I miss the old tekkit server. You can make some really cool stuff with it. Why don't you just make your server tekkit again DQuan?
We're playing on another tekkit server atm. I'd say you can join if you want.

Funny you should say that actually...

tekkit.torinet.eu :)

I'm working on linking the two servers together.

Or that.

More Minecraft musings...

* I made my first-ever Nether portal, and I also entered the Nether. Funny since I made my world from a Superflat, the Nether is also flat. I know I'm not going to be able to make as vibrant a world as my main world with the Nether. However, I am pretty sure whatever I do create is going to be quite different from my overworld creations.

* I saw a skeleton ride a spider in my Creative world for the first time. I attacked both in Fly Mode using my bow and arrows. I first took down the spider followed by the skeleton.

* I'd love to see horses in Minecraft PS3. It would be an enjoyable form of transport to me. I'd even be interested trying to turn horses into fairy horses or whatever.

* Some beginner advice... if you actually explore the Tutorial land of the PS3 Minecraft, you can find all kinds of cool stuff. Don't just do the tutorials... explore the land after the tutorials (if doing them)! I found some of those music CDs as well as some unique enchanted stuff.

* Final thing I wanted to discuss... I explored the limits of the Minecraft PS3 world. When I found that I could not place blocks in a certain area, I basically figured out the limits of the Minecraft world. So what I did was make some sort of design noting the "out of bounds" boundaries of the Minecraft world to where I could no longer build something in that area. Having said that, and as a player of Minecraft Pocket Edition, you can actually do a whole lot with the space in the Minecraft PS3 edition (and XBOX 360 edition) than most people seem to complain over. Maybe you don't get infinite worlds, but you get a whole lot you can do and use unless you're expecting to make extremely massive structures that could be made using PC Minecraft.

Still enjoying this experience. Have yet to be disappointed.

Then you better hope it doesn't take them as long as it did on PC. PS3 is currently equal to 1.2.3, which was released about 1.5 years before the horse update (1.6).

Playing the PS3 demo thinking I should try it before I buy it, in case I wouldn't like it (Despite watching YouTube videos of it all the time and reading up on everything on the wiki).

I love it. I can tell I won't regret purchasing this game. Also, the tutorial level has a great design. Props to the team at Mojang 4J Studios and for creating such a friendly and inviting atmosphere for new players. A lot of games these days feel cold and sterile, or dark and gritty.

EDIT: Does anyone know what FPS Minecraft runs at on PS3? I'm assuming its 30 FPS, but it feels much more smooth than GTA V (30 FPS), but slightly less than Gran Turismo 6 (60 FPS).

Minecraft PS3 seems to run at 60 FPS. However, last night, the game kind of lagged at about 30 frames per second as it was raining and I was around my world.

And yes- the Tutorial world is great. For the most part, a tutorial is mostly supposed to mostly just present the main aspects of the game and teach them to newcomers. This tutorial world doesn't encourage you to explore the rest of the world. However, you aren't off-limits from the rest of the Tutorial world. You are basically rewarded if you look around outside of the tutorial space and outside of the castle and the little farm area. You just have to make sure you're prepared with weapons and some armor when going away from the main tutorial areas. And get ready to be screwed with- as I was killed by monsters, followed by a suicide fall, followed by a Creeper getting right up in my face and blowing up... I recommend you save your game if going around the Tutorial map so you can try to find all the individual stuff, such as trying to find all of the chests that have music CDs and enchanted tools.

So far, I've found four of the 12 CDs in the Tutorial world. I may give it another go later to try to find the remaining eight.

If it's the same as on xbox 360, then it runs at 60fps with v-sync on.

How do you enable V-sync on PS3?

Also, is it just me, or is there a severe sound bug with Ghasts? Normally, they track you and play their sounds from 100 blocks (Or meters) away. On the PS3 version, I almost jumped out of my skin when I got hit directly by a fireball. I didn't even know there was a Ghast around. I'm assuming the Ghast doesn't play sounds from 16 blocks away, similar to all other mobs.

Do you think they will ever upgrade tekkit? I can't believe its still 1.2.5! Yesterday I was putting a roof on my tekkit house and the stair block didn't wrap around the corner. That's when I remembered it was still 1.2.5, of course I can just cut some blocks with the handsaw.

The devs do.

Well, they made tekkit lite, which is on 1.4.7.

They also made a completely new tekkit, the actual "tekkit". It is based on 1.5.2, but says bye to many mods such as IC2 and Redpower. It's using a space setting, which does actually look quite interesting. I haven't really tried it yet, but I'll do in next time. I'm curious how good it is.

EDIT: Had a first look at it: I'm lost by looking at all those new mods, no idea how to use that stuff. BUT I found a fusion reactor! And radioactive earth! Lunar vehicles! Lasers! Hazmat suit! Rockets! EDIT2: You can literally fly to the moon...
It would take me weeks to understand all that stuff though...

Sounds kinda interesting. I might have to give it a try. Thanks dr_slump.

A lot happened to me last night. I managed to successfully defeat a Creeper with a sword, and I also defeated an Enderman. I was also able to mine several different ores. Among them (and besides coal)- redstone ore, golden ore, and diamond ore. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any iron ores, which I was trying to find so I could finally get that trophy for smelting an Iron Ingot. I got stuck underground and basically dug upwards to try to find my way back up to solid land. My enchanted diamond pickaxe held its own.

