Livery Editor

I would love livery editor in GT5.
But, unlike Forza 2, it would be great to create liveries in race cars too. The reason its simple: remember, for example, the Audi A4 DTM Red Bull in GT4? If you could create liveries in race cars it would be possible to replicate all the other DTM championship Audis. Or if you have a V8 supercar championship Ford Falcon you could create all the others. Same goes for Holden Commodore. With just 2 cars it would be possible to replicate all the V8 championship cars.
I suck at painting but theres a lot of people out there who make wonderful liveries and i would buy it.

You couldn't modify race car liveries in Forza? Maybe it was something to do with licensing.

I think a race modification could come with say three options, two variants on a race livery and a virgin carbon fibre one!

All that stuff matters ZERO to me,all I want is detailed tuning adjustments and more detail to sounds of cars.

Some sort of vinyl editor like Forza 2 has would be great but I just dont see it happening for GT5. More than likely we will all be driving around online with same stock color cars. As an example we will all be driving the same red Mustang Cobra R SVT since that was the only stock color option.
But even if it doesnt have this I will be buying GT5.

I would be really happy with pre-defined racing modifications like in GT1/2...

To be fair the cars I have seen in Forza are 100 times better than the racing modifications you could get in GT1 and GT2. and also if they do that. how much longer will it take for GT to be released if PD have to skin all the cars they have in gt5.

I don't think I personally require a livery editor... but those racing modifications available in GT1 and GT2 would be a nice addition to GT5.

Two very excellent posts. I'd mentioned a few times how nice it would be if GT5 had a serious race mod system which would produce everything from a standard but beefed up chassis like a super tuner car, all the way to body widening for DTM and Super GT racing. An alternative would be to give us unpainted race cars we could apply our liveries to. Personally, I'd like to have both, so that we could create our own tuner cars, and the wide bodied blank race cars. This would give Polyphony the opportunity to put the "50 Skylines" argument down, give us a great selection of liveries, but allow us to create as many race and tuner cars as we want, and each one with our own unique identities.

And by the way, thanksfor pointing out that we could see the results with a click on a number, I was unaware of that.

Now, about those custom racing helmets and suits... ;)

Isn't that going a bit too far with custom helmets and racing suits? I know that LFS has them. Though some people don't want to change the aspect of GT and somehow that is alot of licensing issue unless you are willingly to wait a long time for it.

Tourist Trophy had many options for suits, helmest gloves etc but no custome options but I reckon that would suffice for me.

Well, in TT. You could see the drivers, though if we could look in to our left and right sides then there is a possibility for me.

I'm not sure what you're saying. Being able to skin your suit to match your car... how is that a licensing issue? Besides, this could be accomplished simply with a few templates with color choices. I doubt it delayed any game very much.

though I would like to use the suit more than just to view it from a replay. For example. Forza's ability to look left and right with the right thumbstick. You are able to see the Driver or at least the what is inside.( well no driver at all...)

Err... that link discusses car issues in Forza. :P

Anyway, skinning a suit and helmet doesn't have to be as involved as a full blown livery creator. I'd just like to be able to have a rough similarity to my racing livery.

There is a livery in all the gran tuismo's after gt2, they are just limited, i think all gt5 needs is changeable rims, which u can port over to different cars with the same fittings, spoilers, mufflers, and viynls, although i dont actually like viynls, it would just make gt more interesting online, paint jobs would look stupid, if its going to be in the game then it should be with certain cars only, i mean, just imagine a green ferrari f40 :S

[Moderator's Note:

"Txt Speek" such as "u" instead of "you" isn't welcome at :gtplanet:
Please leave it at the door as you come in. ;)
"I", "GT" and each sentence should have capital letters, and "I'm" has both a capital letter & an apostrophe. Please consult our Acceptable Use Policy for further details.]

I would love a livery editor as long as there are a fair share of premade company liveries.
Some of us have been asking for this, since not everyone is an artist or knows what to do with a vinyl pattern. Another option would be to include templates which you can color and apply effects like fading and decals to, so everyone can have a good looking custom livery that identifies them uniquely. And then of course, the artists you can pay with game credits to create one for you.

^ Exactly. I know Forza is kicked around in this discussion way too much, but Turn 10 really did give FM2 a wonderful basis to enjoy the game in a mode other than racing. There is a great community of painters which have made big names for themselves, and their cars are highly in demand both in direct sales between people, as well as on the Auction House. One guy named Jamesways as done some stunning replicas of race cars from all fields, and even redid some of the Polyphony Digital cars, like the Skyline pace car and the two versions of the Ford GT LM liveries, including the carbon fiber one. I had to get both of them. These artists don't even need to race, they're so popular, and I made almost as much in the Auction House myself as I did racing. And if you want a custom livery, some of these folk can make you a paint job that would be the envy of real race car designers. In fact, one guy was just hired by an actual competition team in Europe to design their team's liveries! Hey, it doesn't get any bigger than that.

I think this is an area where GT5, having even more cars available, would be perfect.

There is one more thing about Forza that is brilliant. Its community pages, or rather your own page, with your Forza 2 Profile. You canveiw what cars are in the Auction without even turning on your Xbox. It shows all your online racing stats, and alows you to sighn up to the pro tornaments. And if you enter photo mode in Forza 2 you can upload the photos directly from the game, striaght to you Profile page. If we had this, and the Decal editor any where near as good as Forza 2 has. We will all be very happy.

^ Yes, there's that too. I'm hoping that Home offers something similar, as well as linkage between our gamer profile in GT5 and here at GT Planet.

I would love to have the addition of a livery editor. I'm really into the customizing aspect of cars, which is why I enjoy games such as Midnight Club 3. GT5 would immensely benefit from this. Some features can only be so good and only allow for so much. A livery editor would surely allow the game to be enjoyed for much longer, and could even keep most people happy until GT6 is released! :P

I'd be happy with just GT/GT2 style racing modification packages, but I certainly wouldn't be against the inclusion of full livery customization in addition. (Not all of us can or want to spend hours painting our cars, especially when the results don't always turn out quite how we'd like.)

Just my $0.02.

I see no need for a livery editor.

Besides, if one is only going to be included because Forza has one, Gran Turismo will lose some of its integrity. Added features shouldn't be included as knee-jerk reactions to other franchises. If anything, those franchises should be the ones copying GT.

It wont be added because Forza has one. It will be added because the majority of people want to be able to customize their race cars. And if it does have one, will it realy matter. you either use it, or you dont.

Exactly my thoughts. 👍

Personallly from a EU perspective I always saw the use of a livery editor as something involved with young tuners, drifters or US car culture. I also found that videogame players(no car nuts) put a lot more time on this feature than on racing.
