Here is where I stand on it being on Xbox. Its a playstation game. Leave it so. I don't want halo or gears of war on my playstation. I don't want them having mgs. Its as simple as that.

First Details

Speaking with the french mag IG Magazine, Hideo Kojima, Konami's resident loudmouth has revealed the first few details about the game. Do bear in mind that his comments were translated from Japanese to French to English so something maybe lost in translation.

"About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you 'a favor' like in the last Metal Gear Solid," Kojima said.

To speculate on that point, IGN's Metal Gear experts don't recall getting people to give us favors in Peace Walker. Given that this is an interview translated from Japanese to French and then to English, something could have been lost in translation. It could mean earning favor, as loyalty played a role in the latest Metal Gear game.

The details end there, however when asked whether or not Solid Snake will return, Kojima said, "We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots."

More information as we get it.

No it's not. Metal Gear Solid 3 and 4 are the only ones that haven't been released on another system, not counting the PSP titles of course. The original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 were on the NES, MGS1 and I believe 2 were ported to the Gamecube.

Actually, now that I think of it, the 360 got the MGS HD collection, so the only MGS game to be a PlayStation exclusive is Metal Gear Solid 4.

The Metal Gear games are masterpieces and any real gamer would want as man people as possible to enjoy them. Who cares if it comes out for the 360 or WiiU? Why wouldn't you want them to enjoy a fantastic game? Don't tell me the 360 will hold the game back because I don't believe that at all. Maybe the 360 version won't look quite as good as the PS3 version and be on multiple discs (like Final Fantasy XIII) but the game will be great no matter how many systems they release it for, as long as the insane genius they call Hideo Kojima is at the helm.

I don't mind as long as the same game is released for all platforms. I recall falling in love with the Kingdom Hearts series, only to become lost in the story due to specific games being released on random consoles/handhelds and yes even cellphones. I'm not interested in buying every gaming machine on the market just to follow a storyline. but hey, that's just me.

Does anyone else translate that as a quest system?

We really need to play as the Boss, showing how she rose up the ranks, formed the COBRA unit, etc.

Actually, that's a great idea...

I did at first, but then I realized that it was translated from Japanese to French to English so something was definitely lost in translation. If anything, expect the phrase to mean something closer to what Peace Walker did.

The original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 were on the NES,

No they weren't.

The original games were released only in Japan for the MSX console, which incidentally was made by Sony. The first Metal Gear received a very bad port to the nes. Neither Kojima, nor his team had the slightest bit of input on the port.

Then came the terrible "Snake's Revenge" which was not a port, but an original game. Again, Kojima had no input in this.

Well as you can tell from my I'd I'm a ocelot fan (non liquid personality) but I would like to play as him have his story between like 3-1 or something because his history shows he's seen a lot of war. Doesn't have to be exactly a stealth game hit since he idolizes big boss he might try it to be him lol

I would rather they explored the boss than ocelot. She has such a mystery about her.

What they need to do more of is not connecting new characters to existing ones, we need a lot of fresh meat, not people who just happen to be the brother of a cousin of a mother of some existing character, that factor has become irksome for me.

I'm disappointed Kojima isn't going to give Solid Snake a rest after 4's storyline, some people just don't know how to quit when they're ahead, but at least this disgrace will have to wait until MGS6.

A year ago I despised the thought of MGS ever being on Xbox, but a year later of the console war and there's no doubt in my mind that the 360 has trumped the PS3 on merit (not just microsoft buying power), the PS3 may have a more powerful chipset, capabilities & blu ray, but the 360's better user experience, ease of use and relationship to a PC (when it comes to studios developing games for/porting from PC) has won out, I concur.
I don't want to talk consoles in this thread of course, but this is the factor that has made me deem the Xbox worthy of MGS nowadays. The PS3 exhibits similar traits to that of the N64.

Funny you should mention the MSX. Because, yes, that is where Metal Gear originated and yes, some MSX were produced by Sony, but wanna guess what company had largely led the MSX project?
MSX was the name of a standardized home computer architecture in the 1980s conceived by Kazuhiko Nishi, then Vice-president at Microsoft Japan and Director at ASCII Corporation. It is said that Microsoft led the project as an attempt to create unified standards among hardware makers.[1]

So, anyone saying that a Metal Gear game has no place on a Microsoft console should rethink that train of thought. While Microsoft may not have been building MSX "consoles" (not to my knowledge, at least), they basically pioneered and created that standard. Lots of companies manufacturered the MSX, though:
Spectravideo, Philips, Al Alamia, Sony, Sanyo, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Hitachi, National, Panasonic, Canon, Casio, Pioneer, Fujitsu General, Yamaha, JVC, Yashica-Kyocera, GoldStar, Samsung/Fenner, Daewoo/Yeno, Gradiente, Sharp/Epcom, Talent.

I said no such thing. I was simply correcting someone who stated that the originals were on Nintendo.

I didn't mean to adress you specifically. Just the "the MSX was made by Sony" bit. There really wasn't much of a connection between the first Metal Gear and Sony. That's all I'm pointing out.

I really don't understand brand loyalty in gaming, it's just bizarre. Why would you WANT MGS5 to be an exclusive? Now, having said that, I do hate how multiplatform games are always designed around the lowest common denominator in terms of hardware - the 360 - and as a result the game suffers on the PS3 to an extent and greatly so on PC. You get games that can't be played properly with a keyboard and mouse, some with extremely low resolution textures and pre-rendered video quality and so on, but as I said the difference is less noticeable on PS3, so... Yeah. If they could strike a balance between the 50GB storage of a Blu Ray and having to have several DVDs, I'm sure they could optimise the audio compression (apparently that's why MGS4 was so big) so that it fits on a sensible number of DVDs for 360 players without heavily compromising the quality of various assets. Who knows, maybe they could have an optional 'HD textures' or 'HD audio' install for those with enough HDD space, like EA released for Crysis 2 on PC (DX 11 mode and HD textures).

Anyway, I have no problem with Metal Gear games exploring previously established characters' backgrounds, that's the difference between fleshing out a universe or timeline and cashing in on an established franchise. I think Metal Gear: Rising (or whatever it's now called) is more of the latter than the former, but a proper Metal Gear game has to relate to the core timeline otherwise it's just a spin-off. The Boss and Ocelot are both great characters that could really do with some fleshing out, but given the choice I'd still prefer to see The Boss' history first; some prototypical spec-ops gameplay set in WWII would be so awesome.

What is everyone's outlook on rising revengence? I like it at first (rising) and I've had it preordered of the longest but seeing the video of revengence im not as excited and I'm actually thinking about getting my money back. I mean devil may cry is a cool game but idl I don't want a metal gear game like that.

To support your claims, I first played a MGS (Metal Gear) game on a Commodore 128 back in '89.

It's rumored that Kojima has shown the Fox Engine at SDCC behind closed doors, Bleszinski being one of the fortunate to have seen what Kojima and Konami have shown. Perhaps an early MGS5 progress showing.....or perhaps not. Intriguing.

More news:

Apparently, the first images have leaked from Comic-Con. This image have been seen in a reddit thread and later found in a NeoGAF thread.

The sequence that was shown was some dialog that said, "The moment we were cast out of heaven, we became monsters", where another reads "A Paradise is born of the bloodstained earth". Below that, you can make out the words: "-Would she have wanted this? -That doesn't matter now."

The game itself isn't going by Tactical Espionage Action as many have suspected from past MGS titles, but instead the game is undergone another transformation as "Open Ground Reconnaissance Endeavour".

Naturally, Konami doesn't comment on rumors or speculation, so feel free to speculate away.

That's either a dodgy provisional translation or a joke, but I'm excited either way... Seeing those three words with a big 5 next to them would have that effect on any fan though I suppose!

I take the blonde one

The fox engine looks really good, and a new MGS is more than welcome. But for now I wait for the trophies to be added and then play MGS4 again.

On this subject is there a website online somewhere that has a simple breakdown, in chronological order, of the MGS storyline? I've obviously played all the games and read the MGS4 database thing but some bits are still unclear.

What is that guy doing on the left?!!?

Photobombing.

I'll second that I fancy a quick read of it :)

I put a Metal Gear Solid timeline link in the first post. If you search around, after clicking on the link, you should find what you're looking for.

Updated the first page and included the new name change. It appears MGS5 and MGS:GZ are the same game.
