 seconds slower per lap, if you can stay out of trouble you'll do well.

chuyler, I vote for 10 laps at Nurburgring. If we start the lobby at 9:30 PM, and race at 10:00 PM, then I think the math would be something like this:

24 hours = 1440 minutes
Set time progression at 10: 24 hours = 144 minutes (game time) (1440 minutes/10 = 144 minutes)

So if we start the lobby at 9:30 PM ET, we could set the game time to 9 AM (GT5), which means that at 10:00 PM ET, the game time should be 2 PM (GT5) start. 10 laps should take us from 2 PM (GT5) to 6 AM (GT5) finish.

Someone check my math. I am not good at calculating time/date.

By the way, during the race I was trying to figure out my pit stop strategy and almost crashed at the bus stop for 2 laps.

I agree with chuyler on the bus stop and turn 1. At bus stop, I finish braking and enter around 95 mph (I think). My exit speed out of the bus stop is also about 95 mph. As for turn 1, I know what to do but just could not do it. I tried 2 techniques: (1) brake early and hard and then coast or (2) brake even earlier, coast, brake more, coast, and brake for the last time. Technique (2) worked better but only if I remember to brake early enough.

Good race to chuyler for sure. Hard not to make mistakes at that track.

I just ran 3 laps at the ring with progression at 30. First lap was 9:45 (off the starting grid + mistakes), second lap was 9:15 (still getting a feel for the car got dark toward the end), third lap was 9:30 (no mistakes but completely in the dark). Tires were under 50% after 3 laps but not by much, a 4th lap could be attempted but it is risky trying to figure out braking points with worn tires. My suspension definitely needs work, its too soft and unpredictable. I hit the rev limiter on the straight heading downhill. Not sure whether I should spend the money on the transmission just for that one spot though.

What are we doing about the parade lap? I'm going to have to put some serious thought into what parts I purchase. BTW am I allowed to remove parts so I can then use the money? I feel like the transmission splurge was a bit of a waste of money. :(

I vote for no parade lap, maybe just a few corners. Like no passing until after the 1st turn, Schumacher S, or entry into the old course?

I am going to save the transmission for la Sarthe. For this race, I will probably add more power.

Looking forward to racing for 8 to 10 laps, but not the heavy damage...

For the parade lap, I think we'll use the Schumaker S. Once the last car exits the hairpin before it, the leader can go.

You cannot sell parts (its stated in the OP). With your low powered car, I'd think the transmission would be key to keeping your speed up. You should experiment with ratios to get the most out of the back straight. I splurged on the fully custom suspension...but in retrospect I probably could have made do with just the height adjustable one. I used some camber for Daytona but I'm not sure it gained me very much time.

With damage on full, I really hope people make adjustments to how they regularly drive this course. Take Schwedenkreuz for example. Almost every online race i've been in, someone has gone wide on that turn into the grass. If you get damage it could add a minute or two to your lap time not including the pit stop. With that looming over your head, hitting the brakes and running it 10-20 mph slower and losing 1-2 seconds doesn't seem so bad. Overall, I expect drivers to run at about 80% capacity. Expect early braking and an overall slower pace.

Okeedoke. You know you can still add up to 4 camber with the height adjustable suspension right? The thing is, I bought the 6 speed one which was 7k more than the 5 speed so not my best idea :(
Owell I still have 35k to spend right :D

Hmm, double fail...so what does the height adjustable one do? I also messed with rollbars and zero-ed out the toe to help with tire wear.

My strategy is going to be consistency and making my tires last. Wait for everyone in front of me to screw themselves

I'm leaning towards going with Stage 3 weight reduction as my upgrade, not sure how fast everyone will be on the back straight though.

Height adjustable has slightly less height variability, up to 4 camber, up to 3 on both front and rear dampers (no difference between compression and depression or what have you) and you can slightly adjust the spring rates as well. 👍

Ahh, so each one is slightly limited. I'm running dampers at 4 and even that feels soft. Glad I spent the extra 10k then.

I was destined for 4th. Its happened 4 straight races now! I was fine for the first 16 laps and then fine for the next 15, but then I had 4 pits in the next 14 laps :(. I kept touching the outside on turn 1 then messing up the braking zone on the bus stop. I not no intention of pitting until I had engine damage due to the speed of my car. I'm quite looking forward to Nurb as well. Lap traffic will be minimal. :)

I don't see why you're all complaining about turn 1. Simple solution - slower cars. I never had a problem with it ;)

Watch my video to see what I was doing. There are 2 relatively clean turn 1 entries at about 11:30 and 13:00. I think of the turn as if there are two apexes. The first is the edge of the pit road exit, the second is the sharp corner on the inner wall.

After the start/finish, work your way down the track and follow the yellow line.
When you see the first pit exit, brake hard about 100-200ft before it and pull the car inside the yellow line.
Stay on the brakes until you reach the first apex then lift off a little
Coast a little and let the car go straight (which will put you in the center of the track) then apply light braking to pull the car into the 2nd apex.
Ease into the throttle and track out as much as you need to.

This may not feel like the fastest line but it gives you plenty of room to make a mistake and you'll always block the inside line forcing someone to go outside of you. In fact, my line is pretty close to this video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBHmmOvWDHo&feature=related

The driver follows the yellow line into the turn, he brakes and crosses over it entering the turn. He hits that first apex just after the pit road exit (note the cones blocking the exit). Then he lets the car slide to the middle of the track so he can get the right angle for that second apex.

Bumpity Bump. Have people decided on upgrades for Wednesdays race yet?

I hit the rev limiter on the downhill part of the straight but I can't decide if I should burn all my cash on the transmission. I might be able to make up the time on other parts of the track with different mods but I'll never be able to keep up on the straight without it.

I'm probably going to add more power and save the money from the race for the transmission to use at la Sarthe. I think the transmission will be most useful there for the Mulsanne straights.

chuyler, what have you found on tire wear? 3 laps?
