Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg reckons Halo: Reach will be king of the sales castle come the end of 2010 and has even dismissed competition from Gran Turismo 5.

"Is it launching next year?" he joked about the PS3-exclusive Polyphony Digital racer, speaking in an interview with Gamasutra.

"I've seen years and years of mini-games, but I haven't seen that the game is done. They just released the PSP version - maybe that's what they've been working on. I feel confident that there's nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010."

While a lot of console executives refrain from directly referring to the competition, Greenberg's happy to do so. Next year, he added, Xbox 360 will "continue to remain $100 cheaper than PS3", and it will "have more games, more blockbuster exclusives, no matter the genre".

One source of Greenberg's optimism, he said, is the ongoing success of third-party games on Xbox 360 relative to other formats. Indeed, according to the latest NPD figures for US sales, Modern Warfare 2 performed substantially better on 360 than PS3 despite the simultaneous release.

However, it's Sony who appears to be lining up the stronger first quarter of 2010, with MAG, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5 and God of war III all likely to hit before the end of March.

Microsoft can boast of a couple of exclusives - Splinter Cell: Conviction is only coming out on PC and Xbox 360, for example - but its earliest first-party exclusive is likely to be Alan Wake. Which we'd probably try to get out the door before we started poking fun at Gran Turismo's slippery release date, but y'know.

We will see who is laughing when GT5 sells like hot cakes and then continues to sell like hot cakes until the next GT comes out. This thread will get locked but honestly, GT5p sold over 4m copies. 4 million, on an install base that is relatively small and of a game that is not a "full GT experience". Maybe Mr. Greeberg has not yet been to Europe where GT is basically second only to Futbol. Downplaying someone else usually alludes to a lack of confidence in one's self.

To be honest, I agree when they say Halo will be the biggest game of 2010. Gran Turismo is quite a bespoke gaming genre. Something like Halo has much wider appeal. I remember when Halo 2 featured on Sky news on it's day of release. GT5 won't hit the level of frezy that surrounds the Halo series.

What he said. Halo will probably be the biggest game of 2010 by a long shot since there are more people in gaming world who are interested in shooting one another then driving a car. Modern Warfare 2 just proved that.

Oh and as not to be accused be being a MS loving fanboy, I hate the Halo series probably more than any other series of games.

I agree with this as well.

Killzone > Halo

For me anyway. :)

+1. Killzone smashes Halo and I've played both.

I disagree on that. The wait for GT5 has had fans salivating over it for OVER 5 YEARS! Even when people can't handle waiting anymore, they get FM3 or Shift...play it, realise their mistakes and sell it off and come back to waiting for GT5. Others have switched back to GT4 just to keep themselves tied over. I would not be surprised if this reached platinum status within weeks and break every PS3 and next gen sales record around!

who cares about Halo..

Not me, as above...I'm a KZ fan.

WTF is Halo: Reach? The title is terrible, it makes me think of stretching or boxing.

I think it's short for Halo: Reacharound. :P

I can understand that Halo is successful and important to Xbox but the way they go parading it around like its the most important thing on earth is bizzare. Do they want the 360 to just look like a HaloBox. They said 3 would be the end of it and suddenly theres ODST and REACH.

If you watched the recient FM3 advert they also make the comment 'its not a simulation, its an invitation', which is another swipe at GT5... eventhough they are currently not competing at all for market share.

jesus christ who cares they're video games! you play the ones that are fun and you don't play the ones that suck...what else is there to it?

Some of you people get way too heated in this whole microsoft vs sony thing.

Yeah I know, but it didn't stop them flogging another million copies off the shelves before it actually went to platinum. :)

They've milked that HALO cow for all it has lol.
I think it's dry.

2010 is the year of the PS3.
No fanboyism, but it honestly is.

Well there is a time limitation also before they start selling it as Platinum.

Aaron Greenberg can seriously suck on my reproductive organ for all I care. He's like a stupid hardcore fanboy who happens to work in the PR agency of one of the big console manufacturer and just making it worse for everyone.

Truer words have never been spoken.

Gran Turismo, it's serious business.

Halo Reach will probably sell more, all halo's do, GT5 will sell a whole hell of a lot, but i doubt anything other than MW2 will beat Halo, and i doubt that will happen.

I can't believe some of you are getting upset over a joke...

"Is it launching next year?" he joked about the PS3-exclusive Polyphony Digital racer, speaking in an interview with Gamasutra.

I actually found it a bit humorous considering that the joke is so close to the truth.

You think it's a joke just like the last dozens of them he made. He's totally serious about it though, that's the thing :P

Maybe in the US of A. World wide, no.
I don't get it, everybody talks Halo numbers..but, Halo did not surpass GT numbers. Never.

Yeah! And the campaign will have 5 hours! The most epic and biggest one ever seen in the FPS genre! Mind-blowing lasting appeal!!!!!11111!!!!!!!1!!!1!!

/sarcasm in case someone didn't notice.

And yeah I know he meant hype in the US. Nothing could ever begin to compete with GT5 in terms of content and I'm not sure if halo sells more than GT or if it's popular anywhere else.

HALO vs GT5? Microsoft makes me laugh, why not compare FM3 to GT5... maybe they know clear winner there?

I really hate this kind of MS marketing / self-promoting thing...they always bring up their so called competition and try to tell everyone how they are better in everyway...I mean, you should concentrate on improving the quality of your own games, but not how you "beat XXX's games"...guys like Turn 10's headman (I forgot his goddamn name) and this greenberg guy just have no class...

and Halo? Maybe it's good, but when I played halo 3, I thought it was for kids...

People arent gonna get SHOT over (or in, matter of fact) Gran Turismo
