I really hate this kind of MS marketing / self-promoting thing...they always bring up their so called competition and try to tell everyone how they are better in everyway...I mean, you should concentrate on improving the quality of your own games, but not how you "beat XXX's games"...guys like Turn 10's headman (I forgot his goddamn name) and this greenberg guy just have no class...

and Halo? Maybe it's good, but when I played halo 3, I thought it was for kids...

You know that's how marketing works right? You make your stuff look better than your competitors. Car ads, mobile phone ads, and bank ads are some of the best examples.

Yeah! And the campaign will have 5 hours! The most epic and biggest one ever seen in the FPS genre! Mind-blowing lasting appeal!!!!!11111!!!!!!!1!!!1!!

/sarcasm in case someone didn't notice.

And yeah I know he meant hype in the US. Nothing could ever begin to compete with GT5 in terms of content and I'm not sure if halo sells more than GT or if it's popular anywhere else.

Maybe it really has nothing to compare with in size - it probably has 6 discs or something. The biggest game in 2010!

/sarcasm

Maybe in the US of A. World wide, no.
I don't get it, everybody talks Halo numbers..but, Halo did not surpass GT numbers. Never.

For the record I don't own a 360, nor have I ever played halo. But with every new true sequel the sales have increased for Halo. Ok I will retract my statement saying it will sell more, but I will say they are going to be quite close in my opinion. It won't surprise me if reach sells more nor will it surprise me if GT5 sells more.

But like many people have said comparing these two games is like comparing apples and oranges.

you are right there mate, but when I look back at my younger days and I was playing games from the SFC / PS1 era, I don't really see the Japanese developers taking jabs at their competitions. They have a lot of respect towards each other, and they were really focusing on improving the quality of the games themselves and have their competition this way.

I guess it's more of an American way of marketing, huh? I don't know mate, I don't live in the States anyway.

i do confirm this is an american way of selling and advertising...

You can see that even in EVERY official public elections (whether city, county, state, or presidential)

Each candidate will have the "point-the-finger" technics toward its opponents...
(just as MS and Turn 10 and now this Halo guy)

Pretty lame way to promote yourself should i say...

I guess people have been so used to reading tabloids...:dunce: they are even applying that way in their commercials...
... but i digress.

You think it's a joke just like the last dozens of them he made. He's totally serious about it though, that's the thing :P

You do know Dan Greenwalt is not the same person as Aaron Greenberg, right?

I'm not condoning the comments, but you do realize it's the reporters that bring up the competition during the interview.

It doesn't make it any less despicable or wrong.

AG and DG share the same mouths....

It is the reporter's job, i agree, but it is also AG responsibility to choose his words ... in this case, the reporter got exactly what he wanted... AG and DG are too dumb to "fight" honorably...

Havent reporters brought that competition to Kaz as well, and what did he say??

Halo Reach will probably sell more, all halo's do, GT5 will sell a whole hell of a lot, but i doubt anything other than MW2 will beat Halo, and i doubt that will happen.

You so totally fail it's actually funny.

Halo Sales:
Halo: Combat Evolved (5 million)
Halo 2 (8 million)
Halo 3 (8.1 million)
Halo 3: ODST (3 million)

Total = 24.1 million copies

Gran Turismo Sales:
Gran Turismo (10.85 million shipped)
Gran Turismo 2 (9.37 million shipped)
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (14.89 million approximately: 7.14 million in North America, 1.89 million in Japan, 5.85 in Europe)
Gran Turismo 4 (10.76 million approximately: 2.97 million in North America, 6.36 in Europe, 1.26 in Japan)
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (3.94 million)

Total = 49.81 million copies

Source.

So for every halo sold, there's two GT's sold. HALO FAIL!! No Halo has matched a FULL Gran Turismo game in sales.

Like Joey said, Gran Turismo....it's serious business.

Quite, Sony's gonna put the 360 in the bargain bin by next summer.

+1 👍 this!

Halo is overrated and overhyped, does a Halo fan actually want another Halo game, one that seems to be rushed, since the last one came out less than one year ago?
Halo won't help Microsoft to sell consoles either, since every major Halo fanboy allready has an Xbox360. I bet the RROD caused more people to buy a new Xbox360 than Halo 3 did.

Umm your numbers are a bit off....:)

Gran Turismo 10,850
Gran Turismo 2 9,370
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14,890
Gran Turismo Concept Series 1,560
Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” 1,350
Gran Turismo 4 10,830
Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” 4,170
Total: 53,020

Halo is an XBOX exclusive game SO IT WON'T BE THE BIGGEST GAME OF 2010. I don't think that GT5 would be the one(exclusive, non gentle for begginers etc.) because it is gonna be Final Fantasy 13 man....

