I love using all 5 gears up to 60km/h town speed limits, in my Charade. Nothing better. :P

I'd hope the little Toyota sports car, will be just as much fun.

Okay.

Does anyone else really dislike the S-FR II compared to the S-FR?

I think, both concepts are good. It's just that, it gives me an old-timey Sports 800 vibe. Maybe in its production version, it could be a tamer and more neo-retro variant, than the first concept

It's probably worth noting that the "S-FR II" is as-yet just a Car & Driver/bestcarweb render, so we don't actually know what the actual concept will look like yet and probably won't until we're a bit closer to the Tokyo show.

I think it's also notable that the original 2015 concept already looked very close to production-spec, which contrasts with the original FT-86 concept which then became the more production-ready FT-86 II concept. I'd probably be disappointed, but also surprised, if Toyota changed the S-FR too much for its second appearance, other than to bring it even closer to production.

Only thing I can see about the changes to the S-FR when it hits production is mainly an overhaul of the bumpers to satisfy global safety regulations, and seeing what that did with the Chiron, it makes me a little concerned to be honest.

They should do the Chiron thing, just leave the bolts visible (like on the Chiron).

It's a glorious loop hole.

Being a supercar the Chiron is quite a unique case, just as previous supercars have been. The S-FR is probably closer in theory to something like a Lexus (it's from the same manufacturer, after all) - big grille at the front, but the right structure underneath to allow it to pass global standards without overriders.

*sigh* Call me, when the thread gets back to topic...

...if we had any more data, test results, production dates, et al ...on a concept vehicle, that would also be nice.

Heck, an S-FR photo showing an actual luggage compartment would help yours truly.

What do you think will be the height limit for this thing? At the recent autoshow I had plenty of head room in the Miata despite being 5'11".

I also wonder how much it will cost in Canada with the economy? I doubt it will be the targeted sub $15k for the States.

A half-page of posts have been deleted. That's one obvious troll taken care of.

The really unfortunate thing is the same small clique of members that seem to think resorting to insults and lazy memes/poor grammar in response to a troll is in any way acceptable. Since there have been multiple warnings for this — again, to the same handful of members, over and over — the next time it'll just be some time away.

My apologies, although my last post was on topic.

Was inquiring about possible height limits and pricing.

I'm guessing at best it may be in the low 20k range, maybe even within the 18k range by just looking at it.

Then again I look at the 86 and in no way would I think it would cost 26k+.

Whoops, it got caught in the train-wreck. Reinstating now!
Nope problem lol, thanks.

I'm pessimisticly assuming +30% of the American price, so about $20k.

Yeah, just sat in the GT86 at the auto show, damn that interior is cheap as all hell.
TB
Just saw it as I was reading through the nonsense. 👍

Already caught it. :)
Thanks!

Sorry, won't happen again.

While I agree the design of the 86's interior isn't something to write home about, the materials used are no different than the MX5, or a 3 series for that matter.

The interior those cars have is just a better designed interior. But in no way of higher quality. Especially the 3 series was a disappointment as it looks very effective, but it's all just plastic.

And those glossy center consoles leave fingerprints. Which is disgusting.

I actually like Mazda's hard plastics better than Toyota's hard plastics. The ND interior just feels more... special, even discounting the styling decisions. MIght have something to do with build quality, as well.

Of course, the MX-5 has the cheapest feeling sunvisors around, so that probably balances everything out.

That said, the 86 does have better steering feel than the ND... and given how all the controls work... steering, shifter, brakes, etcetera... there's hope that the SF-R will be a cracker to drive... however good or bad the interior is.

Honestly, I love both. There are too few cars like these being made.
Although the MX-5 is just slightly too small for me. For short trips I can have 2 people in the back in my 86.
They are in no way comfortable back there, but I have driven three passengers plus their luggage from the airport and back.
I couldn't do that in an MX-5. But I do love Mazda's design. My sister has a Mazda 3, and I think it's an absolutely phenomenal car. the CX-3 looks brilliant as well, and I think the Mazda 6 is the best looking car in its segment.

There isn't much design to the 86. But then again, Toyota's have never amazed people with its interiors. (Let's leave Lexus out of this)
Ultimately I forgive every flaw the car has purely based on the pleasure the car gives me driving it as a daily driver. In October it'll turn 5 years of age, and so far it's been a spectacular daily driver.

The S-FR concept's interior looked great. Probably not too impressive in terms of actual materials, but I found the basic design really appealing - more so than the GT86:

Hoping they keep details like the body-colour panels, the rubber shifter boot, the hexagonal graphic theme etc. Someone clearly had fun designing it (inside and out) so it'd be a shame if they toned everything down.

Vibrant colours are a must, too. It'd be a crime to order a car like this in a dull colour.

The MR-S was like that. An unorthodox interior and some seat colour choices.
I don't mind the jumbled interior.

I don't think the bright sections next to the side mirrors are a great idea.
