Great going Mac! 👍 Best of luck and please keep us posted. I think we're all pretty excited for you!

Even in karting, I was always too anxious to sleep well. Just remember that you've got a good feel for the car and track already. Whatever the crew is going to do is what the crew will do; you only have control over the driving. If you can't sleep, (believe me, it's harder than you think,) just remind yourself that all you have to do is drive. Just go out, and show them what you're made of. 👍 good luck!

Race days are actually quite long with tech, practice/quali then a few races due to multiple classes which Mac hinted at and even an awards ceremony it appears.

Just curious Mac, the cars are all skip barber owned cars right? So is there a need for tech inspection aside from safety equipment?

Yeah we usually get 3 or 4 races so I was just wondering if the races were long or if there were maybe a lot more classes than we have here.
And of course all the best for next week 👍

Only 2 races a weekend? How long are they?

30 minutes. We have to share the day with Formula 2000s as well so it's a packed day.

Yes, it's sort of an "arrive and drive" if you will, the only thing I need to do is get fitted to the seat properly.

I got my schedule today, looks like I'm in the 2nd group. I'm also the only rookie entered in the MX-5. Thanks for the well wishes guys.

Well I leave first thing tomorrow morning, I'm really excited. To show my appreciation and as a sign of respect, I'll be running "In Memory of Sean Edwards 1986-2013" on my helmet for my race this weekend.

How did I miss this thread when you first started it up?

Best of luck to you Mackenzie, show those other drivers how it's done! :D

Ended up 3rd in my first race yesterday, so I'm happy with that. I have my 2nd one in a few hours. :)

It's getting better, still needs some work. I got 2nd today in my second race, and won the rookie of the race award as well. Full write up when I get home. :)

Okay..

Day 1: Nerves and Practice 1&2

I arrived at Limerock early, registration and drivers meetings were at 8 AM so I got there just before 7:30. After getting acquainted with everyone and saying hello to some old friends, we had van arounds. My first practice session followed, the track was still wet, but was drying out towards the end. The guy who was leading the points and ended up winning the championship, Ben Albano showed up late so he was put in my group. We had a good little scrap in practice and I learned a lot from him. The 2nd practice session had both groups combine into one, and I ended up 5th overall out of 10 people, including 2 test drivers.

Day 2: Qualifying and My first ever race

Qualifying was slightly delayed, so the track was already pretty greasey when I ran my laps. I still ended up with 3rd, and within the same tenth as 2nd. I was over driving like crazy in qualifying, so I came in to cool the car and clear my head, and I was given a lot of respect for that to my surprise. With my confidence lifted, I went into my first race, ready to go. I was put into 2nd on the grid because the pole sitter (who was super quick and a really great guy to boot) wanted to charge from the back. You can see how the race goes when I post the video later, but I ended up 3rd in my first ever race in anything, so I was really happy with that.

Day 3: Race 2 and Banquet

My 2nd race was delayed be over an hour for reasons I still don't know, but this one was a blast, I was able to hang with the two lead cars for most of the race, until I went wide in a corner and clipped the end of a rumble strip, I damaged the left rear suspension slightly, so I backed off not wanting to push it, 2nd place had an off track excursion so I went by him and held on for a few more laps to finish 2nd. The banquet was the following night, and I had tons of people, some who I didn't even know shake my hand, give me hugs, and congratulate me on my races, needless to say it felt good and it still does. I got along well with all my instructors and fellow racers and I had so many people tell me to stick with racing, because I really had a future in it. Stuff like this brings a tear to my eye, as you all know it's my dream to become a pro racer, and to hear compliments like this, really makes me feel good and appreciate how lucky I am. Videos to come as they upload. I have the first race of the winter series at Road Atlanta in just over 3 weeks time, so I'm looking forward to that.

Qualifying

Great going Mac. So happy for you! 👍 Well done indeed!

I can't wait to see the video.

Nice job! I'm pretty sure it's safe to say everyone here is at least slightly jealous (in a good way) of your training/adventure. I am at least :)
So was that the end of the season? Do you have plans for next season?

Don't be jealous man, I'm not trying to make you guys feel that way, I'm only sharing my "adventures" with you all to show it is possible to live your dream and maybe inspire a few of you to do so:P Or.. better yet come and race against me  Here's my video from race 1, it was a good race but the 2nd race (which I should have up later this evening) is much more exciting.

Maybe "Jealous" wasn't the right word but I'm happy for you :).
That pass 3 mins in on race 2 was textbook perfect, I think something clicked for you between race 1 and 2, race 2 seemed a little smoother. Good Job 👍

Are you going to try to get in the "skippy" soon? ;)

Interview in the paper, that's really cool! Have you chased any sponsors or got any yet? That interview will be really good for your public profile if you are chasing any now
