Thought I'd log into the server for a short while to see what's what. Making decent progress so far - no house to speak of, but managed to find a bunch of diamonds and other ores. Distinct lack of animals about near spawn though, so living off bread and fish. If it's good enough for Jesus etc...

Picked up the PS4 version last night. Just need to transfer my saves from PS3. I wish they would do shaders for the console versions, MC can look so pretty with the better shaders and texture packs.

Is there any particular method for finding diamonds? A fair few hours have been devoted to finding the 🤬 things only to yield but a handful.

Three observations:

- I do not like silverfish
- The server is totally lag-tastic in that section of savanna in front of the extreme hills near spawn. Fine everywhere else. Any clues? Rampant spawning below the surface?
- Anyone know where any sheep are at? I'm still yet to be able to make a bed!

Also, @DQuaN, is there a dynamic map yet for the server? Would be good to get an idea of the lay of the land.

Nope, and there wont be for some time.

*edit*

I could generate an offline map for you though :).

If you could, that would be great - but I don't want to put you out. If it's gonna be a faff I don't mind not having one.

So portals are not my preferred method of travel.

Built a portal in the GTcave and ended up in the nether where someone else had already been.:grumpy:

Try to come back to the GTcave but again end up somewhere I don't want to be.

I'm in some underground building that makes no sense how it was built, near the spawn point.

Why can I not get back to my own portal?

@GT5Power I'm going to need those cords again... I'm lost.

Underground building near the spawn point? My base vaguely meets that description, though I'd struggle to call a polished diorite-lined hole a "building".

Hmmm polished diorite? This place was pretty big. Way to large to be a "hole". But if it was yours please forgive my review. The portal ended up taking me there unexpectedly and having never been there before took awhile to find a way out. ( without smashing my way thru. )

Can't have been mine, just been on and there wasn't a portal anywhere to be seen!

Logged off again for now though. Getting pretty bad lag. Strip mining and it was bad enough to seal me in a tunnel I'd just dug, then put me inside a few blocks, then unsealed itself again all of its own doing. For some reason the last few times I've logged into the server it's also put me in the middle of some blocks! Took 14 seconds to open a chest too... suspect there are some connection issues on my end (internet has been pretty lousy over the last few days) but until I've built myself a more secure home I'm carrying all my valuables and don't particularly want to lose them by dying inside a block or something...

An easy way to test if a block contains a Silverfish is to hit a block with your fist. Don't break the block, but get close to destroying it. If it is mined faster than regular blocks of the same type, it contains a Silverfish. If when you are mining and notice it wears down quickly, avoid that block and move on. Break the Silverfish block ONLY if you have a weapon that can kill it in one hit. The more times you hit a Silverfish, the more times it will "call out" to others and exponentially spawn more Silverfish.

One of the worst possible things you can do is to throw a Poison potion at them or set multiple ones on fire.

Yeah, I knew the former as I'd watched a few videos. Alternatively, if it takes longer to mine using a pick than a regular block of its type, then it has a silverfish in it.

The latter I found out to my cost when I had about four of them chasing me. Luckily I dispatched all the ones in the area but it wasn't fun having loads appear as I was trying to kill the first! I didn't really think of going around the block - I've just been strip mining and going in perfectly straight lines!

This is sound advice but for the fact that blocks containing silverfish are harder to mine/break, not easier.

EDIT: Tree'd, sorta. Perhaps it differs whether you use a fist or a pick? But I thought they always took longer.

I'm a little concerned about Endermites, not tried 1.8 yet but a bunch of those potentially whenever an Enderman teleports is going to be a real pain. They are supposedly tougher than silverfish too.

Life underground is not too bad.

My goal is to set up a community shop for everyone to get supplies from.

I managed to find some sheep. One was stuck on a cliff, the other was in a swamp area.
Sadly, only one made it back to the cave alive.

As for the underground tree farm, I built the portal to the nether so I could collect glowdust.
However, after the misadventure I posted earlier using the portal, I never did find any. But,
I found the torches I had set up at the tree farm had done the job while I was away.
So, it kind of defeated the purpose of building the portal in the first place.

The cow farm has grown, going to have to find a new space for all of them soon.

I've built a small wheat and pumpkin farm. (again) Things grow pretty well with torch light.

I'd like to have some carrots and potatoes, but I think its going to be along time before I come across any.

What coordinates are your base at, @crunchMONKY78? I may have a snoop around later :) I also intend to make a map and go traveling around the world a bit; partly to find sheep, and partly to give myself an in-game handle on what the land around spawn is like.

Out of respect the cave was started by @GT5Power send him a pm for the coordinates. If he never gets back to you, let me know and I'll send them to you.

At some point I'd like to set up roads that lead to general areas. Not quite door to door, but more like if someone is looking for spruce wood, or swamp land., etc...just follow the right road.
