Didn't Sony mention during GT4's development something about permanent skidmarks? But they didn't put them in GT4 because the PS2 couldn't handle it and the marks would be awful. Perhaps GT5 will get those permanent skidmarks. It would be cool to spin out on the first corner of Fuji and then come back and still see those skidmarks.

So your saying reverse lights are more important than skidmarks? They might be if your the kind of driver that spends most of his time finding his way back to the track.

Skidmarks are an integral part of any driving/racing sim. They were in racing games 10-15 yrs ago so why can`t they be in GT5 in 2010?

PD prides it`self on having stunning visual`s and superior graphics detail and claims to be the real driving simulator yet a important part of both the driving experiance and the(mainly) visual experiance is missing.

We get realistic tyre squeal sound and smoke visuals but no marks??
They are all linked! It`s like having a cake with candles that are unlit but your trying to tell me to blow them out and it`s not important to have them lit?
Like Squeal,Smoke and Marks the cake, candles and flame are all linked, one without the other is just not right!

Everycar is capable of producing skidmarks to some degree, but not every car has reverse lights, does NASCAR run reverse lights or how about Le-Mans cars? No they don`t, but they are all capable of squeal, smoke and skidmarks!

It`s good that reverse lights are in the game but i`d drop them in a heartbeat for skidmarks. It`s like the car in your avatar,it`s doing a burnout it has squeal, smoke and i bet once the smoke clears it two nasty black lines snaking down the road. If you told the owner his car didn`t leave skidmarks but his reverse lights look lovely, you`d be wearing a sidchrome necklace home!

Oh i have have had a quick blast with Forza when it first came out at games shops. I didn`t think it was too bad but GT is decidedly much better,i certainly showed the small crowd that gathered around how to really drive a Z06 :sly:

As for Karts and F1 and NASCAR,they belong in their own game. NASCAR really is only in so PD can flog a few extra squillion copies to the americans(if you build it,they will come....with their wallet`s) and help sony boost PS3 sales. Money talks and america is full of it and sony wants it :dunce:

I completly disagree. Karts, F1 and NASCAR belong in GT.

I hope you mean just for the race because I'm sure after I've been playing alot the whole track would be black with skid marks.;)

Good grief, back to ranting about anything and everything?

Well, seriously, it would be nice if skidmarks were in, but that's pretty low on my wish list. If they aren't in, keep in mind that Kaz didn't keep them out to spite you. He really wants everything in that he can imagine, but he has pretty high standards. But there are still surprises to come, so stay tuned for GamesCom, where we should get even more news. Unless it's been leaked already... :D

that's what I was trying to say with my "crybaby" thread. Everyone seems to be complaining about small things like reverse lights and skid marks. 800 standard cars is understandable, but whining about small things just seems pointless. And at this point, whining about the 800 standard cars is pointless as well 'cause they're in the game. Not much you can do about it.

Let's hope they don't add skidmarks until they also include tire pick up and all the issues that come with that. That would affect vehicle grip and would seriously add to the harrowing part of racing, but only if it's done with reason and not just for looks. So many aspects to simulation that have to be looked at, I'll be happy with what they have already, skid marks don't mean much to me since they look like eyesores anyway. We at least have tire smoke, so I'm guessing skidmarks aren't too far behind.

Skid marks never realy bothered me but better smoke is a great thing to have.

I have to say right away... if you don't think karting is for real, then you're not a racing fan. I can't even begin to tell you what racing stars started out in (or at least have done) go-kart racing. Kart racing is seriously for real.

And for NASCAR? I wasn't really high (as in considerate) of NASCAR in a Gran Turismo game, but NASCAR is a legitimate motorsport whether you like it or not. There is a science to piloting a stock car around a race track. There are methods to race these things properly. They are not race cars the caliber of an LMP or a Formula 1 car, but then again, are super trucks (like in FIA European Truck Racing) all-conquering racing machines? The idea of all of this is that because NASCAR is just-turn-left racing that it has no place in a Gran Turismo game. Also, how can you really say that this is just a way to get a cheap buck (or a cheap yen for Japan), how can you say it's for a cheap buck when there have been some Japanese racers that have contested NASCAR? The two that immediately come to mind are Hideo Fukuyama in 2002 and Shigeaki Hattori that raced in NASCAR before. So obviously, if in any attempt to educate Japan on NASCAR, at least some people have cared to care for NASCAR. I'm no NASCAR fanatic, but I respect NASCAR and its inclusion into GT5.

I should really mention the NASCAR details in the "NASCAR in GT5" thread, but I wanted to share my ideas to get my points across.

Because often, the games 10-15 years ago only had temporary skid marks. They'd disappear after a few seconds or a certain distance of skid marks.

Can you imagine if you have 2, 8 or however many we'll have online, drifting tracks together only for their skid marks to be there a second behind them then fade.

Quite frankly I'd rather no skid-marks than badly done skid marks.

Thats a really point good you have there in relation to the amount of cars in a online race :) I didn`t consider that factor. It would make it hard to have in the game due to the PS3 limit`s. Maybe just have it in Career/arcade/2P mode.

I`m sure if PD did some house keeping with GT5`s car numbers/model variations, then skidmarks could be included at a satisfactory level.

The possibility of a stunt arena would not make GT5, GT5. I can see some ratings dropping due to that despicable thought.

Only if you HAVE to use it. Although, I'm sure some crybabies would whine about it. There's always at least one that whines about stupid things.

I'm sorry, but after reading 25 pages (at 20ppp) of this, I cannot, simply CANNOT believe that with all these suggestions for new tracks if a track editor is implemented (I'm one who will wait until it's 100% confirmed until I speak about it) that NONE OF YOU have even considered re-creating the hardest track in ALL of the GT series.

Which track is that you ask?? The one and only..............

COMPLEX STRING!!

Complex String creation in GT5 = WIN!

Complex String wasn't the hardest track in a GT game. Nurburgring is. I hardly do a lap on the Ring without running into the grass or something.

Take a look at the GTR at 0:28, hmmmm.....why show this one doing 'donuts'? Sure to show the new smoke effects, however......maybe also to show real 'donuts' ie, skidmarks????? Perhaps wishfull thinking, since you can't actually see any for the split second overhead shot, but........never know. 💡

It's to demonstrate the new tire smoke.

yah?... That's what I said. But the new tyre smoke effect can be demonstated without doing donuts, and in fact it has been in multiple vids. Just an observation. Couldn't care either way, but PD puts out trailers and vids to tell a story. We'll see if the 'skid mark' fans get their wish. Hell, reverse light fans got theirs.....:dunce:

btw, the probable real reason is to show the new driving physics. It's not been possible to perform donuts before, either.

In my opinion I disagree as I can do full laps of the 'ring, complete to OLR rules where I couldn't do the same thing with Complex String. It became my burnout track because of the camera angle on one particular section.

I've been doing donuts in the past and present. :indiff: ???

I fixed some spelling errors :P

They are actually doing a pretty good with the damage physics...
However they don't show the cars completely rollover...i wonder why. :mischievous:
