Little Things You Love about GT7?

The headlights, this game has to have the best low light headlight visuals of any game ever. Instead of what other games do which is just light up an area in front of the car that follows the track around and is completely even and bright, GT7 seems to actually model the projection and light dissipation correctly, very very convincing. The fact it also casts shadows off other cars also looks amazing and is something I don't think I've seen other games do this well if at all.

Very much this. Such a small thing that if it weren't there, I'm sure not many would care, but PD has been nailing headlights since at least GT5.

As for my favorite little things, while it may get old for some, I enjoy how animated the game is.

The cafe sequences, that each dealership has its own unique "car purchased" scenes (including winning license cars as another user said, unsure if driving missions do this too), all the GT Auto and garage screens, and of course the GT World map.

They could've so easily given us a very plain navigation experience like most racing games (including GT6 and Sport) and I'm sure it would've been fine, but the added flair here is really nice. Being on PS4, you of course pay for it in the form of added load times, but as most of us transition to PS5 this won't be an issue really.

Other than that, I like the amount of detail in the tunings screen. I also really like that PD uses the actual name of the engine for each car's "Engine Model" as opposed to simply "Mitsubishi V6" or something.

Frankly a lot more that I'll save for the sake of brevity. 😂

I hope this entire thread shows PD that the extra attention they give to little things always pays off and is appreciated by the community.

I love the day/night cycles on the map. Just a really delightful and not necessary but they did it anyway! 🤗
I saw this in the track areas, look in the custom race area scroll down a bit and you will see time controls this is how they can advance time faster during a race by setting the time controls.

Yeah when I first heard that I couldn't help but smile, such a small but nice addition. I think I held on that screen longer just to soak it in.

One other little feature I'm getting a good kick out of Music Replay. It's so unnecessary but I totally dig it. It's a fun little way to soak in that hard-earned win after the race.

As far as small details it's gotta be the way the sunlight bounces off wet surfaces. The reflections and lighting look so good. They did a killer job with the lighting in this game, even on base PS4.
For sure. When I did the Bathurst W700 race, the sheen on the track surface is crazy. I was thinking rain had fallen or it’s was the cooling of the track. Either way, PD have supremely stepped up/maximised the PS4(though, I was seeing some frame choppiness). I thank them for it.

I mean the world map/nav the isometric view it’s just nice it happens

The first GT game where I haven’t noticed aliasing or flickering shadows whilst racing.

The little pop up notifications you get of the car you just passed.

Bump Drafting (I think that’s what they call it, I’m not American or an Oval guy).
But yeah Bump Drafting works. i.e you can work in tandem with another car if you need to catch the pack by staying in the lead cars slipstream.

Just be careful on how much you bump, too hard and you lose the clean race bonus, or worse in a daily race I have seen a 3 sec penalty for ramming...yes in GT7

On the Special S track, the one with the two super long straights, I'd passed the 1st placed cpu driver on the back straight by slipstreaming him and had a 1sec lead. I then noticed the cpu was drafting me back so I changed lanes and it kept changing lanes to stay behind me to draft and I barely won with a gap of 0.080.
Never seen an A.I driver do that before. Very cool.
Mate this was evident in a particular race onSpecial stage route X in GT Sport too.
When I passed the leader, he would come into my slipstream to gain on me. I would swerve from left to right through that long straight & the AI would repeatedly do the same thing. It was a real sweet thing to notice as I personally would want competitive AIs to make the races fun.

I don't really know where to begin. Ignoring my issues with the amount of content and the game economy, everything's kinda perfect to me. The driving, the sounds, the menus (ok maybe not perfect but they're charming if flawed), I even don't hate the little dialogues (except for Sarah telling me to take a deep breath, which is more infuriating than missing gold).

Here's something more specific. The way the headlights are rendered. Small, I know, but hey this thread is about the "little things". The headlights just look so... real. Coming from Forza, I haven't seen anything quite like it. I think it sticks with me so much because it was the first thing I noticed that really made the cars feel so realistic to me.

I like the difference between racing on the Nordschleife and racing on the full combined 24h circuit. The 24 circuit has all the TV equipment, way more fans and crowds, campsites, can even hear music coming from various fan areas around the track. Circuit itself has more rubber down on the racing line. Lovely touches.

Oh man, there are sooo many small and big things that I really like about GT7 and that made me sit slightly wet in front of the monitor.

It's hard for me to remember everything and put it in a list.
Where do I start..

The routes:
  • almost all routes look so incredibly good
  • the changing times of the day that bring an incredible atmosphere to the track in the race, be it the falling evening on many tracks when e.g. night falls in Australia and you can see some kind of festival behind the track.
  • The Nordschleife at night with its guests/spectators and parties at the side of the track like in a real 24-hour race.Or Trial Mountain when the evening comes, the lights in the tunnel are on ectr... whoa what a show.
  • the weather how the hell is that possible it's as atmospheric as e.g. at the LeMans mission with the extreme rain and even thunderstorms. Headphones on, the room darkened, volume up, cockpit view activated, preferably still tired and then this test, at night in the lousy storm what you can imagine thundering over the track with 300 km/h.
  • some engine/turbocharger compressor and wastegate noises. The hot, slightly squeaking noises like real racing cars make noise that nobody on the street would accept in their production car.Or the Querfugen in Tokyo...really bold as they sometimes hit the car.
  • then the cafe...some missions.. OK shouldn't have been, but big chapters where the JDM legends or the outstanding American muscle cars introduce this section in a very cool video editing. What a show- what drama- what joy. And the final video with the congratulations and its atmosphere, also one of the slightly teary-eyed moments.

I just like the fact you can finally offset the wheels, make the tires wider and change the location of the number plate, that's like a first for a GT game. Also it's hilarious how they allowed you to fit 20 inch rims on the old camaro. I don't remember anything near that in GT Sport.

The detail of the little things like the pilot in the camera copter, he is almost recognizable... 17f87f026e178-3fa315B375F96579043.7F0DCD06C091CCF5_message_421696788698302_1647253080852.jpg

Well...

  • Race and carbon ceramic brakes taking part of the first lap to start working optimally.
  • AI cars caught out on the wrong tyres during sudden downpours and causing pile-ups at Mr Panorama and High Speed Ring.
  • Trackside photographers having 3 different tabards: track, pit lane & official - this is something you'll see at FIA WEC, ELMS, Le Mans and Formula E.
  • Random wildlife around tracks.
  • Custom races.
  • Certain cars needing invites like in real life.
  • Legendary dealership prices being true to life.
  • Stella from the Cafe even though she only shows up once.

The occasional ‘pop’ from the R32 GTR in a particular state of tune (~699PP with standard bolt-ons but midrange turbo) when downshifting and getting on the brakes or shortshifting at a certain RPM.

This is not to be confused with the gurgle and crackle of antilag. It’s a very different sound, and doesn’t happen all the time. I’m yet to capture it in a nighttime replay to confirm whether it bangs a flame out of the back 😁

For me it's a tiny little thing, and it's the metallic pinging you get from a cooling exhaust that you can hear after the results of a race.

A stupidly tiny detail, but it's one of my favorite sounds in reality and it being in GT7 just makes me smile every time I hear it.
Bro... after my first race I heard that noise and I was thinking "what the hell is wrong with the sound on this screen" and then I recognized what it was and immediately texted a friend that used to play GT back in the day to buy the game. Honestly little details like that, even stupidly minute make me fall in love with games despite their flaws.
