Man... Brandon Webb had a miserable night during Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN against the Dodgers. They lost 9-1 at Chase Field on Sunday Night.

ESPN picked the worst possible night to pick a D-Backs game for Sunday Night Baseball.

But we beat the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday afternoon, 8-6 and shortstop Stephen Drew hit for the cycle (5-5, single, 2 doubles, triple, solo HR) on the same day that the Adrian Beltre of the Mariners hit the cycle (4-5? single, double, triple, HR).

Astros win 9-7 in 11 innings. However, this was nothing compared to that scoring fest between the Braves and Marlins. I think the score was 16-14 with Atlanta winning in Miami.

The Astros swept the Cubs and are now about 6 games out of the Wild Card lead. We're off tonight to make ready to play at the Colorado Rockies. I think this is their first time this season the 'stros strolled into Denver. All I can say is, we're going to see a slugfest up there in Mile High.

Ok so the Giants just went hot then got cold. I'm done with them this season but I keep getting more and more excited about the future of the Giants!!!

Ok so it's likely that the Giants may be acquiring CC Sabathia, YES! Him! Imagine the 123 punch of Lincincum, CC, and Cain. With the possibility of Sanchez but he may be getting traded. And then Zito who had a good run in August.

Also Buster Posey just signed in with San Jose to get some at bats before the season ends. So mid way next year we will see Buster who is supposed to be the next big star next year maybe!

Molina will be catching most likely as he still has one more contracted season with the Giants. Rowand may be traded same with Winn not sure but it would be a good thing... Because we will get some good players in return.

There are two aspects of baseball- pitching and hitting (not to mention defense). It would be a good deal for the Giants if they get C.C. Sabathia (who is from the Bay Area) and coming to play for... the Giants and not his home Oakland A's. Then again, going to the A's means a hometown boy plays for his home team against the likes of the Angels, the Mariners, the Rangers, and the rest of the AL West including the Yankees and the Red Sox among others.

Speaking of the Yanks, they failed to sweep Tampa Bay earlier today in "ghetto" Tropicana Field despite a late rally by the Yankees.

As an off-topic note, I learned that former WWE Wrestler, WWE commentator, and sports announcer for (then) CSTV, Johnathan Coachman... has joined ESPNEWS. You sometimes know who's voice you're hearing that you can easily recall and wonder... "is that him/her?" Sure enough, the Coach is on ESPNEWS.

CC said him self that he wanted to come play in SF. Someone quoted that on the giants forums. Defense wise we are pretty good, with Viquel helping teaching people about defense is a big boost.

Also Giants GM was thinking of Fielder too but that would add an ass load of cash to spend. But eh would be cool to have a few guy from a hot team.

I'm getting to exited right now about the future, I don't think I can wait till next season when are rookies have learned more about adjusting then we can start seeing some real potential and maybe even a playoff run. But this year and last year were re-building. We now have the players, we just need a coach that doesn't blow major balls, and a GM that actually does something.

IMO, the Giants probably have the best pitching not only in the division, but the entire National League, and adding CC would probably make that rotation unbeatable.

But I have heard that if CC doesn't re-sign with Milwaukee, the Yankees and the front runners to acquire him (add him to the rotation with Pettite, Mussina and Wang and they might be able to win the AL East next year)

That series was pretty meaningless, but we did see the first use of Instant Replay in the MLB on Wednesday. There was a dispute on a ball hit by Alex Rodriguez and nobody was sure if it was fair or foul, it was ultimately ruled a fair home run.

He's joined ESPN actually, I've seen him do a couple some Sportscenter stuff they air during their early morning shows (Mike & Mike in the morning and First Take).

For my team, the D-backs, Bobby Melvin really needs to take a look at his lineup, it's an absolute mess only good thing is Drew leading off and Dunn in cleanup. Other than that, all the guys who strike out (Young, Reynolds and Jackson) then the guys who hit for average (Tracy, Insert 2nd baseman here, Alex Romero, Chris Burke and Augie Ojeda) then the catcher (either Snyder or Montero) then the pitcher (which aren't easy outs, the d-backs lead the MLB in pitchers who have the most RBI's).

