"The C24 features sidepods with an extremely narrow bottom section – a design feature great for improving airflow management and downforce, but not so great for engine cooling (and hence reliability). The answer? Innovative V-shaped radiators, allowing for reduced sidepod height and excellent cooling – so good in fact that no further gills have been added for the very hot Malaysian race."

So to me, it looks like they ensured that all the air that flows into the side pods hits the radiators and that no air just flows around or past the radiators and is then lost.

Sauber are not the only team to not be running extra gills in Malaysian. If anyone else noticed (or in my case heard the SPEED guys say something), McLaren is also not running any extra gills.

Appearantly Webber has gearbox/engine problems. If he's unlucky they will have to replace the engine wich will set him back 10 places on the starting grid on Sunday.
As for as I know it's only gearbox and isn't terminal, so he should be fine on his current engine.

!!!!!NEWS!!!!!

Sato has got a fever and will not be competing in this weekend race, he will be replaced by Anthony Davidson.

And I put Davidson as my 3rd driver in GG's FF1, but I did it yesterday so if he gets points it won't help :(

Saturday Practice 2 - Results

These times are nuts, considering last pole time was 1:33.074, well done FIA, you're really slowing times ...

Saturday Qualifying

Another good performance by Trulli, hopefully he can keep it up during the race.

And I'll sound really unbiased here but I like where the red cars are :). Curious as to why they're so slow though, they showed signs of being competetive in other sessions.

Blake

Nice to see the red cars down the bottom. I thought montoya would've been right up there with kimi but i suppose he's not that far off. Looks like the red bull's are midfield and they are competitive but it will be hard to tell until tomorrow. Today's quali is done on any fuel load isn't it?

You know the first qualifying session almost kinda resembles Australias; but at the same time, not really.

Well the Renaults are fast yet again, along with the Toyotas. The Toyotas performance is kinda surprising. Maybe this is their race to finally show something.

And yes the first qualifying session is done on any fuel load.

The problem that the Toyota's have and this may be a reason why they are so quick in qualifying is that they wear out their tires rather quickly during a race.Remember in Melbourne when Trulli was in 2nd during the first part of the race and the next thing you know he is in 10th.That's because his tires were worn out and the team decided that it would cost too much time if he was to make a pitstop so they told him to stay out and we all saw what happened. He was very slow afterwards.

I fear that that may happen again in Sepang.

But Trulli tends to drop off after the first pit stop anyway, he gets bored.

Dang, I am going to have to watch the replay. I missed the majority of the first half of the race because I was playing poker and other card games with some friends.

J.Villenuve
J.Button
A.Davidson
P.Friesacher

Interesting how both the BARS blew up within the early stages of the race, just like the old days. Shame that Kimi had a tyre blowout because he could've been right up there. Apparently Rubens retired because his tyres had absouletly no grip! maybe he was on the softer option than michael. Gee aren't Renault looking good though?

Blake you can still post the results because yours is likely to be more detailed than mine :)

Rubens retired because he decided it was too dangerous to continue. His rear wheels had practically no grooves whatsoever. Neither did Micheal's, but he's a little balsier. I like how Heidfeld made podium, though. Nice to see that for BMW, I hope he continues to do well.

OMG man! I really DO LOVE ALONSO!!!!!

and I'm male though :dopey:

Now seriously - I've heard that one of Ferrari's bosses (I don't remember who) said that Fernando is the best driver just now, and they're looking for him for the next season - So, Alonso may be Ferrari soon, buuuut... I prefer him as a World Champion with RENAULT.

PD: I guess that in Bahrein we will see if Ferrari will overtake the pace again, but anyway this is the season of Renault.

well done Nick heidfeld, ever since his record lap at goodwood he should have been in a good car now he has one.

And why did brundle say JV crashed cos of a 'tank slapper' tank slappers happen when a vehicle wheelies and then the handlebars/steering goes haywire. ive never seen a F1 car doa wheelie

Just remember that Ferarri is still on the F2004 car-- they've yet to get the new one. When that happens who knows how the tables may turn.

It was a good race overall.Bad luck for Kimi and Mark, nothing they could do about it.Heidfeld did a good job on getting on the podium.

Ferrari will have to switch to their new car pretty soon, they are outpaced by almost everyone except for the Jordans. However i don't think that when they switch to their new car that they will dominate,Renault looks really good and as do a few other teams like Toyota.

still in utter amazement that ferrari is this far off the pace. renault obviously is looking like the team to beat this year. althought i really think mclaren is going to be a tough out this year, kimi has had terrible luck in both races and JPM has had his fair share of troubles aswell. atleast we can all be happy its not looking like a ferrari blowout again this year.

ferraris problem isnt the car its the tyres, remember its bridgestones last season in F1

Good race, too bad that Barrichello couldn´t finish it. This year seems it will be fun to watch the races again. :)

Raikkonen could of won imo, as I was watching the lap times closely too online, while watching on TV, and Kimi was lapping around 1-2secs faster than Alonso at the end, so, he may of been able to take it if his tyre never blew.

Barichello came in because he wasn't in the points and his tyres were bald, if he was in the points he would of kept going.

Ferraris are off the pace due to the other 2 teams using the Bridestones not relaying enough info back to Bridgestone for them to perfect their tyre. Ferrari are quite angry about this apparently.

I personally dislike Alonso, he has one of those faces you could just punch :P But you know, he did well, but wasn't an awesome drive at all

Montoya done well to get 4th at the end, shame he couldn't push into 3rd.

Man of the race: Kimi Raikkonen

I don't understand what was so bad about Ferrari's form given the conditions they encountered in first qualifying. Rubens from 11th to 2nd and Michael from 18th to 8th before his shunt with NH resulted in his retirement. My money is on the Scuderia for Sepang.
I lost my $! :ouch: Very lackluster performance from Ferrari. At least it seems this season will be more exciting than last year. More along the lines of 2003, or even better. Congrats to Alonso for the win. Toyota finally made something happen, but I knew it would happen sooner or later with Mike Gascoyne at the helm of the engineering team. I still have faith in my team to come out fighting and win some races and be right back in both title chases. Bring on the F2005! Forza! :)

jus watched the repeat just now, omg race was sik. unlucky for j.button :( i felt sorry for him an his team mate, oh well honda fix up lol good on alonzo

As I understand it a 'tank slapper' is motor-bike terminology (SP?) when a bike suffers oversteer at high speed and the rider attemps to correct it and causes the bike to fish tail his thighs slap against the bikes fuel tank hence 'tank slapper'.

So when a driver turns in to the slide to correct it and the car snaps back in the opposite direction Brundle and Allen will nearly always refer to this a a 'tank slapper' as they are both big biking enthusiasts (SP?)

Hope this explains the comment Sureshot :)

They were actually real slicks!

You aren't the only one to be surprised at Ferrari's slow pace. I thought Australia basically just came down to the bad qualifying weather, but was I wrong. Ferrari never really did a whole lot in this race, so things definitely look like they are going to be different this year.

Renault has been pretty dang good so far and they are looking awesome at the moment.

McLaren seems like they have had more than their fair of minor problems so far. Hopefully that will change and their potential performance will come out, its not like they haven't already shown it.

Being that it is Bridgestones last season isn't the problem. The fact is Bridgestone has only one team that gives useful data, while Michelin has many more is of great detriment to Bridgestone.

Well crap I missed the first half of the replay of the race! :ouch: It just seems that I cannot catch a break with the race at Malaysia.
