The server is back up now.

Not that anyone noticed. :(

I noticed!
I built a new pc which copes with minecraft's bad coding, it gets me 230fps on average in high settings and over 1000 when looking at the sky on superflat ^_^ I should be on minecraft a lot more now

Also ages ago Lewis (Turtle3412) griefed on my account ages ago, sorry about that...

About how much would said pc cost to build? I'm thinking about doing the same but don't have a ton of money.

turtlenajder
FX-8320 cpu
16gb Corsair Vengeance Ram
Asus 650ti boost graphics card
Zalman ZM600-GT psu
Western digital caviar blue 1tb hdd
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 Motherboard
CiT Vantage case

Mine was 400 when I bought it a year ago, only added a HDD since. Would run almost anything with 4GB RAM and Motherboard upgrade.

ATi FX 4400 series quad CPU
4GB RAM
AMD HD-7770 graphics card
Gigabyte something or other motherboard.
500GB HDD
2000GB Seagate Barracuda HDD (Bought myself for £60ish
Cheap case with 4 fans, 800watt PSU, Optical drive, and 6 USB ports.

Still going strong a year later. Well apart from a Win7 bug which means I'm reinstalling now.

I'm curious to know if anybody here knows any good mods that adds more hostile mobs to the game? Personally, I don't think there's enough enemy variety in Minecraft.

Single player I'm not sure. SMP there are tons. I'm thinking about adding some to the server.

Just had fun over at DQuaN server.

I've added a new way to get the Legend rank.

Refer three friends! Once they've completed the trials, have them type '/refer <yourname>'.

Minecraft Pocket Edition recently was upgraded to Alpha 0.7.4. I didn't really notice anything new, but the changes were noted in the Minecraft Wiki here:

http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Pocket_Edition_version_history#A0.7.4

I haven't been playing MCPE as much recently. Part of the reason is because I kind of want to get a tablet PC to play MCPE rather than with my portable media player. So I don't play it much as I would like to. I am still thinking of how to populate my second Creative world. I am currently in one of the two desert settings in my second Creative world.

The server has been quite busy of late. :D

John, would you like to do a remote session at some point and I can have a look at your java and see if we can get MC working on the PC?

No, that's okay. I am just going to put aside any effort to play Minecraft or get MC running.

I went back on today and about 200 coloured blocks of wool surrounding my house has gone, along with the carpets etc. Some wood has also been stolen and the place is just ransacked. Can anyone with correct authority analyse the crime scene and spawn it back for me? Thanks.

Where was your house?

Also, are you aware that you can use a gold shovel to claim blocks? If you do that around your house it will be impossible to be greifed.

Yeah, but its really difficult to do for me because my house is in a really awkward place

Can we sort out something for getting more claim blocks cause I can't have much more than a small house atm because i can't claim the land :(

also who are the moderators at current because i've only seen one in the last few days that i've been playing, i'd be happy to re-assume my post as moderator if need be :D

I'm having a little issue claiming land, somebody has claimed what is basically empty land and I'm finding it impossible to claim my whole house because of it.

A few noobish questions I hope you old timers can help with, I could Google but the results could well be a tad random. I first tried Minecraft last year, downloaded a "free" build which seemed to be a relatively early version, was enjoying it lots then realised it perhaps wasn't entirely legit, so I bought it and thankfully (though I wasn't overly bothered) my world/save remained intact.

I think I updated the client, to some extent at least, as I don't think I previously had a few things like cats, villagers etc (though yet to meet any villagers)

I like the game a lot and played it what felt like tons in Survival mode but because I got it relatively late, was way behind most of the current gamers, modders and whatnot.

However, watching series on Youtube like that of the excellent "X" I felt there was still tons to do with my relatively vanilla version, and had read others lament all the changes that have been made over the years.

Anyway, onto my questions:

1. Having not played it for most of a year, it is now asking me if I want to update, as I currently have build 1.4.6. I take it this will not affect my world in any way, just add more creatures and features? But if I create a new world are there some differences in geography/geology now? I remember reading that mountains etc are less spectacular? Why?

2. Did I also read that the most up to date version lets you roll back to a previous version anyway?

3. I'm trying to get a friend into it and want to play multiplayer, but ideally just the two of us for now. She has a Mac, and me a PC, can we inhabit the same world, and would this world need to be hosted on one of our computers? Or do we really need to find a more dedicated server? My PC is fairly nifty, I would say.

4. Less important question, I noticed in the xbox demo that I started with a few things like a workbench, which seemed a shame, much more fun to hit the ground running and craft such things from scratch. Do the more recent releases hold your hand like this? If so I would advise her against it, then perhaps update when she is settled in some.

Hope you guys can help with some of these questions =)

1, Yes nothing will change. As you explore new areas, they will be generated using the newer world generator. Not sure about mountains, they look the same to me.

2, Yes the latest launcher lets you create profiles. Each profile can be a different version.

3, One of you can set up a server like the one that I run. You could connect to her or she to you, it doesn't matter and is compatible cross platforms. You could always hop on to my server. It is empty most of the time and recently has had 4 or 5 people online. It also has even more features that you may enjoy. The address is play.torinet.eu

4, Never played the xBox version but PC and Mac you start with nothing if you are doing survival.

Thanks for covering everything off! We will try with me hosting the server at first, may try other servers everntually, thanks for the offer :)

For those who play in Survival mode, how do you deal with creepers sneaking up on you? I was fighting two zombies outside of my home one morning, when a creeper decided to join the fun and exploded behind me. I was fine thanks to my diamond armor, but the railroad connected to my home wasn't so lucky. I'm really starting to find creepers more annoying than dangerous. 👎
