The weight balance thing is a debatable one, some people think it's real and some think it's just placebo effect.

Personally I don't believe in it as some magic thing, the change is so small (if it even exists) that it's next to impossible to say if the balance really changed or if you just drove that corner 2 km/h slower and thus got more front tyre grip. Or braked a fraction of a second later and thus had more weight on the fronts when turning in. Most of the handling differences come down to the driver and their microscopic mistakes in cornering.

👍
I believe the ballast system in GT4 is legit.
However, I very strongly agree with Greycap's observations regarding a driver's perception and execution of testing.
This alone is why I believe judges in tuning challenges should be required to have a legit all-gold super license while also passing a basic original driving test (sorry, that's kind of out of the blue huh? ).

... :dunce: ...
Point is, I think Greycap's post here was a good one (although I'm not as skeptical about the ballast system).

I have to say that I've tested it on multiple cars, with varying results. How ever, the differences were barely noticeable. Less in extremely neutral or heavy cars, and more in light and oversteery cars. I can give it a shot tomorrow if you wish.

I'll probably mess around with it a bit as well.

The general theory as I'm sure you already know is that it relocates various existing components of the car. I don't know how much stock I put in that as there are very few components of significant weight in a car that are realistically moveable, but there ARE some. That would mean a negligible effect on heavy cars where the relative weights of the moveable parts are small, and more effect in lighter cars where the relative weight is greater. So I guess it does make some sense. I know that I felt a difference in your Fairlady Leo - my first test drive I forgot to adjust the weight balance. When I did, it improved significantly.

Well I know the game accounts for the ballast as extra weight. Simply add ballast to a car and check the weight display before and after, they atleast covered that much- your added weight will be accounted for. 👍

Quite right 👍 I only meant in cases where no extra weight is added.

I just wonder if I will ever be able to catch Grey's 1'32 phantom lap. Probably not. and while he has bit heavier car, it seems to utilize grip of the tyres better.. but then again, my car was originally a grocery getter for grandma, not a turbocharged nutcase..

:ouch:You may need a touch more power for that...

Greycap: I drove your March, and I do see a huge difference between it and the Clio you made. I've not driven many FFs with my newish DFP, so I don't want to review it yet, but it is clear with the March that you are pushing the very outer limits of what's possible with the chassis. I'm making an effort to avoid wheelspin in this car, while I tried-elaborately, mind you-to get wheelspin in the Clio above first gear (I only got it either while airborne or on that second metal-plated turn on the N-Ring). Though I used an orange March with bronze Nismo wheels, and the style is wonderful. You should have a look at it, it's quite handsome.

*ahem* the March is mine..:sly: Grey did the Starlet Glanza. time to get more coffee.. or better yet, more sleep. ;)

the March looks nice, too bad you can't get stickers on your car in GT4, maybe for GT6?
how would you think about the customizing mode of NFS, for example, with the driving physics of GT??
then it would be the perfect game to me ;)
they could get the customizing in the virtual dealership....
excuse me for this "offtopic" post :$

As long as they keep the customizing somewhat sensible (read: modifications increase performance) I would be all for it. The options list wouldn't even need to be that huge, even the chance of adding a few logos and stripes here and there would make a big difference. Taking a look at my Amuse NSX's here explains it very well.

I think greycap is right too.
but i like to customize the looks of the car, like Hamann, Gemballa, and so on....
it would be fantastic to me to see it in GT6....

GT2 had a good take on it - a "Stage 4 Weight Reduction", if you will, which gave each car its own specially-modeled race body, in full livery, sometimes in several different color options. That'd be nice to see in a future GT game, but the 3d modeling has gotten so intense that I doubt there'd be the space for it.

Racing Modification does further lighten you car in GT2.., having that again in a future GT game, that would be cool!! 👍

It can't be too hard, and not all cars would get it.

of course.., that would eat up most of the space on the disk :D.., and that would look silly on some cars..,

For one... We can has two disc, PD? Leik GT2?

Also, I think drag racing needs to come and say hello in GT as well.

:ouch: The March was yours, Leo? Either way, my comment stands...

Also, I've tested a few other FFs, so I can say this with confidence: That any-speed torque-steer available with the hatchback is creepy. Fun, certainly, but creepy. You get a bit too excited in a corner, you find yourself at an insane angle, in a world of smoke. You close your eyes, brace for impact, and... You come out of the other end totally okay. It's pretty sweet, actually.

We had this issue come up in the TCv2 judging results actually. The phenomenon you're describing as torque steer, isn't actually torque steer. I thought it was as well, but someone pointed out (among other things) that torque steer only operates in one direction, not both, since its the product of driveshafts of unequal length spinning at different speeds at high revs.

We don't know exactly what the name of the phenomenon you're describing is. Personally, I think it's just the fact that as the front tires begin to squeal before they actually begin to spin, which is the state in which a tire produces maximum grip, the front end is hauled HARD in the direction of steering. This is a useful tool if the diff and gearing are set to allow enough of it without easy transition into wheelspin, but it can bite you in the backside if there's too much of it.

Not knowing what else to call it, I just call it FF Oversteer

I already have.I tryed out the "Godzilla" and it amazed me. Awesome handles and speed loved it great car. As well as the Gekko Jr. another great car, enjoy both of them. The only one i had problems with was the Mustage, well not really problems just not my type of car. It feels really heavy and its soooo hard to keep on the tracks. Besides that your cars are great, right now im racing to make money so i can try the Lotus MotorSport Elise 260RS '99 cant wait.

i think i also experienced this one, when i tried a Suzuki CONCEPT S-2 i just won from the Kei Car challenge.., it was "oversteering" a lot on the bumpy roads of Citta 'di Aria.., i checked the replays, it was cool.., it looked like the Suzuki was "drifting" or something.., talk about FF drift!! (which in reality does not exist :()

alright then 👍 PM me the details of the car you want to be done. tyres, power, wing/no wing, weight, and if you haven't done so yet, check posts number 1 and 11 for clarifications.

Hi guys.

I'd like you to make me a GSX-R/4 and i know i wont get one unless i write a little review. I already got a setup for it, but i think you guys might actually take it to a whole new level. :D

If you could tell me what car to try out i'll definitely have a look at it and report my impressions of that car to you.

"Peugeot 206CRC - goes like a greased weasel!" was the planned marketing line for the since canned CRC model of the trusty 206. It was to be the top of the range option, adding the extra "C for Credible" to the RC model. Only one was built from an RC before the project was deemed to be of too little volume to make any significant profits and cancelled. Now that car is in our hands and it's very clear that it exist for one single reason, to be the ultimate road going 206. Despite the significant power in such a light car the front tyres are still doing their job just as they did before with few situations in which traction loss occurs. It's not the fastest front wheel driver ever, far from it, but it's the combination of streetability and track performance what makes it the crown jewel of the 206 range.

That depends solely of your driving skills. Just to help your decision making, the cars do have a skill level badge behind the link to the setup on the first page. Since I don't know your skill level, it is quite hard to recommend a car that wouldn't bite your head off right from the beginning.

I'd say i can take on all of your cars except the "Expert" ones. Just tell me which of those cars you would like reviewed and i'll gladly do it :P

i tested the dodge viper SRT10 r/t '03 and the settings u have for it are nice the car handles real well and it fitted my driving style real well i give u guys a 9 out of 10 on this build:) this is one of my favret cars right know in gt4 other than my drift cars

Hmmm.. I think I'd appreciate if you'd review Gekko Jr.'91 (Skyline GTS-T '91) from me, or Lexus GS500 from Greycap.

how about the Grim R34per?? (loud evil laugh, with Symphony # something, the scary piano tune) :D yeah i know, that car has an Expert badge on it..,

hmm, i maybe tempted to try the Lan-Evo IV TME.., (sensing a good touge car..,)

OR if i want to take a break from touge racing.., the R34per perhaps?? :mischievous:

BTW, which Skyline did you use for the R34per??
