It was a very good episode, but I was doing couple of choirs and missed few chunks of it. :grumpy: I'm thinking about waiting until end of the year again, then buy the Season 2. I did that with Season 1, and it was pure heaven watching all those episodes in the row........... until the sucky season finale. :D
I thought that, but then found myself in front of the TV again.

Oh, on the Hanso Foundation Website if you go to Active Projects and then move your cursor to just below the links a hidden link for Dharma Initiative will appear. When you click on it you will get the orientation video from the show.

Same here, but I think the last episode was a good cutoff point. :D

Nice. I'd be checking it out. 👍

Don't forget, for anyone interested, it is 9:00 PM eastern on ABC.

Episode 4: SPOILERS

This was mostly a story/character building episode. No new questions were brought about.

At the beginning we learn that the previews with Jin speaking English were of a dream. I had asked early on if Hurley would eat all the food and while he dreamed of it he did not. He ended up dishing it all out in one big party-style event so everyone enjoyed it and no one got angry over the rationing. We find out he did this because when he had won the lottery his life changed and he believed that being in charge of the food made him essentially

Sayid has been trying to find the magnetism in the hatch but it has been covered in 8-10 feet of concrete. He says that he believes ther eis a geothermal generator creating the power in the hatch but he has only seen one other thing coverd in concrete like this, Chernobyl.

Following the raft Losties we see that their captors decide to let them out of the pit and give them some trust. They reveal that they are the few survivors from the tail section of the plane and there WERE 23 of them. There appears to only be about 7 or 8 of them left. Sawyer and Ana-Lucia get along like the best of enemies and I expect to see them squabble for a while. A point of worry is that Sawyer's bullet wound appears to be getting infected. The other survivors take them to their shelter; another hatch! The Dharma logo can be seen on the wall. This answers my question about other hatches on the island. Apparently all six are on the island somewhere. What was the purpose of this one?

Once in the hatch we meet a gentleman named Bernard who asks about Rose (the older black lady). Rose said her husband had gone to the bathroom when the accident occured but that she was sure he was still alive. I think I remember her saying his name was Bernard. Looks like she was right.

The only question I have after this week is:

WTF IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Noteworthy hint: while flipping channels last night I ran across one of the entertainment tabloid shows airing a story about Lost. I only caught the tail end of it but they specualte that Walt was kidnapped because one of the Dharma projects was researching parapsychology (telepathy) and Walt appears to be a perfect test subject. Definitely something to consider.

I will update with any new information as time goes on.

A quick summary of episode 5: ....And Found

Main group: We only follow Sun here as this is an episode about how she and Jin met. Sun has lost her wedding ring and is going insane trying to find it. She refuses help from anyone but Locke manages to calm her down by telling her he always finds things by not looking for them. This proves true after Kate finds out about the bottle with the messages from the raft and wants to see it. She didn't get to say goodbye to Sawyer and wants to see what he wrote. (Feelings there?) After digging up the bottle they find Sun's ring in the hole.

Raft Group and Tailies: They are going to head across the island to find the main group, but first have to find food. Jin shows his fishing skills once again by catching five fish in one net toss by luring them in with urchin meat. Michael, in a hunt, runs off to try and find Walt and the "Others."

While the rest of the group starts looking for the main group Jin and a man Ana-Lucia calls Eko begin trying to track him down. While looking for him they hide from a group of people walking along. Eko only refers to them as "they." While hiding we can only see their bare feet going by. Eko mentions they leave no tracks, bare feet would help with this. All the legs and feet seem small and slender and one has a teddy bear on a rope. Children? They also run across a dead body with a spear in the chest that Eko identifies as Mr. Goodwin(?). Mr. Eko tells Jin that he has no clue what "they" ar capable of. Eventually they track down Michael and convince him that he is searching in a lost cause and they all three head back to join the main group of tailies.

The main group begins their trek towards the other survivors with Sawyer guiding them He appears to be getting weaker, possibly due to his infected gunshot wound. However, he has not lost his wit or charm and actually manages to get a smile from Ana-Lucia. Different times Sawyer tries to get answers about what happened to them that has them all on edge and jumpy but he only gets sheepish looks. Was the rest of their group killed by "They" or did they get the illness that Danielle referred to and have to be killed by their friends?

A note for anyone interested. The next two weeks are reruns and a good chance to catch up some. This is to avoid competing with the World Series and to put what appears to be some suspensful episodes into November sweeps. The next new episode is on November 9th.