All of this occured in the Tutorial World. Also, let's just say I got up to the "Minecraft" display and found something interesting up there. I found 7 of the 12 CDs now in the Tutorial World. Something tells me that one or more of those chests may be underwater.

Still enjoying the ride.

Downloaded Tekkit. Played around with the Tekkit classic, it's running a little slow. Not sure if it's too many mods running or that's just they way it works. The world it generated was a rather nice jungle type setting, with birds and crickets noise in the background. Was this normal for the older versions of minecraft or is that a benefit of Tekkit?

When I change my minecraft skin, it stays as my new skin... But, when I either die or go to another online server, the skin changes back to the default skin. How do I keep it from doing this? Im on the pc version, if that makes any difference.

The secret to playing old school tekkit (equivalent exchange 2) is not to use converters but only condensers. I made it up to red matter pretty shortly and this way I didn't stop going to mine. On the contrary you want to mine more since even coal is valuable!

Its one of the many mods in tekkit.

More progress on my Minecraft PS3 experience...

* I had a wicked night last night traversing through The Nether. It has been absolutely crazy! As a note- this was from my Tutorial World experience. I killed my first Ghast as well as successfully knocking a fireball back at a Ghast. I even killed Zombie Pigmen and Magma Cubes. My enchanted Diamond Pickaxe got quite a workout mining Netherrack like crazy. I even kept using and reusing most Netherrack blocks just to try to find my way out of the Nether. I even picked up items like Nether Brick, Ghast Tears, Golden Nuggets, and more. I didn't get anything like Soul Sand or Nether Wart, though. Yes- I was stuck in the Nether trying to find out how to get out. I eventually found my way upwards to get back to the Nether Portal. The strategy of making a tower of bricks to eventually get up to the top of a certain place worked very well. I had done almost everything in the Nether except for meet and/or beat a Blaze. So I'll have to return to the Nether, find a Blaze, and kill one.

* One other thing about the Nether... a PSN friend talked about the music played in the Nether. C418 has done a lovely job with the Nether's music! Certainly a different tone compared to the softer music in the Overworld.

* In the C418 CD-finding Tutorial quest, I now have found 9 of the 12 CDs.

* The map is very helpful in helping detail how massive your world is. I flew around my Creative Mode world thinking I've covered and populated most of the space allowed. Turns out... there's a LOT more land I haven't yet covered! I'm telling you- even without the infinite worlds of PC Minecraft, you can still do a whole lot with a whole lot of space in console Minecraft. That's granted you aren't trying to build ridiculously massive structures that take up a good chunk of map space and height.

This has all been a crazy experience!

I even killed Zombie Pigmen and Magma Cubes.

I do like reading posts from folks just getting in to MC (I've played it a lot but still feel like a beginner), however make it easy on yourself, Zombie Pigmen are neutral mobs and only attack you if you attack them ;)

I know Zombie Pigmen are neutral, but I wanted to attack them anyways just to gain some experience in battling them. I'd rather screw with the regular Zombies than the Zombie Pigmen! Only good thing is that I don't keep racking up all the Rotten Flesh from killing off regular Zombies. Another good thing about the Nether (if there is such a thing as anything "good" about the Nether)- no Creepers! The Ghasts are still a nuisance. Even more so than Creepers.

I've spent a decent amount of time on DQ's server. When I first arrived I picked out a nice little spot on a river bank at the base of mountain to build my home. The spot is not too far from the main spawn point, so I figured it should be secluded enough. The house is completely underground, I did have to move a lot dirt and plant more trees to make it look more natural. Also built a small bridge to cross the river for faster access to the dense forest I've started, and planted sugar cane along the river banks. I've also started to build a small stable, that will hopefully house the animals I'll need to help finish decorating my house. Need leather for books, and wool for beds. Wood is not a problem I've packed saplings in as close as they can grow so theres a nice selection to work with.

As for the spot being secluded, it would appear I have a neighbor. I found a wooden house on top of the next mountain over from mine. Also there are torches in sime pretty random locations. I did find a mine that has glass blocks and wood stairs. And sign that read about this being a vanilla server, and if enough work was done would be carried over to a new bukkit world?

Oh yeah I need to get rid of that.

When MC updated to 1.7.2, we had to wait a really long time for bukkit to release a server. I created a vanilla world for people to use temporarily and then ended up using it for the bukkit world.

I finally replaced my laptop screen and am going to be active on the server again.

Is anyone else having issues with claims? I just re-claimed my house (with tons of great stuff inside), but am not sure which other claims I had before.

Also decided to make a few ender chests just in case something goes wrong again... :)

I can claim one piece of land, but if I try to claim a second piece it removes the first claim. So not sure if
using it correctly or not.

On a side note, GT-R hopefully you'll understand why I'm setting you on fire next time I see you.

You can create as many claims as you like providing you have enough claim blocks. The server will tell you how many claim blocks you have when you select your golden shovel.

You can find your other claims by looking at the dynmap.

Your claims will only disappear if you stand it it and do /abandonclaim, stand anywhere and do /abandonallclaims, or are not active on the server for a long time.

I keep getting cutoff and I get a Java SE Binary error. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java and Minecraft but its still happening. Any ideas?
