Race #1: 2 laps @ Nürburgring Type V // Retro (damage light, 1 pit stop)
Race #2: 13 laps @ Midfield Raceway // Historic (damage heavy, 1 pit stop)
Race #3: 17 laps @ Grand Valley East Reverse // Classics (damage heavy, 1 pit stop)

Note on the Classics parity assignment! Since there's only 11 cars on that list, and our parity rankings range from 4 to 14, subtract 3 from your ranking to get your parity car assignment for the Classics list.

I'll be there today!

Great selection of races and some fine conclusion of Series 2.👍

It's a tough decision though due to simultaneous football on TV:

it's Champions League today, quarter finals, rematch - Bayern Munich vs. FC Porto. Porto has won the 1st leg 3:1 so Bayern has to come back. It could get very thrilling. Kick-off will be at 8:45 pm CEST.
Sooo ..... I hope we won't have technical issues and maybe we will be finished around 10:00 pm CEST so I can watch the crucial last 30 min of the match plus potential extra-time.💡

This is my plan for today!

This makes 4 of us today already!:)

So we should do the event today at the usual time. 👍

Maybe guys who haven't voiced yet (I think of @John Wells, @snowgt, @temuster, @Goetz, ...) may be available too.

I hope PD has eliminated those bugging network issues today.:odd:
It was really weird yesterday. I was doing some tests for the event in my own TT club and the menu was so slow, massive loading times. Later when I wanted to join the community to enter the event the connection to server was impossible. This was the first time I had such problems and I guess it could be because of the GT Academy launch, but that's just a suspicion.

Btw (off-topic): are u guys doing GT Academy? I tried about 1 hour yesterday and got down to 2:10:0xx. But there's way to improve for me, probably about 1-2 seconds. A lot people don't like Silverstone but I think it's fun, really challenging to find the fastest line.👍

It's a shame that our Canadian fellows like @LongbowX are barred from GT Academy. :ouch:

Might be around tonight.

As they have snubbed us Austrians again this year, I won't be investing too much time in getting the best possible times. I think I did a 2:09 flat after 2 or 3 laps and let it be then. Best times were 4 seconds better and that is astonishingly good. Probably takes a lot of short-cutting just the right amount over the curbs. There's lots of time in that. I would expect with the right amount of effort I'd probably get a 2:07 or so, but what for? I'll just take the 1 million credits per round and leave it at that.

After letting it slide for two weeks, i updated the parity rating. :dunce: So please check your current parity assignment. :)

If most of you can't attend on Tuesday, maybe we should shift the Tuesday series to Wednesday?

And there I was already planning to annihilate the opposition with my temporary "6" rating. No such luck!

Wednesday is also gradually better than Tuesday for me.

Ahh, i see your plan with the City Turbo II a.k.a. Weapon of Mass Destruction. ;) But at least you are spared 13 laps of buzz saw sound in the del Sol.

@Patrick8308 I feel badly for other Canadians (and all the nations who aren't eligible) who won't get to compete. I've never taken GTAcademy seriously, it doesn't really interest me.

I also didn't take it seriously, until I saw during the last time Austria was included, that I had a realistic chance to qualify for the national finals. Or, actually, I didn't take it seriously even then, but I put in a little effort (maybe 10-15 hours total) and thought it was fun to get there and take part in it. To be honest, the cut-off was much lower than in bigger countries - I would have never qualified in Germany, Spain, UK, etc. I knew I realistically didn't have a chance to get to the European finals (I'm way too old and there's a fitness test... ), but it was something you don't get to do every day. (like throwing a 370Z around a bit on a handling course without having to think too much of the consequences :sly:)

Aw, and here I was anticipating an easy romp to the flag with my inflated '8' rating. I figured I'd drop back to a 7 once you updated the ratings, though, so I had done a little practice in the #7 cars as well. ;3

At least now I won't die a fiery death in the AC 427.

If most of you can't attend on Tuesday, maybe we should shift the Tuesday series to Wednesday?

I'd be happy to accomodate that; my schedule is quite flexible, so whatever works for the most people works for me. 👍

Room will be up in about 15 minutes. Event done, good racing.

Yeah, finally I have the opportunity to choose a combo.

Here's my choice:

90s Sports @ Deep Forest Reverse

My date wish:

Please don't use this combo next week as I wouldn't be able to attend.
So I wish to include it in the event on May 5th or 6th.

So it seems there's a tendency to change the Tuesday Series into a Wednesday Series. I'm fine with that.👍
I'd suggest we should pick the day which fits best in the schedule of most racers to get a field as big as possible.