OK, after two weeks of reruns we finally got a new episode.

Raft survivors are walking with the tail survivors, trying to find the main group. While walking through the jungle Ana-Lucia tries to get everyone to be quiet but Jin, Sawyer, and Michael are talking like nothing is going on. When Ana-Lucia tries to get them to be quiet Michael says that if she wants them to be quiet she has to tell them why. Ana explains that they came and took people from their camp and that they are very smart and dangrersous. During this we see a glimpse of Ana having a softer side. Michael, Sawyer and Jin get the hint and shut up.

As they walk Sawyer's bullet wound is getting worse due to infection and he eventualy passes out. They build a stretcher to carry Sawyer on and continue on their way. Soon after they find themselves at a two-story tall cliff and have to pass Sawyer up in levels. Doing this causes them to spread out and when they reach the top one of them, Cindy, has disappeared. We are to assume that they took Cindy and she is as good as dead.

Not long after the group begins to hear the whispers in the woods and Ana draws the gun and screams, "run."

During all this Shannon and Sayid are getting closer and eventually sleep together. Sayid! Not long after their bed exploits Shannon sees Walt again. She yells and when Sayid comes running he doesn't see anyone. Shannon gets frustrated with Sayid and decides to try and see if Vincent, the dog, can track Walt's scent. Walt leads Shannon to Boone's grave. Shannon stares at Boone's grave sadly and this connects us to her past where we learn that Shannon wasn't always snotty but after her father died her stepmother, Boone's mother, cuts her off financially. Boone promises to help Shannon, but then betrays her when he goes to work for his own mother.

While Shannon is moping at Boone's grave Sayid catches up with her and wants to know what she is doing. She tells him that she needs him to believe her. She is not satisfied with his half-hearted attempt at an answer and goes marching off into the jungle. Sayid follows her trying to get her to stop wandering around. Eventually it begins to rain and Sayid stops her trying to get her to turn back. While doing this Walt appears again and they both see him. Shannon goes chasing after Walt and as she goes into a bunch of trees we hear a gunshot.

Sayid runs to Shannon and finds her with a bullet wound in the center of her chest. When he looks up it cuts to the raft and tail end survivors. Ana is holding the gun, it is discharged. We see Michael looking down at in shock and a cut back to Sayid shows Sayid's expression turns to one of anger (hate?). (Note: We never actually see Sayid/Shannon and the tail/raft survivors in the same shot. Might mean something or nothing at all.)

On the side we se Charlie being very fatherly to Claire's baby, Aaron. When Locke helps show her how to calm Aaron she decides to discuss how she feels that Charlie is taking on this father role and they aren't even married or anything. She fears he may be a religious freak because he has a statue of Mary in his bag. Locke immediately recognizes this as being from the drug plane carrying heroine hidden in Mary statues, but he says nothing.

Those remembering Season 1 will remember that Locke was integral in getting Charlie away from heroine. This sets up an interesting plot line down the road.

Next week we learn about what happened to the tail-end survivors.

did anyone see today's episode (11/16)?

basically, today's episode went over what the other half of the survivors went through. everything connects basically. the reasons why the second half of survivors are so paranoid really clears up.

Okay we get to see the tail section survivors. The show opened with the plane tail section crashing into the water. Very cool effect in my opinion.

Everyone swims or is pulled ashore and begins to try and figure out how to survive. We get to meet Ana-Lucia, Mr. Eko, Bernard, Libby, Cindy, Nathan, and Goodwin. Mr. Eko saves a small girl from drowning while her brother watches. Oncve ashore Ana-Lucia uses mouth to mouth to save her and then promises to get her home.

Goodwin begins to start a fire for a signal fire and explains that he was in the Peace Corps. During the first night Ana-Lucia and others are awakend by a muffled struggling sound. When they go to inspect we find that Mr. Eko has killed two people that were not part of the flight (others?). They have the bare feet and dirty look of the people we caught a glimpse of two weeks back.

As the days go on we see the survivors creating weapons and find that Mr. Eko is not talking. One evening Nathan comes wandering out of the woods after two hours. Ana-Lucia becomes suspicious. That night they are attacked again and nine survivors are taken, including teh two children. Ana-Lucia kills one of the attackers and finds they have an US Army issue knife and a list of names of the nine survivors that were taken. Ana-Lucia immediately suspects Nathan.

