Trying to take my mind off things, so i decided to do a little sketching.

Iv'e tried to visualise @787bcgr's latest design (iv'e yet to finish it). I could be completely off with my interpretation of his design, but i really wish the front end was less visually busy.. It reminds me too much of a TVR Speed 12 or something. If i can be critical for a moment (no offence intended), i think the designs would be a lot more credible if realistic frontal area was taken into consideration, @eran0004's Volvo kei car is an excellent example of frontal area use, and what is realistically feasible given the proportions we're working too.. That's not to say that 787's designs aren't doable, or that we can't have a super sophisticated front end, i just think that given the parameters we're working to, i find a lot of the complicated front surfaces and vents, unnecessary. I know we're only at the conceptual stages, and my opinion is just that, my own, so i don't expect others to share the same opinion. It could also just be my failure to fully understand his concept.

Here's another sketch, not really a design for the GTP VGT, just looking at how we could possibly incorporate a hubless wheel design with active aero. I haven't really thought it through (it's an unfinished sketch). I'm guessing it probably won't work either, but i'd be interested if @Exorcet could tell us the flaws if it indeed doesn't work (he seems to have a good understanding of aerodynamics).

That latest sketch is probably the best I've seen yet. Love the way the lines flow from the splitter through the lights to the winglets.

The hubless aero design is unique too, drive may be a challenge.

For more downforce you may need to remove air from between the road and the vehicle to create a low pressure zone, suck it down. The air will move around and through your design well and generate some downforce from the flare up at the rear.

I'll certantly say that an MR city car with 300+ HP is gonna be absolutely terrifying. It takes a lot of skill to wield a 170 HP MR kei car on RH tires, let alone one with 300 HP. Maybe we can find a way to make it less scary, or something.

My earlier post was referring specifically to a wing or something sticking out from the wheel which I wouldn't consider very practical. Your sketch with what looks like adjustable vanes (I'm not sure what if that's what it is, but that is what came to me while I was reading the post) on the wheel might be worth it though. Closed wheels do provide an aerodynamic benefit. Also with enough openings on the car as in the second image putting aero on or around the wheels does become a bit more feasible. The problem with a traditional car is that wheels and wheel wells are sources of terribly dirty air because they're like trying to drag a parachute along at high speed. The solution is to close the gap as much as possible. You can do that by just shrinking the wheel wells or by putting the wheels in their own pods so there is just smooth airflow all around them.

Following on from @Exorcet I think some 90's racing cars could be used for inspiration.

To reduce the effect of dirty air we could cover up the wheel arches similar to how they did on the XJR-9. This does have a huge effect on the styling of the car so this is something that would need to be taken up with the Styling Designers. I'm not that great a fan of covering the front wheels, just from a styling perspective, however if it seems like it'll benefit the car significantly, I'll go with it.

If people want the wheels to be on show (we have been designing wheels after all) I think we could follow the route of 1990's BTCC cars, running extremely low ride height and tucking the wheels inside the wheel well. This might just add a little something, but we'd need an aero expert to prove it's worth.

Here's a picture of what I mean.

Google "BMW Air Curtain". They have been doing this for a few years, not sure on other manufactures.

So basically, this is an attempt to "blanket" the wheel arches with high pressure airflow like an invisible cover.

Air curtains are a viable way of reducing drag, thought they won't totally remove the wake from the wheel wells. If you did have some kind of wing or aero device in the wheel, it would probably still lose effectiveness vs being placed ahead of the wheel. Also, when the wheel is turned it can block the curtain and further reduce the effective flow over the aero device. If it's a downforce device, that would totally defeat its purpose.

This is all in general though. To really get into detail on what would and wouldn't work, we actually need CFD software.

I like the idea of the air curtain to clean the airflow, combined with SLR style wheels removing air from the underbody.

I agree, wings need clean air, front on, to be effective. A yawing plane doesn't fly well.

Cheers for shedding some light on the subject @kembro @Exorcet and @grannyshifter. It definitely gives the design teams something to work to.

Decided to bin the hubless wheel idea for that red car i did earlier, and switch them to normal wheels, also added a small fin on the back, and (if and when i get around to doing a front view) iv'e tried/trying to add some of @787bcgr's design elements to it.

(BTW as usual, it's not finished as yet)

You mean like this?

(Already posted this a short while ago in the other thread)

@kapnk006

When do these Voting Polls begin? (seat amount etc etc), would have thought they'd be underway by now.

When do these Voting Polls begin? ................

Our Founder and Director are working on a schedule right now. I recommended to them they execute Poll #3 ASAP. That's the Poll where we want to everyone to vote on whether or not we should consider opening up the already voted for car component and component configuration for possible revision. .................👍

We also really could use the managers' help in order to create polls as well. We need y'all to help us find the logical suggestions that fit into your category. This will ensure that the poll doesn't leave anyone out and is done in a timely manner

Also, to all the Team Members, I urge you to review the "Phased Process Plan" Spoiler in the OP if you haven't yet. It identifies what is proposed to be voted on and in what order for all of the the Voting Polls. Feel free to comment with questions or where you might see missing opportunities in the proposed voting process.............👍

@787bcgr

I definitely think it suits it better with single headlights (less cluttered), it doesn't lose anything, and it still retains the same visual impact, but cleaner. 👍

@grannyshifter.

That looks great! you've captured the Kei car proportions perfectly. And i agree, the wing looks sweet. Also like the air curtains.

I did some sketching earlier, my latest pic is inspired/influenced by a lot of different designs we've seen already, (787's, grannyshifter's, Grandea's, Titleguys, my own Giga-Kart and other members designs). The influences may not be obvious, but i think there's a general feel of those designs in it. It's still a work in progress, but i hope to incorporate the rear of that red car i did earlier (ground effects) into the design, maybe.

As can be seen, it's a strictly single seater design (awaiting poll for seat amount), due to all the ground effect tech built into the design.

The design kind of reminds me of a Miniature Super car, mini Pagani or Veveno, maybe.

Here's Poll Number 3; we want to confirm that what are current requirements are and to make sure it's still what the majority of the community wants. I'm going to tag everyone in this post in order to spread the word.

What ? :boggled:

Seriously, I've been fiddling/researching with rfactor installs/mods, kind of lost touch with GT-stuff... :dopey:

If you want my input on a community VGT, just take the LMP chassis under the black cover in the Nissan LMP thread, throw in a concept motor and some other trick-bits, and there you have the type of car I'm interested in ATM.

Because Racecar :P

Then we'll just pretty much throw away almost everything we planned out and worked on, and that will most likely not work.
