http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/metal-gear-solid-5-confirmed/

In an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine UK that will hits the stands on November 29, (2011) the Metal Gear Solid series creator, Hideo Kojima, has confirmed that work on Metal Gear Solid 5 is underway.

Beyond that tantalizing nugget we’ll have to wait for the release of the print issue for the full story, but the news shouldn’t really surprise anyone. The Metal Gear Solid series has remained one of the most influential, profitable, and strongest franchises of the last two decades, and the recent release of the HD Collection is further proof of the property’s appeal.

In the interview, Kojima also discussed the new Project Ogre, Metal Gear Solid Rising (the first MGS game Kojima neither wrote nor directed), and how Snake was supposed to die but got a reprieve.

While the news of MGS5 isn’t shocking, it is the first time we’ve heard any real solid news about it. Now that we know for sure it is coming, the confirmation raises more questions than answers. Will it be on this generation of consoles or the next? Will it be a PlayStation exclusive? Will the cut scenes exceed 10 hours? If the game is anywhere near completion, it wouldn’t be surprising to see an official announcement at next month’s VGA Awards, or possibly next year’s E3. But if it is set for the next generation of consoles, we may have a long wait in front of us.

In the meantime, if you are craving more MGS action, the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is available now, and keep an eye out for the MGS4 prequel, Metal Gear Solid Rising, which will debut on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2012.

IGN MGS:GZ and MG 25th Year Anniversary Party News

The link below is an IGN video with the news about what was revealed at the MGS anniversary party. As you can see clearly in the video, the video clip of MGS:GZ in action are very similar to the pics posted in the magazine article above. Proof that MGS5 in that article is really MGS:GZ.

Excellent news. I only hope that it isn't as short as 4... :nervous:

I bought MGSHDC this week. Can't wait to play MGS3 in HD and of course, the PSP one which name I seem to have forgotten.

The PSP MGS you're thinking of is Peace Walker. A fantastic game in it's own right, but I can't wait to replay it on PS3 with dual thumb sticks and an HDTV. I'm currently playing through Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and I love revisiting these fantastic games. I'm playing them in the order they were released (I beat the original Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid a few days before this collection was released for the millionth time) and it's the most fun I've had with video games in a long time.

I'm confused as to what Metal Gear Solid 5 will even be about. Snake's chapter is effectively over (and I thought Guns of the Patriots was a fantastic send off) so I'm assuming that they're going to pull another MGS 2 and have a completely different main character. I'm sure Hideo Kojima will make it amazing regardless, so here's to another fantastic stealth action game. 👍

Peacewalker is the psp title.

Thanks for the reminder and yes, I've heard nothing but great stuff about Peace Walker. I wasn't able to play it becuase I don't own a PSP.

@Peo: I've always believed that a somewhat likely target for a new MG game would be about Sunny's rescue. In MGS4 Snake mentions that he and Raiden rescued Sunny from the patriots after Olga gave birth and died.

Isn't MGSR supposed to cover that chapter? Regardless, MGS5 is going to be great. I just wish that there was more of a leak than what was presented.

I hope they've learned that it's not cool to call "normal" difficulty "extreme". And I hope there are difficulties above normal this time. Well, if I even get the game at all. I don't have any urge for it, I think Snakes death and a fourth game should've been a nice ending for the series.

Ok, thanks, I'd taken one look at Rising and think some newbies to Metal Gear will like it, it has some interesting things going for it, but people like me who have done the whole burger probably hate the existence of it, but at least now I know it's a prequel to 4.

Glad that Kojima's leaving Solid Snake out of 5, The final scene of 4 is truly the end of what we need to see, let him live out the rest of his life in peace. Only prequel stories to 4 should ever involve Solid Snake again.

I hope I don't see Vamp ever again either, however I watched the cutscenes of MGS2 again the other week and Fortune is a much more awesome character than I remember, I wouldn't mind Kojima putting her in a new scenario.
I wonder if, for 5, Kojima will improve on the multiple characters system of Portable Ops (Use Codec to call the other characters) and make a game where you play the Cobra Unit when they were in their prime, or maybe just The Boss, remember that (In her first Codec chat to Snake In MGS3) she said she was undercover for some mission, which is why she broke off contact with Naked Snake/BB for years.

But wasn't TB's mission to infiltrate Russia and defect to Russia? If I remember correctly (it's been a while) even as she was in contact with Zero and Naked Snake she was still doing that mission.

Her mission was to infiltrate Russia, "defect" to the Soviets and have her life ended by Big Boss, dying as a villain to everyone but a hero to those select few that knew the truth.

Well, since Rising is on it's way (and multi platform), biggest possibility is that Kojima will take his time to create next MGS as advanced as possible.
Now what I'd really like to know, if it'll also come out as a multi platform game, or will be stamped as a PS exclusive again.
Possibility in that is also very great, since Sony released news on what GPU it's next console will feature a while ago..

It was a while ago that I've accidentally came across an article on the web about it.
Maybe they were rumors, but as far as I remember it looked pretty legit.
I can't remember the name, but rumors said that it'll be from a rather unknown, super gpu designer.
I think they should go again for a cell again as cpu, combined with this card, cuz most PS3 exclusives are really based on cpu's graphical support.

Of course they'll use cell again. They didn't fork our millions just to throw it away. It's a monster of a processor and is only limited by the ram that sony put into the ps3. PS4 will simply be a beefed up ps3 with a few new bits and bobs, but generally very similar architecture.

Xbox can have Rising, but we need to work to secure the good future Metal Gear titles as PS exclusives and get things back how they belong. End the console cold war and force everyone to choose one side or the other, unless they can do both, actually I think quite a lot of people do have both, which eliminates the need to share titles across consoles in the first place, so this all makes sense really.

I doubt they'll release full metal gear games on Xbox this generation. You'd need 10 discs for the likes of MGS 4 alone.

One of my friends told me about this article a few days ago. It basically says that the "next" MGS will be set in Africa during the 70s, with Big Boss as the main character. My friend also sent me this link to Hideo Kojima's Twitter account. I have no idea how reliable this sources are, and I find it a bit surprising that this hasn't been shared here, even if it ends up being just a rumor, but it does look interesting.

You know what I'd go totally crazy for? A Metal Gear game set in World War II where you play as The Boss, MGS3 alluded to her commanding the world's first special forces unit back then, didn't it? Yep, that could and probably would be incredible. I don't think there's ever been a good WWII stealth 'em up, or has there? I don't think there has but I get the feeling I'm forgetting something huge and obvious...

I think going back to Big Boss would be a bit of a cop-out, though, it seems a bit easy to set a game during the Cold War and be like 'ooh, look at all this alternate history technology there COULD have been'. There's a whole thing about secret weapons of WWII so why not have The Boss go sneaking around trying to sort that stuff out? Then again I suppose that's just as easy as setting it in the Cold War.

I don't see how they could use Snake in a non-prequel without some serious retconning, I think he should just be allowed to retire really. There's room for prequels featuring him though, of course, I just think they're a bit lazy if I'm honest.

There's a lot of 'stuff' that happened from 1974 to 1980. Here's some details...

1974
May 8th: Daniel Oduber Quirós becomes the President of Costa Rica. He distances himself from the United States, limiting the privileges granted to American banks, and lifts the sanctions on Cuba.
May 18th: India becomes the sixth nuclear power as a result of Project Smiling Buddha.

July: the Threshold Test Ban Treaty is signed.

August 9th: U.S. President Richard Nixon resigns.

NEST (Nuclear Emergency Search Team) is set up by U.S. President Gerald R. Ford to be "prepared to respond immediately to any type of radiological accident or incident anywhere in the world."

November 4th: The Militaires Sans Frontieres are hired by Paz Ortega Andrade and Ramon Galvez Mena of the Costa Rican University for Peace, to repel rogue CIA forces operating in Costa Rica. Galvez is exposed as a KGB agent.

November 10th: Peace Walker Incident: The Militaires Sans Frontieres enter Costa Rica and begin operations against the occupying force, revealed to be the Peace Sentinels. The MSF destroys one of the Pupa AI weapons with the help of its developer Huey Emmerich.

November 19th: The MSF infiltrates a hidden AI laboratory headed by Strangelove, and Big Boss first encounters The Boss AI. The MSF destroy the Chrysalis AI weapon.

November 21st: The MSF track down the Peace Walker AI weapon to a testing facility disguised as a mining complex, and decomission the AI weapon Cocoon. After infiltrating the base, Big Boss is captured. The SALT II talks begin.