Eight wins... and no more. The Astros lose 5-3 at the Colorado Rockies. I hope Milwaukee lost their extra-inning duel with San Diego so that we can still be six or five games back.

Dan Haren had another rough outing against the Dodgers, only 4 innings, but gave up 5 earned runs on 6 hits, walked 4 batters and only got 2 strikeouts.

Hopefully Brandon Webb can get his 20th win today against Chad Billengsily.

Last night in San Francisco, a magnitude 4 earthquake rocked San Francisco even as the Pirates were hosted by the Giants. Only thing that got shaken up that night was the Giants as they lost in a 3-0 or 4-0 shutout last night.

I don't know how my Astros did in Game 2 of their series at Colorado as of this post. They're still fighting to make the postseason. God help them.

Giants lost 7-0

Oh well we won tonight 7-6 with a solo home run from Rich Aurillia, a 2 run home run from McClain (2nd since being called up when roster expansions happened) and a solo home run from Schierholtz with his first.

Also Giants picked up rookie Conor Gillaspie who was drafted just 92 days ago. He is the fasted Giant to be put into the majors after being drafted.

Giants wore a uniform I havn't seen and I don't know why, instead of saying Giants on it, it said Gigantes. Hmmm..

Probably Hispanic heritage night, I know Hispanic heritage month is coming up, but anyway the jersies were like that because Gigantes is spanish for Giants.

The D-Backs has something similar last Saturday when their uniforms had Los D-Backs on them instead of just D-Backs.

Ok, I thought it might be something like that but wasn't sure.

Giants won 11-6 this afternoon thanks to a rally in the 5th that scored 10 runs!!! In fact we had 0 hits up to that point. McClouth really got hit hard on the head off that ricochet I hope he is alright.

I think that was a big slap in the face to are manager to play the rookies. They just tore it up that inning.

Also why does your Arizona have to go ahead and give up the lead to the stupid Dodgers?

Get it back now!!! But don't do it until after this series! I want to see the Giants win some more :sly:

The Dodgers won eight in a row. A stat I read on ESPNEWS on Saturday night was that Brandon Webb lost (as of Saturday) three straight since getting his 19th win. His ERA is a miserable 12.5. Even stars stumble, but this is rough waters for B-Webb.

Meanwhile, we swung for the fences against Colorado and won 7-5. Still six games back in the NL Wild Card. I know we host the Cubs this coming weekend. The Astros HAVE to make some noise if they want their playoff hopes to come alive. Hurricane Ike concerns me. Not sure if this will affect Houston and this game (even though we play at a retractable roof stadium), but I'm concerned.

Also why does your Arizona have to go ahead and give up the lead to the stupid Dodgers?

Our starters have struggled lately, none of them, except for Doug Davis & Yusmeiro Petit has gone at least 6 innings in their last 2 starts.

And with Dodgers having ManRam, Ethier and Loney in the middle of that lineup, it's not gonna be easy keeping none of them off base.

Well. Yankees are in 4th place.

Feels weird. They haven't been in this position in my entire life. :(👎

You mean in 4th place? They hit the cellar of the division countless times last year! Also this year they reached top bottom, I think it was back in June.

In order for them to make the playoffs this year, either the Red Sox or the Rays, have to collapse like the Mets did last year. It'll be awesome when the media criticizes Hank S for letting JT go, while he waives hello from the playoff games in LA. :D

Mets won last night by two monster homers by Delgado. Apparently he wants to dent the whole stadium before they bring it down lol.

Beltran was clutch too.

Wilson has 2 bad games, Velez has 2 amazing games. What can I say?

And considering we play like 7 games against LAD in September... :D WE ARE ON FIRE!! XD

:D Hi their TS.

:grumpy:

I thought I would never say this...the D-Backs pitching officially stinks. :grumpy:

Doug Davis, the forgotten 5th man of our rotation is the only starter that has gone 6 innings in his last 3 starts. Everyone else (Petit, Webb, Haren, Johnson) have barely gone 4 innings in their last 3 starts and have given up a billion runs. Granted, Haren had a better outing today (4 innings and 1 earned run, but he walked 3 batters). But when the bullpen has to come out and do the bulk of game, things will, and have gotten ugly.

