Microsoft drops all DRM.

Now is Oficial!
XBOX ONE IS THE BEST VIDEO GAME CONSOLE EVER.
Since the 1º day I have always supported XBOX ONE.
Now everybody will buy a XBOX ONE

Well that was a mature and well written post. Thank you for your contribution.

This change doesn't erase the sad sad explanations and defense of their policies.

Phil Spencer
Don Mattrick
Major Nelson

They all failed, The best way to clean it up and save all of their jobs is to remove the system killing features.

I think Mattrick should be in the hot seat after this fiasco, Spencer less so. Major Nelson is fine. He's just a soldier. He doesn't make policy; he just follows orders.

this will certainly lessen the number of converts, but wonder how this will affect the development of games.

That's the problem with Major Nelson, he is now a corporate mule(they load him up with their crap and he has to carry it). If you watch his interview with Angry Joe on Youtube you will see it. It's bad. Really bad.

Nice timing on their part as well, announcing this during the PS3's update problems.

They're really messing with their fanbase though aren't they? haha, all these sour faced guys that went online giving their sob stories about how they "have to say goodbye to Xbox" like they're breaking up with a girlfriend suddenly have good reason to come back. What a weird state.

I'm really glad they did this, I feel like we won as consumers. All of you guys defending the Xbone before, just realize exactly what it was you were debating for.

Looks like I'm gonna get an Xbone now.

Still not happy that the Kinect 2 is required, that the family sharing plan thing is dropped, that they don't allow indie devs to self-publish, and that it seems that my CSR wheel, along with all other wheels, won't work. But we can work with it now.

Now the X1 looks a console worth $500. I still don't believe I will buy on release but it looks like I might buy both the PS4 and Xbox One at the same time in the holiday season of 2014.

What an astonishing month it's been. I'm still not buying an XBone this fall, but I'm really glad they fixed the things that were absolute deal breakers. Count me in for a reduced-price model that omits Kinect...otherwise, I can wait.

I wonder if Sony may backtrack on the paywall?

MS did make it easy for Sony in the past few months and paying for PSN was a small issue compared to the plans for the new Xbox for some but now the Xbox One is the same as the 360 plus no region lock, Sony's machine look less appealing to people possibly. We don't really know how Sony has improved or going to improve PSN. Xbox people who were worried or upset over consumer issues have no worries now and can cancel that PS4 preorder.

So the upshot is PSN is now needed on PS4 and Xbox 180 improved to be region free and already has the best online.

Sony had a great chance from Feb to E3 to show something properly but I think now any US gamer is looking out for Xbox 180. Any cheap ass gamer or occasional online player has no option, Sony's new machine is a backstep for those.

I'd much rather see some improvements then pay, than wait 1-2 years to see if paying had improved.

They still have the Ouya, Wii U, cheap PCs which will play a large number of indie/old games pretty well...

I so want this to be true, but unfortunately, I don't think they're that clever.

For those that are oblivious: this is a post from reddit (YES, THE R IS NOT CAPITALIZED) that wasn't meant to be serious at all, it was a joke that became prophecy.

Of course PCs

I'm really on about the PS3 players who play COD/BF/FIFA for free online. They aren't going to switch to pc gaming much as I'd like everyone to. I don't feel I should explain why consoles are popular.

Mass ranks of EU players now have to pay.

My point is now you do, you might as well opt for an Xbox.

Before the backtrack, the consolers would still see PS4 favorably (see internet reaction) but the difference now is pay for unknown, possibly still crappy PSN or pay for the real deal Xbox live.

Xbox Live is a little cheaper at some places, pretty much same price though.

If Xbox 180 is still going to push dedicated servers too then it makes PSN even more questionable.

I think PSN+ should be cheaper or keep it as it is on PS3 and let those pay and build up funds to improve it.

If Xbox 180

Jesu Christo, please don't try to make this a thing.

It's funny exactly two times as a joke, not to be applied as nomenclature imo. Can't be compared to Xbone, we're talking hardware vs. strategy.

Yes. The gaming society put us at a stalemate for progression. The jump from 360/PS3 to X1/PS4 is just about lateral now. Graphics are a wee better and a little faster. YAY! Why wold you want to pay money for a turbo'd ps3/360? That is the most illogical thing I've seen. Now we have to wait another 8 years before some other company massages DRM into society to make it "alright". ONLY then can gaming go to new technology. I have friedns all over the country I'd love to be able to trade games with. Can't do that now. Sharing? Gone. Cloud library? Gone as well. All because you want to be able to hand a disc physically over to your friend? Lame. Thats small potatoes compared to what the world is coming to. I'd like to see developers make games that require you to have Kinect in order to fully appreciate a game, then have MS sell it separate $150. Yes the potential is there for it to spy on you. Do you put tape over your cell phones camera as well so the government doesn't record you in the shower? Do any of you go outside with out wearing a helmet? You just in case an asteroid hits you. You do know with space out there, there is always the potential...

By and large, I agree with you 100%. It's sad, because the XBone was really poised to actually offer something new to gaming with its ideas; whether you agree with the policies or not, you have to admit that at least they were pushing new ideas. Now, the Xbone is largely just a status-quo machine, like the PS4. The saving grace is that the Xbone at least has the technological base to be innovative (with the cloud focus and the new Kinect) so if devs push it, it could still offer something new.

I do want to respond to the bolded statement though: MS said that disk-based games cannot be shared. I think that sharing is still on if you buy a digital copy (and it sounds like 100% of titles will be available digitally on their launch day) so this is still possible...

I don't think that it is quite as lateral as one might make it seem. I bought all three consoles (granted they were staggered) this current gen, and with the policies that are announced today, I can confidently say that I will do so again next gen.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

From initial post :)

Weak.

A week after the information really took shape, 6 months before the console even sees a release, is "too late"?
Yes.

There was never a doubt that I would be getting a PS4, but the Xbone was 50/50 until I saw "what it had/hadn't", at E3 last week, yes.

So, Microsoft will not get a single dollar from me when it comes to the Xbone.

To be honest, this is a good thing for Microsoft.

But for me, this was to little, to late.

Are you from IGN?

I swear, that "too little, too late" argument makes zero sense to me.