November 22nd: Big Boss is tortured, but later escapes captivity. Peace Walker is activated and Big Boss battles its bipedal form, successfully damaging it. Peace Walker then escapes to Nicaragua; The Boss's horse dies during Big Boss's attempted pursuit.

November 23rd: Gerald Ford meets with Leonid Brezhnev to negotiate SALT II at Vladivostok. Peace Walker makes preparations to destroy MSF's Mother Base with a nuclear strike, from a U.S. missile base in Nicaragua. Ramon Galvez, a.k.a. Vladimir Zadornov, changes Peace Walker's target to Cuba and fatally wounds Peace Sentinel leader Hot Coldman. Sandinistas under Amanda Valenciano Libre and the MSF capture and detain Zadornov. On his deathbed, Coldman arms Peace Walker for launch, despite the change in target, which also transmits false trajectory data to NORAD and the National Military Command Chain. Coldman dies. Peace Walker is heavily damaged by the MSF, which then destroys itself in order to stop the false data transmission.

Post-November 23rd: MSF sends some of its soldiers to Angola to participate in the country's war for independence. Because of MSF recovering Peace Walker's nuclear warhead from Lake Nicaragua and the decision to arm ZEKE with it, MSF also unofficially became the world's seventh nuclear power. Pacifica Ocean hijacks Metal Gear ZEKE from the Militaires Sans Frontieres and attempts to convince Big Boss to rejoin Zero's organization, Cipher. She later attempts to use ZEKE to launch a nuclear strike at the East Coast of the United States, with the intention of framing the MSF, forcing Big Boss to battle ZEKE and critically damage it.

November 24th: Gerald Ford and Leonid Brezhnev sign the SALT II. The treaty limits the number of strategic nuclear delivery vehicles on each side to 2,400. Among that number, MIRVs are restricted to 1,320.

December: Former Prime Minister of Japan Eisaku Sato receives the Nobel Peace prize for laying forth Japan's Three Non-Nuclear Principles.

December 27th: A group of FSLN guerrillas seize the home of a former government official and took as hostage a handful of leading Nicaraguan officials, many of whom were Somoza relatives. The guerrillas succeed in getting 14 Sandinista prisoners released from jail and flown to Cuba along with the kidnappers. They achieve recognition as a representative of anti-Somoza sentiment.

Sigint develops the idea that AIs should be used to control and manipulate information and have limited control over humanity.

1975
The United States reneigns control of the Da Nang Air Base.

The Mozambican Civil War begins, between the ruling party, the Front for Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO), and the Rhodesian/South African-funded Mozambique Resistance Movement (RENAMO).

Frank Jaeger returns to Mozambique and participates as a soldier for the RENAMO.

Big Boss rescues Frank Jaeger from a FRELIMO prison camp in Mozambique.

I just want another game like MGS1, all set in one large, built up area. I've never liked the outdoor, wide expanses of 3 and 4. The best part of 4 was going back over the MGS1 level.

^And using REX to stomp on those Gekko that have been annoying you the whole game.

Glad to see that 5 is not a continuation of 4, hopefully they really do let Solid Snake "put aside the gun, and live".

I'm interested in seeing the Fox Engine in action for this one. The Fox Engine ahould be demonstrated in July according to Kojima. Just in time for the Metal Gear series 25th anniversary.

Solid? Liquid? Sounds like poo. Bet it's released on steam. Lol.

There was a game a few years ago called Velvet Assassin. I haven't played it, but it got mediocre reviews.

The boss was never really deeply explored in mgs 3. She is a vital charchter in the series and should be put into deeper context. So I do agree with neemas idea. Plus......

*possible spoiler alert*

Remember she had that child? What actually happened to it. Maybe the mission to kill the sorrow? That would be good :)

Highlight to see spoiler.
From what I can remember, Revolver Ocelot is that/her child, I could be wrong though.

Can't wait for this. We really need to play as the Boss, showing how she rose up the ranks, formed the COBRA unit, etc.

This is the MGS I'm really hyped for, since I trust Kojima's leadership 100%.
Rising....not so much, but I'll wait for reviews and give it a shot if it's worth it :indiff:

I've got mixed feelings about MGS5.

If Kojima finally gets snake replaced as the main charakter, that'd be great. Then agaain, I kinda felt that MGS4 became more of a movie than previous titles - and it really started to drive me away from that game. So, MGS5 hopefully is more of what I'd call a game, again.

Oh, and I'd quite like to see an Xbox version...