I find it unbelievable how a team, who are the defending division champions and have led the division since early April have suddenly lost 6 in a row, and 12 of their last 16. Including a sweep by the 2nd place team that was only back by 2.5 games and a sweep by a team who haven't even been close to the division leaders all season.

The offense has been stinking since the all-star break, Adam Dunn has barely done anything to the offense except draw walks, but when everyone else in the lineup strikes out it does nothing. I loved what Mark Grace said about the losing streak today; "The D-backs have had the NL West all but locked up, but now we've polished up the trophy and have handed it, on a silver platter to the Dodgers. Unbelievable."

Well, one team's going to the Postseason...

...the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (clinches AL West)

All that had to happen was the Seattle Mariners disposing of the Texas Rangers. So one down, five to go. Statistically, clinching very early hasn't resulted in much postseason success unless you're the 1998 New York Yankees.

A crucial issue here in Houston is the path of Hurricane Ike. What was proposed was that our weekend series with the Cubs would start Friday afternoon as opposed to the usual Friday night game. We won our game against the Pirates today, but we're still about four games back since the Brewers won their game. We won 7-4 with Valverde getting another save. Meanwhile, the Cubs took care of the Cardinals at NEW Busch Stadium 4-3. This is going to be a crucial series even with Hurricane Ike making its way to the upper Texas coast.

I'm still concerned about the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL West. It seems like Arizona was ahead for a good number of games against the Dodgers. But nowadays, the Dodgers are ahead by about 3.5 or 4.5 games from the D-Backs. What's up with Arizona lately?

3.5....

They got bit by the Giants bug :D

John I don't know but you can check out anyteams past, stats, league leaders, scores or anything really at MLB.com

We swept the Pittsburgh Pirates in our four-game set. Up next for us is a weekend series against the Cubs. And even though we play at a retractable roof sporting arena, this series is going to have to be postponed. This is going to be a rough time in my city. The Brewers lost. This Hurricane Ike deal is a bad one because this will kill our momentum as we're trying to play for postseason action.

I think last night, PTI had an Odds Makers segment on if the Astros will make the playoffs. I think Tony Kornheiser gave us an 18% chance of making the postseason. Meanwhile, beloved Cubs fan, Michael Wilbon, gave us a 0% percent chance. That must be the rule on ESPN- NEVER give Houston or most Texas teams ANY chance. Still more people to shut up. Wilbon did have a statistical look at our attempt to make the postseason.

Now if you'll excuse me, I hope to avoid this storm as best as I can. My prayers for all people having to deal with Ike.

Yeah, get out safely John, Ike looks to be Katrina 2.0.

I'll carry on this thread by saying that if the D-Backs don't win 2 of 3 against the Reds, we can kiss our hopes of making the playoffs goodbye. LA has been playing great baseball since the ManRam trade, and it seems that the D-backs have forgotten how to play these last 2 weeks. Hopefully the home cookin' will cheer 'em up. :)

I want first start out with saying Congratulations to Tim Lincincum for his first complete game, and it was a shutout. 7-0 over the Padres. All 9 innings, 3 walks, 4 hits, 0 runs, 12 strikeouts, leads majors with 237, thats 12 more then Sabathia. He is now 17-3 which would be 23-3 if it wasn't for 6 blown saves by are dumb relievers.

Giants also went on today and won 8-6 winning 3/4 against San Diego. Also Giants are 3rd in the Majors in runs scored. Compared to where we were earlier thats awesome.

D-Backs did the total opposite of what they needed to do to get back into the pennant race. They needed to win at least 2 of 3 against the Reds, and they lost 2 of 3 against them. Both losses came in extra innings and those games were forced into extras by our struggling bullpen.

Enough about my team, but how about the others? The Cubs were in Milwaukee, not facing the Brewers in a NL Central division rivalry, but John's Astros. The Astros were forced from their home ball park in Houston because of the hurricane and the games were moved to Milwaukee, and in the 2nd game of the double-header, the "Big-Z", Carlos Zambrano threw the first Cubs complete game no-hitter since 1972, and the first no-hitter in a "neutral" site.

As if things couldn't get worse for Milwaukee after getting swept by the Phillies, their manager, Ned Yost was fired today. The Brewers and Phillies are tied for the NL Wild Card after that series.