I guess GT5 will sell 12-13 million copies (lifetime)
Halo Reach probably 8-9 million copies (lifetime)

That would mean Halo Reach will be the best selling Halo of all time, but it still won't match GT5. I think GT5 will sell like GT3, or a little bit less, since the competition is better this generation.

Why doesn't Microsoft talk about how 90% of their consoles have died within the first year of use.

My figures aren't off....wikipedia's are. :P

He didn't need the padding of the Concepts and Prologues to prove his point.

Well he did have GT5P in his list.

And its incredible how much GT5P is still selling. :dopey:

Sorry, I missed that. 👍

EDIT: he didn't even have to include that one either.

I used GT5P as an example that even as a "demo", it's still sold more than H3: ODST has! ;)

How do you guys think the install base will affect sales? I'm presuming there are less PS3's around today than there were PS2's when GT4 was released? We might see slower initial sales but might reach the same numbers as GT4 over time?

EDIT: At the same time I guess more copies of GT4 was pirated when it was released and since pirating isn't possible on the PS3 as far as I'm aware that could affect the sales positively =)

You can quote me on this but Halo Reach will sales around ODST and maybe lower. People have been waiting a long time for games like Starcraft 2, God of War III, Metal Gear Raiden, Splinter Cell, Twisted Metal, Alan Wake and ofcourse Gran Turismo 5. This gen there have already been 3-4 Halo games.

I hope this doesn't turns into Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather situation :). Any boxing fan here?

Who really knows. I personally know 3 people waiting for GT5 to hit before they buy PS3's. Going by the current install base and seeing that GT5P sold over 4 million its a good indication that the game will do very well.

I liked boxing until Don King ruined it...Still better than MMA though.

And I'm going to go against my countryman and go with Mayweather.

Halo has milked it for all it's worth, and it shows. No one wants to play Halo anymore, so I'll be surprised to see how Halo Reacharound sales are.

GT5 however, will outsell FM3 without a doubt, as well as FM4, probably combined. Hell GT5P even out sold FM2.. If less than a demo outsells your full game... on a less inferior system (just saying because not as many have been sold) then you need to go back to the drawing board. GT5 though will sell thousands of consoles. Even people not really interested in gaming are going to pick up a PS3 because they know how serious GT is.. And I think when sales rocket SCEI might realized they should've pushed for a earlier release

Jay
GT5P reached platinum status on pre orders alone.

Maybe GT5 will become the best selling PS3 game on pre orders alone!

Aaron Greenberg can seriously suck on my reproductive organ for all I care. He's like a stupid hardcore fanboy who happens to work in the PR agency of one of the big console manufacturer and just making it worse for everyone.

 Nice 👍

Next year, he added, Xbox 360 will "continue to remain $100 cheaper than PS3"
Picture this - I'm standing in an electronics store and there's a big stack of 360s with a big sign on top that says "$0 - FREE!!!!!" and right next to it is a big stack of PS3s with a sign on top that says "$100". I pick up a 360, hold it as high above my head as I can until all the other patrons are staring at me. Then I SMASH the thing as hard as I can into the ground! Then I start jumping up and down on top its remains while laughing maniacally. Then I grab a PS3 and pay $100 for it. Sorry MS but a >50% failure rate amounts to 100% epic fail from where I sit. You'd have to pay me - a lot more than the price of a 360 - before I'd stomach having one in my home.

And for me, Sony VS. Microsoft fanboyism doesn't even come into it. If Microsoft wasn't so utterly reprehensible, my feelings for Sony and MS would probably be about the same. As it is I find them both pretty detestable.

I don't own a PS3. I pretty much hate all consoles. However if GT5 is good enough (meaning GT4 had way too many bugs for my taste), I will buy a PS3 to play it.

Who really knows. I personally know 3 people waiting for GT5 to hit before they buy PS3's. Going by the current install base and seeing that GT5P sold over 4 million its a good indication that the game will do very well.
Exactly.

I don't think the 360 will drop lower than a PS3, although it should, it has a lot of money to make up for a 56% failure rate. Not to mention it goes to show you the worth of a PS3, a 360 is going to have to revamp to a Blu Ray player, WITH backwards compatibility on all models so people can continue to play their 'best selling games' which will put the price of the nex gen Xbox over the top for price.

2010 and beyond will set off Sony and reset them in the thrown of top selling consoles and games. PS2 was the best selling of all time, and with all the perks of being a lot more user friendly and free online, along with all the good games coming out I think a lot of people will make the switch for 2010

No, if you look Closely it says K (meaning thousands) so 10,850 k = 10 850 000

So wikipedia was correct
