Why would he want a Camaro when it isn't even any good as a ponycar? I'd even choose the Vette over the Camaro.

I'm thinking he thought niky was serious.

Honestly, anyone that knows about cars will admit the C5 and C6 Corvettes are awesome values for the money. I myself have thought about buying one several times, 2nd hand of course.

Lets Just Come Out and Say It...

All the time people come in here and ask what kind of car is the best for a wide variety of situations. I want a car that is fun to drive, something that is cheap, something that is easy to fix, blah blah blah, tell me what is great. Well, I think we've reached a solution...

DISCUSS.

There's a reason that the answer to every question - automotive or not - on www.grassrootsmotorsports.com is Miata. If you absolutely need 4 doors and/or back seat, the fallback position is E30. If you need a back seat and cargo/towing capacity, P71. Aftert that, all else is just something you like because it's weird and unique, because there is hardly any task that can't be handled by that triumvirate of awesome cars.

The only answer is the MX-5. Only. I mean, if you really think about it, with the top down, you can do just about anything with the car. There is an infinite amount of space out there. The world is your parcel shelf!

Take it to the next level!

You seem like you want a Miata, I don't blame you. Buy one. If you don't like it you can always turn around and sell it. Your not likely to lose that much money, and it'd be worth it for the experience.

Get one with a luggage rack and you can carry a decent amount of stuff, which is the only downside I can see in having one. As far as only having one passenger, I've never had a problem with that. Then again, I am a bit of a loser with few friends! Having two relatively cheap cars is the best way to go in my opinion. A Corolla and a Miata.

👍

I've seen racks that can hold 3 tires and then the fourth is in the passengers seat.

I could probably mount three, but the front most mounts are plastic, and one's partially broken, so...

That was on my drive to Houston. If I were heading to an event, I would likely mount them at home. Though there is a secret part of me that feels cool when hauling stuff, it's the trash in me.

Well with tires like Kumho V710s, you don't want to drive at all if you can avoid it. And some events are around 100 miles from here... For closer events, that is what I'd do. Also partially why I stick to Street Tire classes so I can just mount the tires for the summer usually.

There was a guy local to me in Colorado that had a small trailer he would pull behind his Miata that carried his tires. He drove all over the state to events that way.

Yeah, lots of people in St. Louis do that. Trailers behind Miatas, Lotii, S2000s, CRXs...The CRX was taking off a set of Star Specs in place of Hoosiers. Jerk.

Yeah. I've known a few guys that have done this with Elises and MR2's as well. Pretty smart, though kind of a hassle to get a hitch on MR cars sometimes :P

That's what I've got. It holds 4 tires and has a plastic truck box on it for the tools, jack, shelter, lunch, etc. It works great.

Right now my all-around favorite car for a daily is the AE86 hatchback, which I currently have. Getting 35-38 MPG with it, great hauling capacity with the hatch, easy to work on, DIRT cheap to repair ($9 rotors, $27 calipers, the list goes on), fun to drive, seats 4. The only problem with it is their age and their Takumi tax. As badly as I want another one once my current one dies, I know that they're getting too hard to find in good condition (except in California). My second, more practical choice has been the Miata for a long time now, and I'm 95% sure it will be my next car.

I'd kind of like one, stereotypes aside, but I'm 6'2" which doesn't work out so well, especially with the top up. I also live in a place where it can snow for nearly half the year.

I'm 6'4 and own an MR-S that I drive year round. 6'2 will fit in a Miata without much trouble provided you aren't too big. Snow tires make these types are car incredibly fun and capable in the snow as well.

Even without snow tyres mine wasn't too bad last winter. Okay, traction off the line wasn't great but once you were moving it was really nice to control. Thank light weight and good balance for that.

Also, I like Duke's comment above about the three "perfect" cars. I'd be inclined to agree. If (well, when) I move to the States I'd have to try very hard not to buy a P71. And then a Miata.

I'm thinking about it again, and I've found a couple locally, but they're all priced rather high considering their age and mileage. Especially for West Michigan. It will depend on some things, namely the Celica being paid off and how much living on my own will cost, otherwise... Come summertime, I may be looking to pick up a used NA sooner than later.

I think this is what you meant to say. :sly:
