Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

"This shape is becoming too complex; You cannot add any more to it."

I want to kill whoever made that message, because it's standing right between me and any ideas I have. I was making a tree. A TREE, and it's "too complex". And yet I view other's levels and they've got robotic things and volcanoes and an entire level of R-Type. And I can't even have A TREE...

Well, after a month of no play (I stopped during those annoying server issues), I loaded up LBP. And unless something happens tomorrow, I won't be playing it again.

I joined several different custom levels in hopes of playing with at least 1 other person. I only got one person out of the many maps I joined. I then joined several story levels trying to play with people. Zilch.

I bought this game to play levels with people, not by myself. If it's going to work that I can only play with 1 person out of every 12 maps I try to play, I may just throw this game back on the shelf and go ahead and rent Madden '09.

I feel your pain. I gave in and returned the game having the same issues as you. If you can con a mate or 2 to get the game that could be your saving grace from returning the game.

Most of my mates don't have PS3s (nearly all of them have X360s though; that's where we all play together), and the few that do have zero interest in LBP. There's only guy I could convince, but he's been too busy with his car & work.

Well it seems the Trophies are removed form the list. I checked my list again and they weren't there.
You can still see them, or at least I could last night, if you compare trophies with a friend.

It seems I have a slight problem though, I made the level too hard for myself to beat! :P :ouch:

From,
Chris.
Welcome to the fun. I play test every step of the way to ensure each individual section can be passed.

One thing to look at is checkpoints. Do you have any? Do you have them placed for maximum effect? If one section is hard then the checkpoint just before it should be a double-life checkpoint.

Graaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Is your tree glued to anything? If so it is seeing it as part of your bigger object.

If I could see it I could help more. Online co-op create cannot come fast enough.

Currently the only way to do this would be to either play it with a friend, but then they can't see all your tools, or publish it with copying allowed, then have a friend copy it and look at it on their system.

Um, are making sure to select Play Online? Also, you can see how many people are currently playing the level by looking at the tiny number that pops up above it when you are scrolling through them.

Another thing is if you have a very high connection then the matchmaking will make you host, which means you have to wait for others to join you. Do not go past the little spinning sign that dings at the beginning of levels, as that closes the level to other players. When people join you they may run past this, not knowing you are waiting for more people, so you need to send them a message asking them to wait immediately, or restart when they hit the sign so that you both will restart and wait for others to join.

For me the wait has never been any different than a screen that says it is matchmaking or sitting in a lobby. The difference is that it loads you into a level and then you wait for the matchmaking to happen. Don't expect that when you load a level that three other people did it at the exact same time as you and everyone just pops in at once.

The only games I have seen that load you straight into a multiplayer game with no wait of any kind (like a quickplay option), including finding a server that you can get into or sitting in a lobby, will put you in the middle of an already active game. That won't work for LBP. Imagine walking past a checkpoint and suddenly another player pops out.

And this just seems odd to me because I have to log off the network when I am building a level or I will get multiple invites.

Odd you have no PS3 friends that play LBP when I look around this thread and see plenty of fans of the game. I have added GTPers specifically for LBP play.

Of course I've done this.

This may be the issue then, as that 1 person was joining my game, and I normally have a very good connection to any game I play, regardless if its the PS3 or my Xbox 360.

Call it what you want. I only have 2 friends & the only one I know for certain is Omnis. I do not have any other invites that I know of, and if I have gotten them, it's probably because I never checked them, and they went away. A week after LBP's release (Late October) til' around now, my PS3 has only been used as a DVD player. I have been too consumed Gears 2, MC:LA, World At War, & lately, Ace Combat 6.

Just checking. You know, ask the dumb questions first.

Yeah, give it a minute and others will join if it is a popular level. I personally think they need a lobby system so that when you are trying to get a 4-player game going some idiot doesn't close the level on you.

Call it what you want. I only have 2 friends & the only one I know for certain is Omnis. I do not have any other invites that I know of, and if I have gotten them, it's probably because I never checked them, and they went away. The invites I am talking about are the in-game invites asking you to join them. If you accept it will take you to them. You can also request to join others.

But if you are looking to play with others that like a specific game add people who are talking about it to your friends list. Most GTPers will not turn down a friend request from other GTPers (I know I haven't). I have played with D-N, Omnis, Dead Poetic, Appie, Blake, and attempted to with Pako, but the connection was being quirky. I have also played with complete strangers and even mixed company of friends and strangers.

And if you play with a stranger but you liked them they should show up in your Players Met list on your Friends List so you can add them to your friends list and play with them again later.

I have been too consumed Gears 2, MC:LA, World At War, & lately, Ace Combat 6.
Yeah, the glut of games is killing me too. I have had trouble finding time to play everything I want. I still have yet to even rent some first year stuff, like Lego: Star Wars or The Orange Box.

LBP Premium Level Packs + Costume Packs (Metal Gear Solid Edition) - on the PS Store 12/23
Posted by Mark Valledor // Marketing Manager, SCEA

Just when you thought we were done with the Holiday surprises (Free Santa, Festive Level Pack, LBC1 winners, etc, etc) we have one more announcement up our sleeve…and it’s a dozy. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been biting our tongues, and finally we can reveal our latest offering (originally ‘somewhat’ announced at this years TGS) – Metal Gear Solid packs - Available 12/23 on the PlayStation Store.

3119251516_f7b086bd81_m.jpg
3119251536_59c662d80e_m.jpg

Metal Gear Solid Premium Costume Pack
You’ve seen Solid Snake, but have you seen the rest of the cast? (well, ok…maybe you have… ) Meryl Silverburgh, Screaming Mantis & Raiden each have their own costumes from the MGS world. Get all 4 characters for the price of 3 at $5.99 on the PS Store, or pick your favorite and buy it individually for $1.99.

Metal Gear Solid Premium Level Pack
Now that you know about our Festive Level Pack, which fills your Pop-it tool with a ton of “Create” materials, objects and stickers, our Premium Level Packs introduce that and a whole lot more. So without further adeu…lets talk about what’s inside the MGS Level Pack (and this time we mean “Level” pack…)

First off, you’ll get a new Sackboy costume… the Gurlokovich Soldier.

3118423871_8e3952f3e2.jpg

Plus tons of new stickers (72), materials (12), decorations (10), and objects (18).

3118426347_fe31faa144_t.jpg
3119254196_bec0f02c2b_t.jpg

3119254206_42167678f7_t.jpg
3118426365_1178b1091a_t.jpg

The objects are especially cool, why you ask…well, in addition to these ‘create’ materials, our Premium Level Packs include new Story Levels and they’re filled these new objects. That’s because, Media Molecule teamed with Konami to create 5 new Story Levels and 1 new Challenge Level for you to enjoy.

3118423695_018f01f839_m.jpg
3118423731_b602775598_m.jpg

Now we couldn’t just build a level using the basic tools above, we need music, new sound effects, and new elements to provide a true MGS experience. So you’re getting these in the Level Pack, as well:

1 new background music track
3 new interactive music tracks
1 new Metal Gear Solid themed ‘sound object’
New Plasma Ball ‘danger element’
New Laser Sight ‘gadget’
New functioning Searchlight lamp – for those special ‘exclamation mark’ moments
…and finally, the piece de resistance…THE PAINTINATOR (and Paint Switch)

3119251616_1fa41d7af5_m.jpg
3118423765_4fe336ec5d_m.jpg

Now, not only will you be able to run, jump, push, pull, swing, etc, etc in LBP, but now you’ll be able to splatter anything that comes between you and the end of any level. Once you equip the Paintinator, you can send sacksized paintballs flying by mashing on the R1 button and using the right stick to aim. Few things about flying paintballs, when Sackboys are hit with them, it feels like a very weak slap. You can also shoot ‘Brains’ from a safe distance and progress thru levels much easier. In addition to the Paintinator, we’re introducing a Paint Switch, so you can attach it to any object and set it to destruct after being splattered with enough paint. Here’s a video to show you the Metal Gear Solid Level Pack in action…

Add to all that, there are 12 new Trophies to unlock (and if you pay attention to the story at all, we’re not a big fan of Trophy Levels).

So now you see why we’ve been biting our tongue on this announcement. Tons of new gameplay, tons of new game-changing objects, and tons of create materials…all for just $5.99 (shesh…did that just sound like an infomercial?). We absolutely can’t wait to see what the community does with this pack and the new types of levels this will bring to the Share Planet.

And wait…there’s more…
So, here’s one of the coolest things about this pack…you guys know LBP is all about PLAY, CREATE & SHARE – well, you’ll be glad to know that this Level Pack holds true to that. For those who buy the Premium Level Pack, you get everything above (and hopefully a lot of fun in-between). If you don’t buy it, you’ll still be able to enjoy the MGS pack goodness. Here’s how:

Non-MGS Level Pack owners can PLAY the MGS Story Levels by joining a “host” who owns the pack and play the levels online together. Now you won’t be able to keep any objects, but you can have tons of fun just PLAYing.
MGS Level Pack owners will be able to CREATE levels with any of these items (including the Paintinator) and SHARE them online for everyone to play.
Again, we’re very excited to present this MGS Level Pack to you as a taste of how LBP can and will continue to evolve over time. With the support of our community, whether it’s creating new and awesome levels on the Share Planet or buying our Costumes and Level Packs, we’ll continue to provide more LBP goodness down the road in 2009.

So check back on the PS Store on 12/23 and treat yourself to a present this holiday season

Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year

!

Reventón, I'm sure it's largely a matter of taste, but in addition to what FK already covered, I find that most people prefer not to play online with strangers, and thus when they chose to play a level and they are not with friends, they likely select the option that says "On my Own".

In addition, unlike the story levels, most community levels are not being played by a hundred people at the same time, so if you don't have any or make any friends who play LBP, then your best bet is to stick with the story levels at first. Then after playing with a group that you like, you might ask them to join you in the community levels as well... or at the very least, like FK said, ask them to add you to their friends list for a future time.

Personally speaking, I have had the most fun playing LBP, not with strangers online, but with friends in the same room. Not only can you communicate so much better in person, thus making it both fun and easy to either help each other or torment each other, or just laugh.

Granted I've had some fun games with those on my friends list, and with many of the people FK mentioned, even wild man Pako. ;)

I also have a great time playing on my own, as most of the time with multiplayer, especially if the other person has a bad connection, or doesn't communicate at all, it can make the game a lot less fun in a hurry. :indiff:

I've even come up with my own challenges for single player. The latest has been a time trial mode, where we use a stop watch and see who can get through the most dificult levels the fastest. It's been a blast, and completely changes the strategy and approach one must take in levels you are used to doing a different way. It has added even more replay value to levels we are all very familiar with now.

The other thing you can do is to play your friend's levels, and try and beat their own scores. :D

So if you are really interested in playing LBP more, there are a lot of options and choices you can make in terms of gameplay, including online multiplayer. I just wouldn't count on someone knocking on your online door to see if you want to play. You'll like have to invite people to add you and join you in games in order to build up your pool of friends in LBP. If you just asked, I'm sure you could find at least a dozen or so people who participate in this thread to join you in some games... but you have to ask. We aren't mind readers. ;)

So i popped in my LBP Disc and got a update notification for it. Anyone here knows what the update is about?

From www.ps3fanboy.com

PS3Fanboy
LittleBigPlanet 1.07 patch adds store, better search functionality
What is this, October? We thought we were done with LittleBigPlanet news after the game's release, but it seems the game just won't stop growing. While this patch news is nothing compared to the reveal of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid pack, it's still pretty snazzy. LittleBigPlanet is now at version 1.07 and the patch is pretty hefty (a whopping 67MB).

The update adds a new section to the LittleBigPlanet section of the game: the LittleBigStore. Here you can see all the costumes and packs that are currently for sale and purchase them. Bought a costume and don't want to search through your Popit menu for it? Simply select it in the in-game store and you'll automagically put it on. Pretty handy. Selecting a pack will "award" you with the items, just like at the end of a tutorial level, so you can see exactly what it contains.

The second big addition in version 1.07 is a revamp of the level search screen. You can now view the highest rated levels, the most hearted levels, the newest levels and the busiest levels. You can also search for levels via a text string, or via tags. Hopefully this will make finding awesome levels a lot easier.

Hope it helps 👍

Nice. So, not only are we getting ame changing mechanics but major game improving fixes.

Why would you ever play that completely awful level from the beta? :P

Edit: @ FK, Yes, I've got plenty of checkpoints, and a double life checkpoint before the wheel of death.

Also, for those playing my new level (Wall's Puzzle Monster, although the only thing puzzling is how it's so bad). If you find the prize area, there is a two-digit code needed to open it up, which I'd hope you'd figure out pretty easily, although if you can't I've got the code posted up at my site.

From,
Chris.

Oh my god, just when I was feeling like putting LBP back in the system... This MGS pack is awesome news. I'm so happy. I just hope the paintinator works with the jetpack.

Is your tree glued to anything? If so it is seeing it as part of your bigger object.

No. There was nothing at all in the level. I made a tall rectangle of purple glass and used the corner editor to stretch it into branches. I'd made three branches when it declared the shape was getting too complex...

Why don't you make separate branches and glue them together?

Making a tree - A TREE - shouldn't send it into a fliddy meltdown.

I was cogitating earlier today. I'd be willing to bet it's impossible to create a level like... The Dancer's Court from the game in Create mode.

Someone asked that on the PlayStation Blog and since it was a Sony rep, not an MM rep, he said he wasn't sure.

I have a feeling that it will work very much like the jetpack, in that you pick it up and drop it and so it may not. If it does though an open level with Paintinators and jet packs could be all you need for an awesome multiplayer game.

A purple glass tree? It was probably trying to stop you from making a mistake. Try it with some green sponge.

But I have rarely used the corner editing tool, and then it was to only straighten out edges. Outside of that I think it is best for just making pointy bits.

I would love to sit and watch you attempting to make levels. I imagine this huge grand scheme getting destroyed when the game stops you at making a tree.

I know complex items can be created, as I've done it. You've seen it. But I tend to start with a large object and cut it down. My volcano was just a giant stone triangle, then I cut away the crater and parts that I wanted to be on fire. I set them on fire and then placed them back.

And my volcano god is only four pieces: Body, arm, club, head top. Two motors, connect the arm and head top to the main body and the club is glued to the arm. Add an emitter, some switches, glue explosives to the inside, and tada!

That sounds a lot easier than it was. On second thought, ignore me. Too much effort was involved for me to make it sound simple.

I was cogitating earlier today. I'd be willing to bet it's impossible to create a level like... The Dancer's Court from the game in Create mode.
Well, user created levels are limited to, I believe they said, 5MB, and when I look at their levels I can see the thermometer easily maxed out a couple of times over.

Of course, sometimes I think I see something that will be complex and it barely moves the thermometer while apparently simple things shoot it up. Their algorithms are using some kind of fuzzy math that I don't understand.

To each his own, then. I have no problem playing with anyone, either way. :)
I also have a great time playing on my own, as most of the time with multiplayer, especially if the other person has a bad connection, or doesn't communicate at all, it can make the game a lot less fun in a hurry. :indiff:
I'm used to zero communication. As long as I can see the guy attempting what I know is the point, I don't care, just so long as I'm having fun.
I've even come up with my own challenges for single player. The latest has been a time trial mode, where we use a stop watch and see who can get through the most dificult levels the fastest. It has added even more replay value to levels we are all very familiar with now.
Then it appears we have bought this game for different reasons. I bought it for multiplayer, pure & simple. To kick back with no serious objective in sight, and to just play a game with people online. The commercials themselves, tout playing with people on levels as one of its key features.

So if you are really interested in playing LBP more, there are a lot of options and choices you can make in terms of gameplay, including online multiplayer. I don't count on anyone to come knocking, but it's obvious this game has changed. As I said, in the beginning (before the issues that drove me away), I had no problem finding people when I could. Every time I joined a level, I nearly always got, "Joining [insert here]'s game". And the people were cool with it. Now, I have to be the one to wait for anyone, and I would rather not see how long it takes to get 4 people in the room at once and finally be able to play a level.

Regarding people here, I accept any requests, but I don't go around asking & sending invites to everyone. I'm simply not on enough to play with everyone here, thus, I don't feel the need to be wasting anyone's space on a list for a person who doesn't actively play their games. I'm already doing this myself on Live for people who are no longer online, many of them on this forum.

Reventón;3249461
Times have changed then. During the time in the past, I found everyone was willing to play with strangers. And I had a lot of fun meeting these folks.
They still are, but perhaps not as quickly or as easily as you want.

Reventón;3249461
Again, times changed. While I did find a lot of people mainly on the story levels, I also found many in the community levels.
Sure, but that's when there were very few community levels, let alone quality ones. Now there are already well over 200,000 published levels. Again, it's not hard to find the popular levels though... but you have to at least make some sort of attempt to find and play them.

The number of story levels never changed, so the number of players playing them has largely remained the same.

Reventón;3249461
I'm used to zero communication. As long as I can see the guy attempting what I know is the point, I don't care, just so long as I'm having fun.
I'm curious though. Why is multiplayer with stangers so important then? There are very few levels that even require co-op, and many are designed specifically with single player in mind. If you aren't doing it to socialize with online players (zero communication and with people you don't know), then again, why is this such a make or break issue for you? :odd:

Reventón;3249461

Yes, and you can any time you like. It just sounds like you don't want to make an effort to find them, or any effort that might be required is too much of an inconvenience for you. I'm trying to offer some very easy solutions, but it sounds like you've already made up your mind.

Well if you ever change your mind, feel free to join the fun. Several of us here get together on ocassions, and do just what you say you like to do, "kick back with no serious objective in sight, and to just play a game online"... and although you apparently have no interest in it, we also communicate with each other while we are playing, and based on the laughter tht breaks out, we usually have a great time. 👍

A purple glass tree? It was probably trying to stop you from making a mistake. Try it with some green sponge.

It was my "Threshold" level ;)

I would love to sit and watch you attempting to make levels. I imagine this huge grand scheme getting destroyed when the game stops you at making a tree.

I could post a video, but then I'd have to give myself a 270pt Infraction for language.

Of course, sometimes I think I see something that will be complex and it barely moves the thermometer while apparently simple things shoot it up. Their algorithms are using some kind of fuzzy math that I don't understand.

Yeah, like "IF User = Making a Tree THEN Kill them".

Case in point, just a few minutes ago I just got through having fun playing with Scaff and some stranger in the Oni Volcanoe level... even enjoyed slapping his Santa around with my SackHellBoy.... and in return he covered me from head to toe with candy canes.... :sly:

BTW: Despite being several thousands of miles away and three players, there was no lag at all. 👍

Thanks for the game Scaff, and sorry I had to run... but the young natives were getting restless for a dose of Polar Express in 1080p, as I suspect you heard over the my mic, so I had to relinquish the PS3. :)

I'm sorry, but you think I haven't done that? I have, good sir. I spent 30 minutes trying to find people. My results did not satisfy me. I have made the effort.

I'm curious though. Why is multiplayer with stangers so important then? There are very few levels that even require co-op, and many are designed specifically with single player in mind. If you aren't doing it to socialize with online players (zero communication and with people you don't know), then again, why is this such a make or break issue for you? :odd:
Because it's fun to play with people? I never said I didn't want any communication, I said I'm used to it. Big difference, buddy. I'll talk to anyone if they start asking me questions, but I'm not going to talk to people on this game like I talk to people on Call of Duty. As you said, there's really no co-op levels, so there's no need to really say anything unless someone wants a friendly chat, which is something I'll gladly be a part of.

Yes, and you can any time you like. It just sounds like you don't want to make an effort to find them, or any effort that might be required is too much of an inconvenience for you. I'm trying to offer some very easy solutions, but it sounds like you've already made up your mind.
Read above. I have made the effort. I joined many, many games, community & story, in hopes of just playing with people for fun. I agree with FoolKiller's idea that a lobby system actually wouldn't be a terrible idea for a quick match.
Read my post. I'm use to no communication, I never said I have zero interest in it. This game, as I just said, doesn't need any team strategy. However, if someone wants to chat, I will chat with them because that increases my enjoyment for the game. But, I can live without it if my fellow players don't want to say anything to me. TBQH, I'm perfectly content with just playing with 3 other guys and watching us attempt some of the tougher levels in this game.

Play the three and four player co-op challenges in The Wilderness levels and tell me that.

Heck, even the two-player challenge in The Serpent Shrine had D-N and myself having to time it just right and without voice chat I don't think we would have done it.

Something I just found: Image Exporting.

I think they just added it in the update, but it's pretty cool. It exports the images to the PS3's HDD.

Attached is a picture I uploaded from my PS3

That's great to hear. How do you do it, and are you limited to 320x180 sized shots like the pic you just posted, or did you select the size yourself?

Thanks to you to, and it s was amazing the sheer lack of lag involved.

Particularly when you consider that the third person was a friend who was over and using a spare account on my PS3!!

Sorry that I couldn't hear you properly, the volume was fine but it was coming across all garbled, got to the bottom of the problem however as I had the same issue later on and resetting the router seemed to fix it (no idea why but it did).

Glad you liked the candy canes, it is Christmas after all; and your Hellboy costume is just amazing, we both loved that.

👍

And I so can't wait until next week and the MGS stuff, that's my Christmsa present to myself sorted out.

Regards

Scaff

As you could probably tell, that post came from my PS3, so I wasn't wanting to type much with the controller.

Anyway, to export the Images, find the image you want (In the "My Pictures" section of the Sticker menu), press square and then select the button that says "Export image to HDD"

As far as I can tell, it only lets you save them in that size, but that picture was taken at a very zoomed out area, and you'll get better pictures the closer you get.

Chris.

Well it's a start, but I am still hoping games will come out that will allow you to take full resolution screenshots of the game and save those pics to the HDD. I know Sony added the support for that feature a long time ago, but no one seems to be implimenting it into their games... including Sony. :odd:

BTW: I meant to ask, what community level was that shot taken from in LBP?

It's something to do with a photobooth, I may have hearted it, but I'm unsure.

It's got different areas to get pictures taken automatically, but that particular one was taken using the game's built in camera.

My Santa's Helper level is up.

It is also my first level that won't result in hundreds of thousands of points.
