I agree. 8)
Now imagine that you could put that on every car in GT5.

Yeah, I never botherd to much on forza to create cars. but being as the playability on GT5 will be huge. I might actualy make time, to sit their and create my own personal livery. that way, every one will see that car and say hay their Ghost Drift.

I hope that we will be able to import *.eps files or at least *.png and stuff. (...well, IF there will be a livery editor at all)

This would push the editing to a whole new level.
I love the idea of designing "my own car's" livery, but i don't want to do it the forza-way.

Create Logos on your PC ( or download them from brandsoftheworld ) and bring them into GT5 and directly on your new car. This would rock!

That'd be really good, as I find it much easier to create logos and stuff in Photoshop where I can lay down a grid and get measurements right as opposed to having to position and reposition, skew and unskew a little decal on the car ingame.

Yeah but that would only work when the game uses high resolution image files as textures and thats very unlikely.
Would be great though.

While Photoshop and similar graphic tools are fantastic, I wonder how much they offer. For instance, do the latest Photoshops give you the ability to create metallic effects, or metalflake clearcoats? These are built into Forza's livery editor to an extent. But then, maybe a combo would be the perfect solution. Or perhaps a Photoshop-like tool in GT5 which you could use a USB tablet with.

Stuff like metal effects would be rendered in-game and thats exactly what i meant with my post above.
But you can also make texture files like .dds in Photoshop with the right plug-in.

Isn't that whats Alpha channels are for? in dds form then the effect is rendered in game.

Thats what we do in MS Flight sim with a nvidea plug-in for photoshop.

Image importing won't ever happen, as it would be too easy to import pictures of certain body parts and other things that could be seen as offensive.

It would be too easy to import copyrighted material, that's why it would never happed.

Not to mention the fact that the cars will look total dog poo, with HD graphics and then a pixelated sticker shoved on it. Hopefully there will be a shape editor, that will allow us to make are own stuff. Harder to do, but much more rewarding.

I expect that if Poly gives us a livery editor/paint shop - and I expect that they will - for there to be plenty of tools for applying delicious paint schemes, as well as decals and vinyls. A range of fonts and perhaps even decal/font creators. One thing I'm very hopeful for are a range of historically accurate number plates for each racing league throughout the years - and I mean the design and league sponsorships, not the digits for the cars. Having to figure out my own in Forza was a heck of a learning process.

That always depends on the file resolution size.
When i make you a "sticker" in 5000x5000 pixels it wont look like "dog poo". ;)

So you are telling me that a standerd definition graphic Sticker, wont look out of place being scaled and fitted to a car that is fully renderd in HD

It just has to fit to the texture size in the game.
My example, 5000x5000 pixels, is a way higher resolution than the game has, but it is of course a bit more complicated. There also would be a file size maximum needed so you cant use a too high texture resolution (the game/PS3 has to render it and it would take ages online).

But since the game is for sure not using jpg or anything as textures, i dont think we will ever see this, even when we get a livery editor.

Yes, I suspect that any "importing of graphics" for a GT5 livery editor would be DLC from Polyphony, or SONY's online Store. And keep in mind that the PS Store does have freebies.

^ Sure, why not? ;)

I mean, seriously, if you wanted a Media Molecule car to showcase your support for LBP to other racers, or your love for Mobil 1 or AMSOIL, or whatever "sponsor" you wanted, it sounds good to me.
