Mazda sticks with rotary power

If Mazda is making a rotary sports car, they certainly have the opportunity to do a "reboot" sports car right. Please, no Hybrid stuff hooked up to an 8 or 10 speed automatic. Just a rotary hooked up to a 6 speed manual driving the rear wheels. Make it a step above the Miata. One can dream.

A hybrid rotary (paired to a choice of manual or auto) would be brilliant.

Well, for those that don't play Gran Turismo or haven't seen the gtplanet news:
a Trackside Talk with Mazda and Kazunori Yamauchi where we will be revealing a sketch of the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT that will appear at the FIA GT Championships from the 2020 Series.

Wait so there will be a real rotary powered race car? Or just for GT Sport?
As posted above, it'll be interesting to find out how it's powered to GT3 specs(other than, obviously, a rotary). Toyota saw fit to base their virtual Supra Gr.3 car to GTE/LM regulations. Hopefully, we find out why they went with GT3, rather than GTE, as they currently run the RT24s in the IMSA program.

The render doesn't look too bad. The current Mazda lineup, do look like cars from Italy.

Oh look, another render that more then likely not even close to what a future model might look like.

Probably the worst looking one I've seen yet honestly and in this case, doesn't even remotely look close to a Mazda design. "We can sure dream" too bad that doesn't seem to translate to something that looks remotely good.

Yeah Enoch Gonzales renders are an absolute no.
Enoch Gonzales? You mean.... The Mexican Scotman is a real guy?
Anyway. another render from another hold out. I really still dont see Mazda coming out with another RX model. And every year that passes makes it that much more unlikely we will see one.

I dunno. Mazda seem to be taking the virtual Gr.3 RX-VisionVGT seriously. Sure, don't need to spend billions for R&D, but I think an RX will come. Whether it's traditional like an SA22/FC3S/FD3S or like an RX-8, we'll see.

If there is an RX model coming anytime soon, Mazda has the opportunity to make it a competitor with the Supra. And you can call me old fashioned or something, but I would buy one in a heartbeat if it had a real 3 pedal manual. With a manual they have a chance to draw back the fanboys who wanted the new Supra to have a manual.

Do you reckon thats how mazda designs new cars? Just makes a quick sketch of the old model without a reference image so it looks slightly different then sticks on LEDs and off-brand diamondcut alloys and calls it a day.

I have grown to absolutely hate the clickbait, pointless, hideous renders these companies propagate. Its just so meaningless, and the only attention they ever get is from people who dont know any better or people making fun of how ugly they are.

/dumb rant.

As much as I love the rotary, I would rather see Mazda build a piston-engined sports car than endlessly fail to build a rotary sports car. And if that ICE is an inline 6 coupled to a manual transmission...than I am absolutely down to clown.

Considering the future of the automobile, if Mazda gives us one last Harrah for the Rotary, I'd welcome it with open arms.

Do it Mazda.

Could it be?

"Mazda under development Super sports "RX-9" will be released in 2023? Will an open model also appear?"
.
New information has been added regarding the super sports car "RX-9", which is a commercial model of the concept car "RX-VISION" announced by Mazda in 2015.
.
We are developing it with the goal of launching it in 2023, and it seems that we are currently improving the fuel efficiency of the rotary engine, which boasts an output of 550 horsepower or more.
.
It was reported that the rotary engine installed in the RX-9 was prototyped as an engine that will generate 500 horsepower in 2019 and 630 horsepower in 2021.
.
However, this engine has problems with fuel efficiency and abnormal noise, and it seems that it is currently working on solving those problems.
.
The prototype rotary engine has a fuel consumption of around 8 kg per liter, which is a good number among sports cars equipped with the rotary engine in the past. However, the development team has set a fuel efficiency target of RX-8 or higher, and it is said that the current numerical value is "too bad fuel efficiency" and is targeted for improvement.
.
There is also the problem of unpleasant noise when a high load is applied, which is also being improved.
.
The RX-9 follows the design of the RX-VISION, but with some changes when it is put on the market.
.
The RX-VISION was equipped with a spoiler that was placed so as to cover the tail light, but the RX-9 seems to be equipped with a dolphin type rear spoiler such as the 3rd generation RX-7 (FD3S).
.
In addition, although it seems that it is still under consideration at this stage, it seems that it is also considering the release of an open model. The 2nd generation RX-7 (FC3S) sold a fully open cabriolet, but the RX-9 is expected to be the Targa top type.
.
The RX-9 will have a very high output, but officials have revealed that this is Mazda's last pure sports car.
.
The rotary engine that has colored the history of Mazda has a new way of life as an engine for power generation in the future, but achieved the first overall victory of a Japanese car in the Cosmo Sports, RX-7, and Le Mans 24-hour endurance race. The history of Mazda's rotary engine, such as the 787B, can be said to be the history of Mazda's sports cars.
.
Under such circumstances, Mazda is aiming to decorate the endless beauty of the RX-9 as the last pure sports car equipped with a rotary engine.

But what if we want the abnormal noise?
A very polite way of saying "it's loud af" which is precisely what the people want! BrrraaaaaAAAAAPPPP-bra-POW-bbbrrrraaaaaAAAAAAPPPPPP

I know you can hear that and that's exactly what my FC sounded like lol. It was glorious.

My FB would shoot fireballs out of the exhaust after I converted it to a Dellorto DHLA 48 side-draft carb. It also shot apex seal chunks out of the exhaust which was more problematic.

Yes. Please do a parallel hybrid rotary. Please. And three rotors are the best sounding of all the rotary engine configurations, so I really hope this is what the RX-Whatever comes with, if it comes at all. An N/A 3-rotor turned for 5000-9000rpm power and an electric motor to fill the low end and mid range on the torque curve. And both buttery smooth working together. Best thing about pairing a rotary with an electric motor is that the low-load efficiency and torque issues go away, at least partially - meaning less emissions, way better fuel economy, and much better torque.