The group decides that they must find somewhere other than the beach to hide and so they go off into the jungle. They decide on an area with clean water and fruit trees. Ana-Lucia immediately begins digging a large hole, which she later throws Nathan into. She begins interrogating Nathan to find out who the other people are and why they are attacking the. Nathan constantly says that he is not who she suspects him of being. After four days Ana-Lucia finds that Mr. Eko has been feeding Nathan and becomes angry. That evening Goodwin lowers a rope to Nathan and helps him out. He hands Nathan a bundle with food telling him to run and hide, but as Nathan turns Goodwin snaps his neck, killing him.

The group decides to move on and find a bunker with the Dharma logo. Inside they find a radio and Ana-Lucia and Goodwin decide to go to higher ground to use the radio. While walking they begin to talk and Ana-Lucia's questions become more probing until she finally asks why his clothes weren't wet the day of the crash. He had never been in the jungle. Found out, Goodwin explains that they take the strongest first, the "good people" and then thechildren. He explains that they are better off now. He admits to killing Nathan because Ana-Lucia would eventually figure it out.

At this Ana-Lucia attacks Goodwin and they begin to fight. The fight finally ends when Goodwin falls back on Ana-Lucia's spear, killing him. This is the same speared body we saw in episode 205 when Jin and Mr. Eko were looking for Michael. When Ana-Lucia returns to teh bunker she explains that they are safe and ends up crying. Mr. Eko breaks his forty days of silence in order to comfort her.

Boone's distress call is heard over the radio and Bernard answers it saying that they are the survivors of flight 815. Nothing more happens as they do not know if this is a trick by the others.

This brings us up to date with the other suirvivors as we then get a montage of everything we have seen since Jin washes ashore, including a definitive look at Ana-Lucia shooting Shannon.

Questions this episode raises:
1) Who are the others?
2) What do they want?
3) Why are the children better off?
4) Was the young girl with the teddy bear the same as the one we saw the feet of two weeks ago?
5) What will the original survivors' response be to Shannon's death?
6) The raft group's return?
7) The story of the tail survivors?
8) How will Sayid react?
9) WTF is going on?!?!?!?!?!?!

Feel free to add or ask questions.

OK, because of the holidays (Thanksgiving in the US) I didn't get to post my summary of last week. I will make it very short.

Sayid tries to attack Ana, but Eko stops him. Sayid tries to shoot Eko but loses the gun in the skirmish. Ana picks up the gun and breaks up the fight. They tie Sayid to a tree and then after some arguments Eko takes Sawyer to the main group so that he can get medical treatement from Jack.

The rest fight some more and they all leave Ana sitting with Sayid and Michael going to get her supplies so that she can survive by herself because she is afraid that she won't be accepted after she killed Shannon.

Ana and Sayid talk and then they go back to the camp together.

We end with a tear jerker scene where Jin and Sun reunite and we also see Bernard seek out Rose and then running to her where they kiss.

Now on to this week's episode.

What Kate Did

This is a Kate-centered episode.

I am going to summarize and leave out the unimportant bits to save time.

Jack and Kate have been caring for Sawyer. Kate is out getting fruit for Sawyer when she sees a black horse. Thsi causes her to have her flashback.

Kate's flashback:

Kate blows up her father in his house, but whom she had believed was her stepfather. She hints to her mom (while she's working) about what she did. Apparently he beat her mother. She gets arrested the first time by the marshal because her mom reported her.

The Marshal is driving Kate to her arraignment at night and he is trying to make her angry and get her to talk. Something that looks like a deer runs across the road and he swerves the car, hitting a tree. Kate acts quickly grabbing the handcuff keys and kicking him out of the car. As she turns the car around she sees the same black horse we saw on the island.

Next we see her go into what appears to be an Army recruitment center and begins talking with a man she calls her dad. This is the man who raised her. She asks him why he never told her that he wasn't her real father but the guy she blew up was. He tells her it is because he knew that she would kill him. When she is leaving he says he will have to call the polioce and she asks him for an hour, which he agrees to and then hugs her.

In the present day time Kate is taking care of Sawyer while everyone else (but Ana) is at Shannon's funeral. Sawyer he grabs her and says, "Why did you kill me?" Kate jerks free and runs off.

Jack and Locke return to find only 20+ seconds on the timer and Sawyer on the floor. Locke enters the numbers while Jack gets Sawyer back in bed.

While Jack is looking for Kate Michael and Eko are hanging out in teh bunker getting the story from Locke. Michael notices blast doors that would drop down from the ceiling in the event of an explosion. No one can explain them. Locke shows Michael and Eko the film. Michael appears skeptical and Eko just walks out without saying a word.

Eko returns later with the Bible that he found in the other bunker. He shows it to Locke and locke finds the insides cut out to create a hidden pocket, which contains some of the film.

Meanwhile Kate is wandering in a daze from the shock of seeing the black horse and thinking Sawyer has become possessed by her father. She asks Charlie if he thinks there are any horses on the island and he says that he hasn't seen any, just polar bears and monsters. Eventually Jack finds Kate and tries to find out what is wrong. She breaks down crying and when Jack consoles her she kisses him. (About time!) She immediately runs off.

Later we see Kate sitting by Shannon's grave and Sayid comes and places her necklace on the makeshift cross marker. Kate tells Sayid that she thinks she is going crazy because of what she is seeing. Sayid admits to seeing Walt with Shannon and asks her if he is crazy. This helps to calm Kate and she returns to the bunker.

Jack is theer and Kate promises that she will take care of Sawyer properly. She begins to talk to her dad (Wayne) through Sawyer saying that she killed him because she knew that he was in her. She goes on about how every time she sees Sawyer and feels something for him she sees some of Wayne in him and she hates him for that. Sawyer, apparently waking up, says that is the sweetest thing that he has ever heard.

Sawyer then begins to ask where they are and if they have been saved, because he is in a bunk bed. Kate tells him no but he refuses to believe untilk she takes him outside. See that they are on the island appears to piss Sawyer off.

Sawyer then sees teh black horse and Kate turbns around to see it too. She feels better about this knowing that Sawyer sees it too. She walks up and pets teh horse and then she and Sawyer sit down together.

Inside the bunker Locke and Eko are splicing the piece of film into the original and Locke is going on about what the odds of all the right pieces falling into place for this to happen would be. Eko quickly tells him not to confuse coincidence with fate. Locke seems shocked at this comment.

They then watch the film while Michael is checking out the computers. The missing piece tells them not to use the computer for anything other than entering the numbers because it could create another "incident."

At the same time Michael hears a beep and looks up but the timer says 51 minutes. He hears it again and looks at the monitor. The moniotor says "Hello?" Michael types back, "Hello?" Then the monitor says, "Who is this?" Michael types in, "This is Michael. Who is this?"

The monitor then says, "Dad?"

We see the fullscreen shot of just this word before the episode ends.

I am sure I left something out, but I got the jist in.

I thought that the 'deer' was actually the black horse. Like the black horse was what helped her to escape and finally get onto the island, where it just so happens that the black horse is hanging out.

Can't wait for it to start up again :guilty:

Hi, guys! Glad to see the thread is still alive and well. :) I've been avoiding this thread, because I haven't been following the show. Instead, I'm planning to watch it all on DVD, when the second set comes out. Anyways, is the show still going strong? How do you feel about season two, compared to the first season?

P.S. While channel surfing, I accidentally caught Shannon(or her body) being laid down by Sayid, so I guess she's dead( 👎 ).

I think so too, but for effect they made it seem like a deer until you see the horse clearly. It is then that you realize she has some crazy connection to this horse and why she is obsessed with it on the island. It appears whenever she gains freedom. The marshal is a symbol of her father's memory/guilt chasing her no matter how far she runs and I believe on the island the horse is symbolizing her freedom from her father's memory/guilt, thus allowing her to clearly decide on Sawyer.

Definitely want it to start back up.

Yep.

I am liking the second season. It is definitely creating more mystery around the island and building more on the characters. Knowing more about the Others and how they act has created more suspense and suspicion. I find myself questioning the intent of anyone we have just met or have little information about.

The first season seems to have been better but I don't know if has more to do with the newness of it and everything or if it really was better. That said the cliffhangers leave you saying "Holy S***!" much more often this season. The most recent one has me really wanting to see the next episode, but alas I must wait.

Hopefully Michelle Rodriguez and the other actress getting DUIs won't hold anything up. I would hate to find out the episode is pushed back because they spent a week doing community service or something.

Hey, VIPFREAK are you hoping it (show and thread) dies? :odd: As long as the show is on and good and the ABC forums remain a mess full of illiterates I will spew my thoughts here.