Yesterday races have been fun but I'm not happy with my performance. :odd: :indiff:

Race 1 with the Retro cars at the Ring was really cool. I couldn't keep up with @tarnheld 's pace on lap 1 but managed to stay in 2nd position for a while. Somehow I felt a bit like Valteri Bottas keeping Sebastian Vettel behind me. But then I did a mistake at Breitscheid and had to let @snowgt , @amarynceos pass. Another fault gave @LongbowX the chance to overtake. :ouch: 2nd lap I followed him all time but messed it up couple of times which left me too far away on Döttinger Höhe and I couldn't profit from the better top speed of my Silvia. :indiff:

Race 2 at Midfield in the Historics was fun too. Sadly I was too aggresive when braking into the righthander before the gallery on lap 3. I pushed @amarynceos in the wall and had to pit with him after the lap. :guilty: The field was quite burst open from that time on and it was all about hotlapping. I ruined my race finally when I crashed into the guardrail at the exit of the long lefthander after the gallery. This guardrail there is tricky as there is this displacement closer to the track at the exit of that turn. First I decided to stay out but after another whole lap with the right front wheel broken I decided to pit another time. After that I managed to catch @John Wells on lap 12 but @LongbowX was not reachable till finish. @tarnheld and @snowgt had an impressive pace in front.

Race 3 on my loved track GVER in the Classics was strange. :odd: The 512 BB '76 is one fine Ferrari, oversteer controlable to a certain point. But heavy damgae was my ruin in that race. :ill: I crashed into the wall as I took the lefthander into the tunnel a bit too fast. I was able to overtake @John Wells and @LongbowX who both seemed to be struggeling with the handling of their cars. But then I was too late on the brakes turn 1/2 and crashed there again. On my 2nd pitsop I decided to try SH front, SM rear. 💡 This was the better combination for me. The car didn't slide so much anymore and tire wear was better even on the rears. I was able to do consistant laps but only gained 1 more position.

Unfortuantely I have other real life plans for friday already and can't attend the track day. :( So my race week is over already. But I'm lookin forward to see you all in 2 weeks again, hopefully with my prize pick included.

Have fun racing guys!

Oh, almost forgot it:

I managed to do a 2:09,2xx at GT Academy 1st round so far. I will try to achieve a 2:08 today which should be possible if I get a clean lap.

I'm also competing. Or... I'm trying. The Nismo GT-R isn't too good at anything more than going straight very fast. Also, I'm only using a standard controller. Anyway, I spent a couple hours both on Tuesday and last night. My best lap so far is 2:09.690. I don't see any room for improvement in the way I take the first three corners. There's definitely a faster line I could be taking through the horseshoe corner, and then the second corner after that, where you have to drop down to third gear, and there's a wall on the inside, so you're kinda stuck diving in blind. It might be possible to take in fourth gear if I could just find the right line. There's also not much around to use as a visual reference for a brake point, either. I hate that corner so much.

Great parity event, nice combo selection from @amarynceos! 👍

The Ring was thrilling as usual, managed to do the first lap without major faults, but misbraking after Klostertal and kleines Karussell in the second lap brought me down to 3rd.
The RX-7 Savannah and Midfield were made for each other, so i could match @snowgt's pace without pushing the car to it's limits and fearing its wrath when pushed too hard. Overtaking him was a much harder task, never got the corner exit right to have that extra speed. But chasing is a lot easier on the nerves than being chased so i waited for the right moment. It came in the last lap, first corner. :D That's why i like parity, you get cars were racing novices like me can engage in battle with the aliens, so it's up to you to keep it cool and learn the racecraft. :)
The 365 GTB4 @ GVER was embarrassingly fast, but i lost focus and spun a few times.

My prize picks are:

Limbo Stick @ Silverstone Stowe
Historic @ Tsukuba

I'm done with Round 1 of GT Academy! 👍 Mission accomplished! :D

My goal was to achieve a 2:08 lap and I finally did it: 2:08,809.

I'm pretty satisfied with this lap, the 1st and 3rd sector have been quite well, there's maybe another 0,5-0,7 s potential in 2nd sector but 2:07 might be unreachable for me. You guys sure know this feeling of satisfaction and happiness after reaching a goal. ;) I can tell it made me scream out a loud "YES" ! Actually this is the reason why I'm doing GT Academy, this joy of pushing the limit further and further.

As always I was doing it with my DS3 controller, steering: D-Pad, throttle: X, brake: [], automatic transmission.

I tried manual transmission (L2, R2) but this kept me away from focusing the perfect line. With a steering wheel as a controller this might work better as you probably have this real driving feeling. But with the DS3 manual shifting feels strange in my opinion. There might be some effort in slower or oversteering cars but I guess in a powerful 4WD like this GTR the general disadvantage of automatic transmission seems rather low.

I really like Silverstone Circuit since GT Academy 2013 where it was introduced to Gran Turismo. 👍 It has a wonderful fast flow, it's pretty wide and allows great online racing battles. But it's also really tricky when it comes to getting the turns perfect and reaching fast lap times. Therefor it's pretty much of a challenge, but a fun one. :)

There's a lot crucial turns:

T 4 "Loop", T 7 "Luffield" aka the horseshoe, T 9 "Copse" (the one with the wall on the inside), T 11 "Maggots" + T13 "Becketts", T 15 "Stowe"

There's probably about 0,5 s potential in every of these turns. It's really tough to get a perfect line in those turns I think. And then for a fast lap you have to take all of them as good as possible which makes it so challenging. :scared:

But enough now with this off-topic stuff! :gtpflag:
