License test S8: Pure fantasy!

What the hell were they thinking when they included that farcical excuse for a license test?

It's a joke! If the real world Toyota GT-One race car handled like the simulation one does, then Toyota wouldn't have even allowed a test dummy to 'drive' it, let a lone a person. I can easily put the 'stock' TVR speed 12 around the Cote d'Azur track in way less time than the license test requires, but when it comes to the GT-One it's nigh on impossible! In fact, it's very nearly laughable! There's no way that it's a realistic simulation of the car, it's like driving on an ice-rink with glass tyre's.

I've seen the GT-One's race at Le Men's in the flesh, so I know they can take corners a lot faster than 60kph without sliding. Not in this license test they don't, the tyre's are crap and there doesn't seem to be any downforce at all!

Yes the car isn't set up right for this track. It makes the test harder no doubt
The worst part is the gear set up. Use manual transmision and don't use first gear.
wait untill you are out of the turns befor you open it up all the way. This is the first S
license I got and my time was better than the demonstration time. It took me an hour
to get this one. The GT-40 in S-2 is much the same deal (bad set up) it makes the car
seem really bad. I got the GT-40 and did a set up on it and got a time 2 seconds faster
than the Demonstration time on that track. So don't judge the cars by the license tests.
If you can make a good time with a badly set up car you will do much better with the
cars adjusted correctly. All my 288 gold times are better than Demonstration times. It
can be done.

It can even be done in 3rd gear all the way (and I mean all the way). I was surprised when I did it. I only changed up to 4th ni the final straight and got gold.

You can learn to drive the track easier also with no gear changes.

Not set up right is an understatement! :)

I spent four hours on that bloody S-8 test and couldn't get any closer to the alloted time than 1.7 secs. I believe the best I've done upto yet is 1:36.735 and you need <1:35.000, I just can't seem to shave the last little bit of time away. It's frustrating too, this is the only test I need to complete all the licenses.

It's 0530 here now and i'm just off to bed! That tells you how much I've been tried to pass this final test.

Oh well, there's alway's tomorrow! :ill:

yea had a big problem with S-8, then i read that u dont ever need to shift below 3rd, if ur always in 3rd or higher ull barely spin out.

I managed to do the MX-5 and the Viper! Both only took about three attempts. That S-8 though, it's really getting to me! I've managed to get the time down to 1:35.274, it's just the final .274 I need to knock off now!

There is one major problem though! I went out and got GT4 today, for the bargin price of £15 and am now doing the license test's in that, inbetween a bit of racing.

Glutton for punishment, moi?

I can get gold every time , with auto too. All you have to do is use the gas sparingly and don't go nuts This time is far from impossible. In gt4 there is a much harder mission. Mission 34 u may have seen , much harder. Either way best of luck to you.

Use manual transmision and don't use first gear.

^ The only advice I'd give too ^ (especially the first gear bit... avoid like the plague!) :yuck:

It's possible in auto, but it's so much hassle to control the gear shifts, you might as well learn to use manual... it is essential for later GT life anyway 👍

I was struggling to bronze this test before going manual, but after golding some of the more basic tests first, and going manual, it was not too hard...

This wasn't to hard to bronze, it was the GT40 that almost killed me. I had a Jack Nicholson "joker" smile when I finally passed that!

man i got through it. took 30 minutes. it cant take the corners well because the settings arent set up like the le mans. the thing just needs to have its supsension settings changed. but i always make all my car settings for drifting.
