LHD and RHD

I know this may seem a bit strange. But wouldn't be a few minor adjustments to actually allow for a preference. Cause the only animations that would needed to be swapped would be the shifter/emergency. However, with paddle shifting cars it would require only the emergency brake. Just a thought.

However, for me it doesn't matter. LHD or RHD its still exciting.

The cockpit view in Prologue was not centered. It was obvious that it wasn't.

Picture speaks louder than words:

While it may not be the same with all cars, it's essentially centered with very minor difference between left and right (in relation to the virtual POV which incidentally pretty much lines up to the centre of the screen). I spent daily for almost two years playing this game, so it's pretty much ingrained into my mind where the centre is.

Like I say if you suffer from spatial disorder which happens to affect people in so many levels, than you'll probably have harder time adjusting to minor variations. Just remember the brain's plasticity. Then you'll be okay.

I don't think the he meant centered on the steering wheel, but centered on the car which it obviously isn't. There a couple exceptions of course.

Just drive some North American rides. Dodge Duster instead of an Eclipse, SRT-4 instead of a WRX.

It's too bad it's such a pain to switch the gearshift to the other side of the chair... Though from the cockpit view I tend to get disoriented driving from the "wrong" side of the car anyways.

I want the cockpit to mimic the real life car. RHD car should be that way in the game and the same with LHD cars. I know some here in the US would prefer some of the Japanese cars to be LHD like they are here in the states, but they need to realize, the cars in the game are not imported, and most will remain in their natural reagion, and that is the way I want to play it. I will even setup my personal cockpit to reflect the real life car. If I am driving a RHD car in the game, I will have my G25 shifter on the left, and vise versa.

At the end of the day its a Japanese game and its goin to cater for the Japanese market above all others. If that means that priority is given to making cars RHD then you'll just have to live with it.
It isn't that hard. Your just sittig on the other side of the car. If you really hate it, use the bonnet cam or simply drive cars with the wheel on the other side.

Just drive the McLaren F1 all the time. MHD? Except we have no middle hand. What would you call that?

LOL true.

Its all about the F1 style seating position, though the McLaren MP4-12C has a centre oriented seating style? Or what was it they said. Ah, heck I forget now anyways.

Ya I meant the view is not centered in the car. Of course the view will be centered on the steering wheel. Who drives a car without sitting right behind the wheel??

Why in the world would I choose an SRT-4 over a WRX, lol. Sorry, the WRX is a better car by miles.

It's not a Japanese game, it's just made there. This is a worldwide game, that is made for the world.

Kazunori Yamauchi is Japanese, Polyphony Digital is Japanese, Kaz Hirai is Japanese, Sony is Japanese. Although GT is the most popular in Europe, Japan has a little protection here. Where will the special blue bundle be sold? Where has the most exciting reveals been made? Where from does the most often automotive partners come from? J.A.P.A.N. :)

LOL

GT5 is also one of the rare great japanese video games that will be released this year....japanese gaming industry really is in trouble, polyphony is the exception...

The first car I drove was left-hand drive; yet in my country we drive on the left. It's fairly simple to get used to where the wheels are relative to where you're sitting. It's the same process as getting used to the width of an unfamiliar car; just aim for imperfections in the road surface and you'll soon get a feel for where the wheels are.

On a race circuit it's even easier, just try brushing the curbs.
That said, it'd be cool if you could choose the cockpit orientation for the appropriate cars.

What's really strange, though, is when I first got a G25 and mounted the shifter to my left, I kept reaching for gears with my right hand (because my previous wheel had the sequential shifter on the right) - I never did this in a real car! In fact, it'd probably be the other way around; reaching into the door for the gearstick in a LHD car! :dopey:

The implications of the seat being on the other side are probably real enough, though; it'll certainly take a lap or two to get used to it. But this is the case in real life. The original GT40 was an odd one; seat on the right, and gearstick to the right as well! Old Formula-1 cars varied the shifter location from year to year according to various things - only occasionally was this driver-preference... fortunately, that will always be set to our own preference in a game! :P

I suppose the biggest factor is weather the car manufacturer provides a lhd or rhd car for polyphony to model.

The McLaren F1 is LHD.

I've heard (as have many people I see... ;)) that the McLaren F1 is RHD (it being a British car/company), but the driving position is as if the car was 'MHD'. Correct me if I'm wrong, feel free to, since I cba to look on Wikipedia.. :P

Which hand do you shift with? That should be your answer.
The car is LHD.

dave_sz has it right - you may sit in the middle, but the gear lever is to your right, making it left-hand drive.

Many race cars are also left-hand drive, regardless of origin. WRC - predominantly based around British factories - and BTCC - entirely based on UK-market cars on UK circuits - both use left-hand drive cars and have almost exclusively throughout their entire history.

Too True.. :P Although it's quite interesting how most people (pretty much myself) assume that because of which country a car comes from, that is which side the car will drive.

It's a classic piece of car trivia. People who know nothing about cars have a 50:50 chance and people who know stuff about cars have a much lower chance because they know you sit in the middle. You have to know the F1 is LHD to know that it's LHD

I dislike you for making me look such a fool ;)

Jk. But I never knew that.. although I'm quite young,.. (excuses )..

You only need to transform the interior of the car and switch the dashboard model. In Live for Speed devs just flip horizontal whole car inside.

Doing this in GT5 will not be hard especialy that inside of the car after flip looks nice too:

Lotus for example.

BMW from outside and RHD looks nice too. No problem to flip for me.

Problem you face then is that your dials are now anticlockwise.

And you're doing SE.

Wow, too true.

Different shifting hands will make it a little more complicated.

And simply flipping it will make the stereo layout and a whole lot of things backwards.

Ok agree. Too late to change that. Maybe GT6. Lotus logo and dials in this car can be changed with few minutes by PD crew.
