Curious to know about the whole left hand drive and right hand drive thing.

IIRC, Prologue was heavily RHD based. Someone refresh my mind and let me know what was LHD. I can only remember racing in RHD.

In GT5, I wonder if we will have the choice to go LHD or RHD based on if it was available for the car we are driving in. I know regions will default to certain ones (LHD for NA, RHD for Japan, etc), but I'm sure some cars will be one or the other. Think we will have a choice? Think we may be limited to only what our region chooses as the norm?

It should be as simple as flipping the interior, except the gauge readouts, and button readouts. I guess most of the cars wouldn't be 100% accurate anymore if that was the case.

but couldnt they just like flip the interior. its no big deal, but it would be nice for us north americans

I would rather drive a car in it's original state. It would be weird to have RHD only cars, in LHD. If they modeled a LHD mustang or camaro it should be that way. If they modeled a RHD honda integra or acura or a nissan skyline which never came in LHD, why would they have it in the game?

They wouldn't make up a LHD drive version of a race car that only existed in RHD. It would take the extra time to plan it out anyway, and scanning wouldn't work then either.

I find RHD to be very strange. I'll probably go hood view on RHD cars. I really I hope they have a Premium LHD Skyline R33. I've seen Russian ones in LHD, not sure if they were built that way though.

Being a NA and LHD, it makes little difference to me driving any RHD car in GT5P (and the TT demo) using the cockpit view. First of all the view is centered so it shouldn't affect you sense of L/R (unless you suffer from VSP Disorder or Dyslexia). As long as you keep the shifter to the side you're used to, it shouldn't be an issue.

All the popular skylines were RHD from factory.

I prefer to drive like it's from factory, but I saw Volvo C30 with RHD. I hope that don't mean that every car that have been produced in LHD and RHD version will have steering wheel on right.

What has this world come to people are moaning because the steering wheel is the wrong side.

Won't happen, they all left the factory RHD and even if there was LHD versions (there wasn't) it would still be modelled RHD. I have driven many RHD and LHD cars in real life (and sim) and you should become used to it fairly quickly.

Personally I would like the drivers seat on the side native to the model of the car, but otherwise I don't care, I don't even notice when racing (yes, I do use interior view).

They are aftermarket conversions, and somewhat popular.
The first one I know of is a gun grey R32 in Finland.
Some are done properly, and look almost standard but many seen seem poorly executed.
One issue on 89-02 Skyline GT-R is solving the clearance between downpipe and steering column. Another one is the relocation of brake system and clutch. It gets very cramped and hot on the left hand side and make it increasingly difficult to powertune the car to these absurd outputs many owners want on paper.
So from a real world technical point of view converting RHD cars to LHD may not always be realistic enough for GT5.

Oh, and we have seen short clips of right hand drive Volvo C30s. In Rome I believe it was. So there is no firm connection between the origin of the car and were the driver is seated in GT5.
Sweden, Belgium and most European countries drive on the right side of the road.

That's the point!

A just don't want to drive a FIAT group car (other than Ferrari) with RHD. For me, it's really wierd to drive a FIAT or Alfa Romeo with RHD! :yuck: :grumpy:

Maybe it sound stupid, but I think it's the right way of working. :dunce:

I still wonder why the Volvo C30 is RHD in GT5, and yes, I'm still angry about that:D

So yes, I want to have an option between RHD and LHD. But I don't think that will happen. It shouldn't be the first priority anyway.

Just go with the mcclaren f1 it's driving seat in the real car is in the center !
you must also remember that cars in japan are r.h.d and polyphony are a Japanese company

I think it should be based on were that car is must bought e.g the mini is big in england even though bmw own it and thier german so it should therefore be right hand not left as it would be in germany.

I'm in the UK so used to being in a RHD car, but switching from RHD to LHD and vice versa doesn't seem to affect my judgement in the game at all. I'd rather the cars stayed as they came out of the factory rather than having a half done "flipped" interior (which would never work well). If you're judgement is lacking in the 'wrong hand drive', just switch to the hood view. Sorted!

^ That was my experience as well.

Being in the US, and having driven LHD my whole life, I really thought that RHD cars were going to feel awkward to me in Prologue.

However I was surprised to find they felt fine. The game immerses you so well, as I'm confident GT5 will, so that you don't really notice after a minute or so.

maybe thats right...

Being British, I am used to RHD cars but LHD never affected my driving at all in GT5:P. Having said that, it is still odd that cars in GT5 seem to be randomly given RHD/LHD. The MINI for example, it's built in Britain but is LHD, the Focus ST is built in Germany(?) but is RHD.

Learn to drive rhd simple as that. I'm from america and when prologue came out I couldn't wait to learn rhd with my g25. It has been big fun and there's no difference in lap times for me with lhd and rhd. So if its a problew for you then use a different view or ignore it, or try it gor a while you may like it

It's kinda funny, I drive LHD IRL and at first the RHD cars in prologue seemed strange but I've spent so much time in RHD cars now that LHD feels wierd for the first lap or two.

All in all it doesn't really bother me which side the wheel is on in the game screen. If however, I were to take a Gxx wheel and put the shifter on my left to simulate a RHD car I would be uncomfortable. I'm keeping my shifter on my right side for now. I might experiment with switching it later.

In a RHD car is first gear away and up (like it would be if it were the same as LHD) or at your hip and up (like it would be if it were mirrored to LHD)?

Makes more sence to me if its mirrored so it's at your hip and up.

Interesting, so its the same pattern as LHD, I guess they wanna make the same transmition. I'd preffer it mirrored. I suppose that is a good thing should I ever use my shifter on the left side. It'l be accurate.
