Nice! :D What a great start to the series! 👍

A lovely selection of tracks and race distances, I'm sure tyre wear is going to become a factor in a few of these races, so a more conservative racing style might come into play! :sly:

Just to verify, we're running with the top "closed" versus 5 AI cars, right?
AI difficult setting is up to us? Correct?

Yes top closed I will add that to the rules. And I am going to limit the AI difficulty to atleast 7 because some people were setting it all the way down so that they didn't have to actually "race" they were just driving. If anyone is having problems running the AI difficulty set to 7 tell me and we might be able to work something out.

Can I join? Or is it too late? Which MX-5 is it or does it matter?

Looking at Nick replay I'm guessing we can use any miata. I'll do some warmups until I hear back from the race mod. Can we change the AI tires to comforts if we want or do they have to be SM's too?

Cool, thx hopefully this will help me against Nick's killer consistency at SFGTPIV 👍

OOOO hooo- ready!!!
welcome Jump_Ace & EDK  GL to all

can we post T splits (not full lap splits) from our fastest lap to gauge how we are doing?

Did my first two runs last night...
The first sesion @ +7 setting I came in 2nd place 5 seconds behind first place
on my 2nd run I was about 9 sec ahead of 2nd place.

One of my fastest lap yield a (x'xx'.xxx) I was not sure what are we posting? or maybe like Jump_Ace said T-splits?

Another run tonight @ +8 even better laps :) 10sec. off my previous runs ^^

*Waiting impatiently for days on a response to the question about posting splits* And congrats on the progress raz, you'll find the more laps you have to do in a race, the easier it is to initially trim time.....initially.

:dunce:

This car is fun though. Turn off all the aids and you can get some nice long drifts with the smooth way the rear end slides out.

This is a very fun combo, although frustrating with the AI in the way, and no clear rules on what we can/cannot discuss as far as split-times goes and the type of tyres we can run the AI on.

I've just run with AI +7 on SM tyres (for me & the AI) and found a great lineup to go against (Has no 4WDs in it!! ;)). Came in 1st by 11s or so. 👍
I'm assuming that since the penalty system is turned on, we can get away with wall grazes and AI touches as long as we keep 2 wheels on the track at all times?
I had one or 2 brushes with the car that was running in 1st place at turns 7a & 8, but nothing significant enough to trigger the penalty system. I'm guessing it's pretty damned difficult to drive a 100% clean race here and that's why the penalties are enabled, since it stops deliberate ramming of AI cars to gain places?

It'd be nice if Green_Flag would clarify a few of these things for us before we get too close to the race deadline.

Smallhorses, I agree with you...but i would like to add something...

What if one of the AI cars snaps you from the back (which i'm sure happened with all off us) and through you off track, all 4 wheels on the grass...i believe since we are applying racing rules you should give advantage to that AI car and let it pass, same thing also if you were taking a curve and slide out!!!:odd:

Awesomeness! Just had another run against the same lineup.
My fastest lap lost 0.7s & I gained 5s overall! :D
As far as consistency goes, I had 2 consecutive laps that were within 0.003s of one another! :scared:
Think this'll do me for this combo, I'll submit my time on Sunday though! 👍

Well I tried + 9 last night very frustrating :indiff:
Always got punted onto the grass right about the 5th lap, never finished.
I think I'll stay on +8 and submit.
How is everyone else doing? Green_Flag must be swamped with school work!??

I may give this another go tonight, there's another 1.2 seconds I think I may be able to get, given I don't stuff one of the other laps, haha.

I've run 2 complete races this morning. Both have 1 AI side glance that did not result in my gaining a position. Both also have one incident in which an AI car ran into the back of my car at the end of the main straight as I start to head into the uphill left sweeper. I was not blocking or changing line, just driving.

Both are also within a second of each other on total time. :indiff:

So, question on contact. Is it allowed, and the speed limiter penalty is intended to discourage or prevent?

I am still going to shoot for zero contact, but the AI is pretty stupid at times. :ouch:

I'll put my splits up tomorrow when I have a chance to pull my replay. Need to get ready to head out right now. 👍

Oh, and this is fun. :dopey:

I too would like clarification on that, I was assuming that if there is very minor bumping and there is no penalty, then its clean??? Thanks in advance Green_Flag.

With the AI level set as high as it is, AI bumping is almost inevitable, and hence I believe there's no restriction on AI contact but the penalty system is enabled to penalise heavy-handed contacts with AI or barriers. There's been no stipulation that you should restart a race even if you're awarded a 10s penalty, but the slowing down from the speed restrictor will seriously hamper your chances of putting in a quick time, and therefore most folks, I'm assuming, would try again.
It does leave the door open to gently easing the AI cars off the track and using the AI cars as turning assists if you get inside them on a bend, but I for one won't be taking advantage of that sort of thing.
There's really very little to be done about the AI bumping you from behind either, it's an accepted fact that they're just blind to the fact that you're in front of them if they happen to be travelling faster than you! :dunce: It seems harsh to penalise this sort of contact, as frustrating as it is, otherwise one has to drive with one eye on the rear view mirror, and make concious efforts to get out of the AI's way, often by sacrificing optimal racing lines to do it! :grumpy:

This still leaves a lot of "Gray_Areas" that Green_Flag needs to clarify or we may end up with a situation where his entry is the only one that counts and he wins by default, since he's the only one who knows the rules! :ouch:

I intend to submit what I've got already, only 1 AI contact when the AI turns into me when I'm alongside and on the inside line for turn 7. I'm hoping that's OK, but the rules are as clear as Guinness at the moment.

My fastest lap splits are 23.9x and 1:13.1x, but that is between all the times I've tried not just in my fastest overall run. I typically find I'm around 1:13.4x at T2.

Wow! This'll be a close run thing....:scared:
Splits from my best lap from the race I'm submitting are 23.9x and 1'13.0x, but again I'm typically in the 1'13.1x - 1'13.5x range at T2. 👍
I'm guessing this is going to come down to who got the most amenable AI lineup for passing easily, and how many laps you get to do in clean air.

Argh only just seen this thread, though 11pm Eastern Time will pretty much allow me to submit with time to spare as long as I do the race in the morning.

Looks like good fun though definitely 👍
