Not discounting the miracles, they're probably the hottest team at the moment, but I'd rather have us face the likes of Lindor & Alonso rather than Ohtani/Betts/Freeman/Muncy/Glasnow/etc. Plus basically playing at home vs a long crosscountry trip. The Padres would probably be the best matchup but other than the Soto angle it's just a bit boring.

Still have to get past whoever wins the Central showdown. Happy that they've gone to game 5 and so the Tigers have to use up Skubal. Would rule him out for the first 2 games of the ALCS. Any lefty causes trouble for the Yankee lineup this year, let alone the Cy Young favourite.

Glasnow is done for the year. Same as Kershaw. Dodgers pitching has been ravaged by injuries and aside from Flaherty and Yamamoto, don't have any other reliable options. Their hitting? Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Smith and Hernandez are the big threats and I'd be more worried about their RP but the risk you run with having dominant relievers come in too much is that they burn out quicker. They are a dangerous team but they are not unbeatable. San Diego is more well rounded with slightly less hitting and better pitching. The Mets have a consistent, but not otherworldly, rotation, decent hitting and a shaky bullpen.

From the Yankees perspective, the one thing the Mets have is a very strong track record against Gerrit Cole. Cole has a 6.99 ERA against the Mets in 9 starts (2 of them this year) and that's not really going to instill confidence if your ace has struggled a lot against your opponent.

Admittedly doesn’t improve the stats much if at all but half of those starts were in his Pirates days, and he’s a completely different style of pitcher now. He’s homer prone, just have to hope it’s a good cold evening with the wind blowing in. I’m actually more worried about the rest of the pitching, Rodon in particular (who’s been good vs the Mets in a small sample).

In the end there’s no ideal matchup but a Subway Series would be really good entertainment, whoever wins.

New York Mets, meet your 2024 NLCS opponents-

the Los Angles Dodgers!

LAD took the LAD/SD series 3-2 with a 2-0 tonight in Rancho Cucamonga. Methinks we got two glamour cities to determine the NL half of the 2024 World Series, yes? Its New York City against Los Angeles.

Congratulations to the Dodgers, and great season to the San Diego Padres.

The Cleveland Guardians advance to the ALCS, and Joey D's Detroit Tigers are DONE. Cleveland won 7-3 in the pivotal Game 5 of this ALDS series. Now the boys from Cleveland will meet some boys in blue and white that wear pinstripes. That's right- Yankees vs. Guardians 2024 ALCS.

All congratulations to the Detroit Tigers on a fine 2024 season.

Man the Tigers almost had it. Now imagine if Illitch opens his checkbox and they bring in some free agents. If this team can make it this far on AAA talent, imagine what they can do with some MLB level talent.

33 straight scoreless innings by the Dodgers now. They easily handled the Mets in game 1 of the NLCS. New York really needs to step up tonight against the Dodgers bullpen.

The biggest issue the Mets have had all year is giving up free passes. This is one thing you cannot do against teams like the Dodgers. Senga was both ineffective and he might be hurt. They need Manaea to give them 6 to 7 innings and the offense needs to wake up, or there will be a 1988-style repeat of the NLCS.

I didn’t like the Rodon signing/contract for the Yankees and he’s been a disappointment the first 2 years, but a big performance in game 1 makes up for a lot of it.

Good pitching from him and the bullpen, dingers from Soto and Big G, a very nice night. Cole on normal rest now for game 2, a big opportunity to really seize control of this series.

Well done to the Mets as well, taking game 2 vs the Dodgers. Hopefully that series goes all the way to game 7, whoever wins.

Hopefully the Yankee bats wake up especially Aaron Judge because they are going to be needed at some point. Good win by both NY teams and I'm glad to Rodon have a good game.

When I was checking my Facebook Memories, I noted that today was when the Houston Astros defeated the Seattle Mariners in the 2022 ALDS. On this day in 2022, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners played to seventeen innings of scoreless baseball. That's right- 17 scoreless. That was until Jeremy Peña hit a solo homer in the Top of the 18th. That would be the final score as we swept the Mariners in the 2022 ALDS. We'd then sweep the Yankees, and then defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in 6 games to be the 2022 World Series Champions. I'm sure my beloved Houston Astros would love for their postseason to continue. Sadly, the baseball deities thought otherwise.

Glad to see Judge had a better game and hit a homer. Hopefully he can improve his hitting with the runners in scoring position. Hopefully the Mets can win their next game

Mets win?

sad new york mets GIF

Not against this guy.

Happy Los Angeles GIF by MLB

The Mets and Dodgers refuse to play close games. 9-0 LA, 7-3 NYM & 8-0 LA. So if I would hazard a guess I think it will 8-3 NYM.

Really good game 3 between the Yankees and Guardians. Judge and Stanton smashed the G’s closer for a couple of clutch bombs. Unfortunately they returned the favour and walked it off.

Over in the NL the Mets are sadly once more the Mets.

I went to the NY Post Sports page and they had a headline about the Yankees collapsing and that it would bring back memories of 2004. I think that is a tad too much hyperbole. Needless to say I didn't read the article. They are still up 2-1 and I think they will win the series as for the Mets I dunno. The games have not been close at all. We'll see what happens

Well, kjb, when ESPN's "Pardon the Interruption" made reference to that in 2004 yesterday, the Yankees were up 3-0 in the ALCS before being reverse swept by the Red Sox. The Red Sox later won the World Series for the first time in 80+ years around that time. Anything can happen. That's why we say, "you can't script October."

I get that anything is possible but to me it's a little early for that. But gotta them eyeballs

Glad to see the Yankees pull out another win. It very close and they can't keep letting the Guardians back in games. They need to put the game it if reach. Judge needs to produce more. The Mets -Dodgers series continues to very one sided. I can't say this confidentially about the Mets they get their teeth kicked in and keep fighting. Hopefully they can win 2 more games

Regular season OPS for the Yankees - .806

Postseason OPS - 1.011

October G is a scary dude

It’s been a long 15 years, with some heartbreaking losses, but the Yankees are back in the World Series!

Soto/Stanton - what a monstrous pair of mashers.

I still think, barring injury, the Dodgers are in better shape to win the World Series than the Yankees even if they need 7 to defeat the Mets (who might be stronger than any team the Yankees faced this postseason). I'd take the Yankees over the Mets if I were betting (I'm not).

Your 2024 World Series is set! It's the New York Yankees vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. Who will be the new Champions of Major League Baseball this season? Find out starting this Friday!

Going to be a long week waiting for game 1. First WS matchup between these 2 giants in my lifetime.

Schedule isn’t kind to someone in the UK, I’ll miss the games in New York so hopefully this goes at least 6 so I can watch the Yankees celebration live.

Quite funny that the Yankees are the lower-payroll, home grown team in this one, vs the massive FA spending of LA. The whole NYY lineup is either drafted or acquired by trading prospects, plus half the rotation. Only big FAs are Cole and Rodon.

It’s been so long since our last winning parade, the kid circled - that’s our current shortstop

Soto, Rizzo, Chisholm, Verdugo were all acquired via trade. Dodgers are 100% the more "bought" team.

Aaron Judge vs the Dodgers: 10 GP, 8 HR, 11 RBI, 2 2B, .389/.463/1.111, 1.575 OPS.
Yeah, he's about to break out of his slump. Perfect matchup.

I hope so. They will need him. I feel the Yankees are going to have to be able to score a lot to win the chip.
