Maybe you should charge to play? Evidently its not cool to play on a free server these days.

Mojang is going to start going after servers that make profit this way. I think Notch is getting irritated that servers owners are banking doing a very minimal amount of effort. Especially considering how much work modders put in to their packs without forcing anyone to pay.That or Blizzard it's sick of realms competition.

/nick is only for higher ranked players.

Official page indicates it's out (updated 8 hours ago), Minecraft wiki includes it in Version History now rather than forthcoming features. I can't log in right now either but I think it's safe to assume it's out

Yep, just doing some maintenance on the server in preparation. Now we just have to wait for spigot to update.

Well, the current version of Spigot says it's compatible with 1.7 and 1.8 which is a bit odd. Unless it was based on a pre-release or something. Maybe we should generate a world and see if the structures and stuff are in it.

It is compatible, but only with the launcher. It is MC 1.7.10 that can run on a 1.8 client.

We'll just have to wait for now.

Anything from a few days to a month.

I could set up a vanilla 1.8 server in the meantime

This is what we did on the last big update instead of waiting for the server software to update.

We can play now, just without the normal plugins. When it's updated I'll incorporate the world back in to the server.

Spending some time in the new world on the server.. found a small island near a large Savannah,and have managed to build a small home. Have already fought off a spider and a mob of zombies. There's rabbits everywhere, but have yet to kill or capture one though.

Starting over with no inventory has been kind of nice.. but I do miss my tool collection and farm I had going.

Has anyone found a village yet? I need vegetables lol

As a watcher of various internet series I do like the idea of simply having a central point around which everyone can build their own structures. People can of course then branch out further afield, but a varied central community we've built ourselves would be nice, rather than everyone simply disappearing off to the corners of the map and doing their own thing.

That's too mainstream @CallmeDan, what about a flush floor trap that pushes players into the void?

@DQuaN, a nice block combination is sandstone and brick. You could also add quartz, mineral blocks etc.
