I agree that most gay people are nowhere near that Will and Grace stereotype. At the same time, this stereotype won't be going away any time soon if homosexual men are portrayed like they are in Will and Grace. I can tell you that none of the gay men that I know personally act like that...but when every gay character on sitcoms act like that, there will continue to be people who believe that every gay male really fits that stereotype, as wrong as that may be.

I agree. As a particular example, I'd like to refer to an example that happens on the local spotlight. There's this "lawyer/writter/political researcher/politician/pain in the arse for our tyranic goverment" that's called Felipe Zuleta. He's bald, both physically and mentally. Quite a cult, calmed, interesting guy that has no problem in doing harsh and supported accusations to even the president of Colombia.

This man, talks with a deep, serious voice. Dresses always in a similar serious and cult way. Has the guts to call the president a murder and guess what...he's out of the closet and proud. He's gay. And that doesn't mean he's a cross-dresser, or that he talks with a squeeky voice, or that he isn't able to accomplish his targets just for the sake of being gay.

or think gays are always looking for a partner or sex or all that crap, you're wrong... and the worst is the result: 19-15

I think it's safe to assume that the results aren't quite so close. You can see quite a few people here saying "I voted for a laugh"

You know what's funny? On the History Channel the show Modern Marvels talked about the U.S. Army researching a possible aphrodisiac which will eventually become into a "gay" bomb.

That's right...a gay bomb to turn the enemy...well...gay...

Make love not war was the reasoning.

I think its important to note that the banning of gays in the military is more of a modern development then anything else. The best example of this was in Sparta. Not only was homosexuality rampant in their military but was encouraged. Their reasoning was, among other things, that a military would fight more like a single unit if they were, well, as close as possible. Also there were some cultural factors that were insanely obsessed with masculinity as a whole.

One word: Sparta.

edit: some more words: This is the stupidest poll I've ever seen.

edit again to any idiots who actually picked the 'touching in tank' option and meant it:

Imagine you're in a battle, in a war. If you don't have your act together you're going to die. Let's say your tank mate is the drop dead most incredibly gorgeous sexy-tastic woman who ever lived, and you're a heterosexual male. What are your priorities? Attempting sex with her, or, you know, NOT DYING.

Did you choose right? Congratulations, you're not retarded. Neither are most homosexuals.

As long as somebody can pass the fitness tests to get in, there is no reason why a person of any faith, race, sexuality, etc. shouldn't be allowed to serve their own country.

It just blows my mind that this kind of thing is STILL an issue. There is absolutely no logical reason why gays shouldn't be allowed to serve in the military. End of story.

Like hypermasculine teens citing 300 as an historical reference point for military socialisation?

(Not directed at you or anything.)

Actually it was something we discussed last week in my History of Ancient Philosophy course. We were discussing Plato's Symposium and naturally the "normal" sexual tendencies of the ancient world came up. Not quite sure what you mean about the 300 thing, though. I've only seen it once, and since it varied so far from the actual events that I learned in my high school latin class never watched, nor thought about it again.

Like I said, it wasn't directed at you. A preponderance of painfully vapid masuline posturing and misconceptions about Spartan civilization was in full supply following the release of 300 is all.

Ah I understand. I guess it would be similar to the thousands of people who thought that they knew everything about cars after watching "The Fast and the Furious". 👎