Yeah, it was cool when it first started but in the end this kind of show has been beaten over and over so many times. You already know the two paths that pretty much have to happen and then the show would die. does it take two seasons? I suppose but in the mean time it's a mini soap box to drag it along.

 That's funny
A lot of peopel think they will get off because it happened 15 minutes apart as they were leaving the same place. When it was first reported I heard news anchors saying that it sounded like profiling. A good lawyer can probably argue that based on the situation alone. I know a guy in college got off with profiling because the cops would watch bars popular with the college crowd.

It didn't help when the defense investigation turned up pay bonuses for each student caught driving under the influence.

What are the two paths that have to happen?

The attraction is the quality of the show and mysteries that actually leave you guessing at what is going on instead of being some sort of predictable recycled garbage.

The creators said they have a story planned for six seasons, so I figure that whatever they have in mind does need more than one season.

VIPFREAK
They get off the island or they all die.
That doesn't explain the Others, the hatch, the monster, the fact that the cripple can suddenly walk, why the Others take some people and kill the rest, the button, the connections everyone's pasts have to each other, the numbers, or any of the other mysteries on the island.

The island itself is merely a setting for a mystery/sci-fi suspense thriller. I mean, no one got concerned with how Gilligan and the gang got off the island, they just wanted to see how Gilligan did something funny.

Whether they get off the island or eventually die is just a closure to the series and has almost no importance to the story itself. The attempts to get off the island are only a means to discovering more about the island and will be unimportant until the series ends.

Would you rather they pull a Cast Away and jump two years ahead to where they get off the island and they all look worn down? It takes more than a season because one season only covered 40 some odd days. Some episodes never cover more than a few hours in island time.

The show is not, nor has it ever been, about getting off the island. The characters only attempt to get off the island because it would cause the show to create a disconnect with it's resemblance to reality and thus lose the audience. When ABC first heard the plot of people crashed on an island they nearly turned it down until they were shown it was much more and the crash and the island were just setting. If it were just people trying to get off an island it wouldn't even be a show.

This they scenario A or scenario B attitude towards a TV show can be applied to every television show out there.

:shrugs: I don't know... if it's not one of those scenarios it seems like it turned out to be a typical soap box to me. It got old FAST.

It's the first TV show to truly catch my attention in a while. It got me to quit playing video games for one night. I mean, my only other opstion is to watch reality TV with my wife, but those shows all suck.

I don't know how reality shows are still on realizing shows like survivor is in there... 10th? season or whatever is extremely sad... There are so many other shows that are better than reality and lost.

This is a nice thread, I've also become somewhat of a lost addict.. I started watching them on the TV, but soon had to turn to downloading in order to satisfy my growing hunger for episode 2 episodes. Real shame that they have a holiday break in the US.

I didn't know about the websites, great stuff, reminds me of what they made for "24".

http://www.dharmaindustries.com/ is deffinitly the most interesting one. I guess you guys know how to get past the IP check, but can you tell me what the member ID is? I don't have the time right now to look it up.

EDIT: it would appear that not a single person has succeeded in entering that page with a valid member ID, they must be keeping it unavailable until a later air-date.

If you right click the "ENTER" link and go to the properties you get http://www.kraftkost.se/main.php as the host site. All official sites (created by ABC) have had a link posted on the show (http://www.thehansofoundation.org) or have a Disney related "Terms of Use" link hidden somewhere on the page (http://oceanic-air.com/). Since ABC is owned by Disney anything with the Disney Terms of Use is presumed "official." Of course, anyone could link to that from their own site, but I would bet that legal action would soon follow.

The Dharmaindustries.com site is hosted outside the US and appears to be a fan site that was abandoned after the initial Flash member ID link. Or it was purposely left that way to mess with our heads. If you go to http://www.kraftkost.com (based off the properties link above) you get a site talking about cloning. At one point it said it was the Darma Industries site (not Dharma) but that has disappeared, making me think ABC may have given them some copyright pressure.

To sum up, I wouldn't worry about the Dharma Industries page. Perhaps they will do something more with it later, or they just enjoy seeing how many hits they get, knowing that they are frustrating people.

That makes it sound so far away. My wife got me teh season 1 DVDs so I will rewatch that to fill in the time. I also record season 2 on my PC and put them on DVD so I will be rewatching them too.

It was nice to have because I saw people online talking about the shark having a Dharma logo on its tail and I popped the DVD in. My player will do frame by frame so I was able to catch it.
