The astra will be fast in a line no doubt but when it tries to turn its meant to oversteer too much. It does look nice though but with the new type-r arriving soon and the new focus st220, new clio sport and te new seat leon cupra I think it will be thoroughly beaten.

Oh and the astra vxr is on sale now.

Honda aren't continuing the type-r name anymore. And the astra I dont think it will be thoroughly beaten in the slightest, it will be the nicest looking thats for certain - i like the focus but the new leon is ugly and for the new clio it is horrible.

End of the line for Type R

f you've always promised yourself a new Honda Civic Type R, you'd better get a move on - they're going fast. The last example of the hot hatch has already rolled off the production line at the firm's plant in Swindon, Wilts, and there are fewer than 900 left unsold across the country.

The 197bhp Type R won the title of Best Sporting Car in Auto Express's New Car Honours in 2003, and with more than 35,000 finding homes worldwide, the model has proved a big hit.

The last Type R to leave the plant was a Nighthawk Black car. With its powerful 2.0-litre engine and six-speed manual gearbox, the three-door hatch completes the 0-62mph sprint in a mere 6.8 seconds. Honda's initial predictions estimated UK sales would peak at 1,500 models each year, but 18,033 examples have found homes since its introduction in 2001.

The new five-door Civic arrives in January, priced from £12,685. But fans of the Type R will be disappointed - as there is no direct replacement planned. However, bosses are evaluating a hot three-door model.

Does anyone know if its the end of the Type-r for good - im sure i heard there will be no more Honda Type-r's produced again, or just the Civic Type-r?

also, whats not the like about the i-vtec engines? they seem like a good progression to me.

Thats the thing they are a progression....... for economy, Fair enough the EP3 CTR had excellent power but not as aggressive as it could have been.

220 hp from a naturally aspirated 2.0? That's plenty aggressive. Honda is butting up against the point where horsepower and torque take very divergent paths. It might be difficult to improve on the current series without turbocharging.

Word is, there will be a Type R line for the next Civic. And a Type RR, following Honda's naming convention for special edition sportsbikes... supposedly.

Nice one......

My sources have indicated rather strongly about a new civic type-r actually.

Whats wrong with what i said? in that article and many others i heard honda arent going to make the Civic type-r anymore, and maybe not continue the type-r name again, i just asked if this was forever! which you obviously read as if i was contradicting myself!

It was only (i know its alot) 197bhp - the Integra Type-R DC5 had the same engine but with a more aggressive setup and had 220bhp.

EDIT; Just thought i would add,

When honda revealed the new shape of the 06 Civic (the orange one which used to be on the website) at that stage it was their plan to make a 2.4liter 240bhp Civic type-r but now they have apparently scrapped their plans and arent continuing production of type-r.

I think it would have been big news if there wasnt going to be another type-r especially after its popularity. And like niky said Ive also heard about the possibility of a type RR

I've heard someone mention something about a Type-RR before, whats that all about? just suppose to be more 'Race Ready'? or something? Yeah it would be big news but why would articles like that arrise? No mention of a Type-R is on the honda website what so ever and it used to be.

I-vtec is moving in the right direction..

but I still don't like the FEEL of the K series compared to the B series..

A B series engine felt like the engine was sitting on the ground..pushing the car along with itself..

The K series just feels like it's muffled...

but..That's me...

the k series engine is a good motor. the problem is that honda retards the timing when you step on the gas by about 8%-14%. honda is also really into the drive by wire in which the throttle is electronic. both these things hinder the k series. after market tuners like hondata are, i think, working on the timing issue though.

now as to no type r, honda wont get rid of it. no way. they may not have one planed now due to the model being new but there will probably be a 2008 civic type r.

I will admit to being absolutely shocked at finding the looks of the new Civic Coupe not unpleasant at all.

Really, not a bad looking little car...of course, it's not so little these days.

All cars are getting bigger... :(

Eventually the Civic will be Honda's mid-size car, the Accord will be the luxury sedan, and they'll probably revive the "City" name for their mainstream compact hatch...

maybe they could bring the turbo model here to the states! they are going to bring the fit over here though so there is no reason for a new city.

i like the 2006 sedan. 1.8l sohc i-vtec. fun fun.

As for drive by wire, there are some mods you can do to reduce that lag... supposedly an aftermarket ground wire kit with a direct ground on the throttle body will improve response a lot.

Agreed, a big K-series lump is nowhere near as exciting or as manic as an older and smaller B-series, but the extra torque is quite nice.
