Wow. I'm at a loss for words. So the Dutch lost because there were gays there, but (insert redneck voice) "good american vagina lovin boys could fiight way bettar" (end redneck voice)

This is just absurd. COMPLETELY absurd.

Yeah. People with that train of thought, or bigotry of any kind for that matter should just be ended.

Well clearly if the law states that you can't be openly gay and in the military, then you can actually change that, with laws like that (and I remember a case last week of a girl in some US state, where her school had to cancel the prom as she was planning on bringing her girlfriend.) you will create systematic homophobic bigotry. You can change that, and it genuinely amazes me that the US is like this. I remember not so long ago (maybe at the beginning of this year) of the lifting of the ban of anyone with HIV/AIDs on being allowed a visa in to the country.

I don't know what's more ridiculously thick; the actual idea or the poll options posted by the thread creator.

What's this?! A retired military head not being stuck in an old way of thinking?! Whatever next!

I personally went for option number one, as a silly poll deserves a silly answer.

there are plenty of gay dudes that would leave 99% of the people in this forum's faces and limbs in a bloody mess. -_-. During combat, most people are too busy trying to stay alive to worry about sexytime or how hot the guy/girl is next to them. Discipline and smart "programming"/ are what make good soldiers.

It matters not what your sexual orientation is when the defacation strikes the rotating ventilator.

What matters is keeping your bodily parts and fluids to yourself when there is not combat action happening.

I've been in the combat theatre with men of every stripe, background, and sexual orientation.
While I can't neccesarily promote a gay lifestyle, If the guy in the foxhole/behind the tank/etc. next to me is shooting in the general direction of the enemy, preventing them from capturing and/or killing us, I have no problem with his sexual orientation.

Well, if they start jumping up and down screaming "Hold me!!!!!!" when the aforementioned rotating ventilator starts scattering its product, then they're not much use, are they!!! Especially if it's me he's trying to grab and interfering with my aim! [/stereotype] :sly:

Well, in gun to gun combat, the gays might do ok, if they're properly trained.

But when it comes to hand to hand combat, the gays would probably just turn their head away as they charged at the enemy while doing windmill hits. (especially the fat ones)

So, what the military needs then is more gay...?, Hang on, I'm at a loss here.

Instead of "Less gays" I'd ask for "Less military".

It's a truly ridicolous topic in my view. Being gay doesn't absolutely mean you're on the look for a "partner" all the time. The fact of being gay doesn't make you a worse of better soldier. Being a drone that follows orders, does make a good soldier.

Unless you were being sarcastic, that post is just full of idiocy.

As if homosexuals are incapable of mastering advanced fighting techniques. :yuck:

He's never watched Beautiful Boxer, I guess..

Note that there have been gay boxers, gay wrestlers, gay martial artists and etcetera. They're just not too out in the open about it.

The idea of keeping gays (and women) out of the military stems from the idea that you want soldiers to remain focused during their downtime... no romantic attachments... no hanky panky. (but, as stated before... gay people aren't looking for it all the time) Just good old Puritan boys doing their drills in the morning and going to bed at night.

Yeah, right. One guess as to what the most common profession next to a foreign military outpost is?

Yes... even in Bosnia... which the general was talking about in his speech.

Yes, I was being sarcastic. It's kinda hard to get sarcasm through the internet.

I literally laughed out loud at the poll options.

I doubt a persons sexuality has much bearing on their fighting ability.

I have a friend who listens to death metal, drinks beer daily, gets messed up every weekend and usually ends up starting or joining 1 or 2 fights at the bar. Never saw him with a girlfriend but with the knocked out teeth and crazy attitude I never thought anything of it.

Then he "came out" to me one night about 8 years ago. Didn't try to pick me up or hit on me, just trusted me enough to tell me the truth and I was/am cool with it. I kind of expected something to be going on, and I didn't care, he's a pretty good guy no matter what.

Would I want him in the army fighting? No, but if he did join I'd be quite proud and personally I think the army would be lucky to have him.

But your actual gender does!

This is my weapon, this is my gun!

This is for killing, this is for... waaaait'a'minute... Amy... you don't gots a gun, do you? :D

Good god what has happened to the world. Since when did your sexuality affect if you were able to fulfill duty in the military?

You need to take the confederate flag down and get in the 21st century you moronic loser.

If women can be in the military, I see no problems with gays.

Well a gay man would probably have longer nails which is useful for scratching people and untying knots.

That General quoted some Dutch officer which didn't even exist according to the Dutch Army and it later turned out the officer he meant to quote denied everything he claimed to have said.
The Dutch Embassy called the whole incident grotesquely ridiculous and an insult to all gay soldiers who perform their duty with dignity and the sacrifices they've also made.
The misquote and bigot comments from a U.S. Army General regarding an Ally Nation are not only backwards in the global cultural context but also quite rich coming from a nation which at one time was seriously developing a Gay Bomb ( i don't want to explain the details of this obviously failed attempt because it is too stupid and tragically misguided to further go into, you probably can find info on this on the web ).
As for this pole, to take this person serious enough to promote him to General probably says it all, at least here there are enough people who give him the respect he truly deserves.👎

Probably people who are against gays are against women too.

But I see a problem, when you all think in gay people you see this

or think gays are always looking for a partner or sex or all that crap, you're wrong... and the worst is the result: 19-15
