i remember the Mulsanne corner glitch at Le Mans and the scenery would drop about 1,000ft but it would go on and on and on and on forever almost..

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a mapping thread?

Does anyone have a version of this track which has been updated since March? I'm curious now, if there's a shortened layout.

I think the pits should be diagonal parking spaces in front of a pub in Zahara. Somewhere along that yellow highlighted area. Looks like they may need to model a feeder road back out to the main "track".

Eiger style pit lane you think?
Opposite; I'd rather see the race track itself being curvy there, and a straight pit lane...

Well, the whole point of my suggestion was to get the cars stopped near a drinking establishment...:sly:

Should've expected that... But, I'm a traditional type of guy... The alcohol only comes after - in the form of champagne or (more often) vodka.

I don't know, I just think PD is going to invent a road right next to a fairly straight bit somewhere to add a pit. Still hoping this track isn't a point to point. Honestly I still will enjoy the track if it is, but man do I want a circuit. And thankfully the name is Circuto de la Sierra so that should be a great omen. But I know something I really want to do is host online races for pre-80's sports cars at 450pp. Especially now that we have the driver numbers because when you put them on cars like the Alpine A110, Ferrari 246 Dino, Shelby Cobra, Mercedes 300SL, etc. they look very period correct and I'm hoping that 2-lap races with those cars will really create the feel of the Targa Florio, Mille Miglia type races. It still will work if its point-to-point, but I think 2 laps will be the prefect distance for a type of event like that. Targa Florio was an 11 lap race on a very long track, so I think 2-laps on a long Zahara circuit will be perfect for online. Hope I'm not the only one who tries to get those races started btw.

On the subject of pit lanes: I really, REALLY hope it has one, any track without a pit lane forfeits its chance to host any long races. I'd also be overjoyed if the track will duck off the highway and go through the town a bit, or, better yet, that there be multiple variations of the track, some with twisty, narrow town bits, and some without (like the difference between the Nordschleife, and the full Nurb24), or better yet, fully custo-
okay, I'll calm down now.

 This! I completely agree! I seriously want a mix-up of country/city variation! If it's all country roads, it can become mundane, if it's all city it will be too small. As a track maker location, we could pick parts of the areas we prefer most and omit others. So we could duck into the city for some technical racing mix-up to "sift out" the weaker competition and escape back to the high speed country roads with some breathing room.

Or, if you're trailing behind, a dip in the city could provide a great opportunity to gain ground if you can master the technical corners better than others, allowing you to be hot on the heels of your competition exiting the city/cities*!

Either way would be great, and as a track editor location, you could go for high speed, technicality, or both. Would be epic if it had a sandbox mode online as well, so we could drive, cruise, race the surrounding area freely. Set up instant drag races with someone parked on the road ahead a few notches, facing backwards, and flashing/toggling their highbeams :sly:, set up un-official point to points from one landmark to another (and back), ; i.e. a race from the windmills to Zahara, or a race from the lake to the end of the bridge and back, etc. Un-official high + low tiered mixed racing, i.e., 4 stock coupes, 4 lightly tuned high end exotics, 4 lightly tuned GT3 race cars, and 4 LMP cars all in one race simultaneously, with end results based on class/tier and enough laps to pan out the traffic. Groups could be divided into 4 teams with one member of each team representing each class, and the winning team would be decide via a points system... Wow... That would actually make an epic in-game game mode if they included it! But yeah, I digressed a lot. Variety and versatility in the track layout would/could go a loooong way. And if it's not a creator course, I hope there are at least 3 to 5 layouts (also in reverse)!

Also curious here how it turns out seeing i live in the region. Maybe even drove my trusty old Volvo there already without knowing it ;)

All i can say is that Andalucia has some of the most beautiful roads you can let your car be free on; blue skies, hills, olive trees and little white villages.

In the track database there was only version.
Of "Zahara", you mean? Is Ronda in the track database? We know Ronda is a pick your own course location, Kaz said so.

As far as I know (/ have been told), the course creator locations aren't referenced in the game at all, except for the skeletons of menu entries for the tool itself. It'd be interesting to see how the photo-mode locations are referenced, too.

We were told we'd get a pre-made track before the course-creator proper, anyway. That means PD could package up a "track container" for the database, and use the course creator location assets. Just like they package up the Ronda assets into a photo location container, assumedly...

Managed to get to the highest point of Goodwood, there's an invisible ceiling:

I wonder if Course Maker could use Google Maps?

That's what I'm wondering about the GPS feature - it would seem that it would take terrain into consideration. But what interests me more is the modern-day tech that goes into complex map generation like Minecraft and a similar PC zombie title called "7 days to die" - obviously hills are created, but so are more complex features, like mountains, cliffs, chasms, caves, and fissures, but most importantly, houses with varying parameters. I'm wondering if what's taking PD so long is the sheer complexity of custom-asset generation, allowing for super realistic track-side scenery, run-off areas, and city routes (sidewalks, lamp posts, etc.), perhaps even bridges and tunnels that can conform to any geography. In fact... I could see this applied to terrain maps being generated off of real world data. And these maps could leave in existing roads, or leave the terrain barren for absolute customization... I need to stop thinking, I might hurt myself...

...But a lot of this tech already exists alone in some game or piece of software, it just hasn't all been combined in this fashion or necessarily for this purpose... But dreaming here is dangerous...

I don't want to set expectations for something that we still know so little about, but DAMN this thing has had me excited for a long time.

Hmmm.... It's only 35km by road from Zahara de la Sierra to Ronda (and the route between the two uses a fair bit of the lakeside highway that the upcoming track is going to be set on), so could that whole area potentially be one big course maker location? Perhaps we'll see a fair few more tracks in this region. I've been itching to drive around Ronda for ages, it would be like Citta di Aria but with even prettier scenery.

This is what I've been thinking since people started talking about the distance between Ronda and Zahara. Remember this was supposed to be 100x100km area. My guess is this entire area was going to be the course maker. We will have to wait and see what the final result is. Not too long now hopefully!

Server just went down for maint., so we may be about to get it.

I hope yes but I dont think so... Tonight its just weekly server maintenance BUT there was some times we received an update also.

But I dont expect nothing until near the mid of the month. Maybe they will save it for Gamescom?

I don't think they do them weekly anymore, but I could be wrong obviously.
