I keep saying that the Papelbon trade was a nightmare for Washington. Not because he wasn't a good player but because Storen has some mental issues that seem to surface outside of closing games.
He wasn't too happy about being moved out of that role for Papelbon either. Matt Williams got booed out of the post-game press conference. Nationals are imploding and it's oh-so-good.

Everybody's been chewing out the Nationals on their loss last night to the Mets after being ahead by a country mile. What was most intriguing, however, was someone in an editorial saying the Nationals' season "died" last night as a result of this gut-wrenching loss. I don't think it's an end-of-the-world loss. The Nationals have mostly been overrated garbage, at least as how most people have perceived them this season. Give credit where credit is due- the Mets are ballin'. The Mets can only beat themselves at this point if they are to make the postseason.

I haven't had much to say about the Reds. We've been pretty terrible. Either we pitch well but don't score any runs ourselves, or we finally do put some runs on the board in a game and then pitching blows it. At this rate, I'll just be happy if we don't lose 100 games. It's only happened once in the Reds' franchise.

There appear to only be a few players who seem to still care about the season, Votto being one of them. Tonight, he asked for time before a pitch, which ended up being called a strike, but it wasn't granted it by the umpire. So he had a word with the ump about not giving him time, then simply gestured toward the dugout, pleading for someone to help. Result? The ump promptly tossed him out of the game, and Votto went ballistic. He was getting some borderline calls against him all night on top of that. Anyway, I was glad to see some emotion from him, as it seems like most everyone else is just going through the motions waiting for the season to end. Price ended up getting himself thrown out too.

Nationals just got swept at home, by the Mets. 6th straight loss to New York and 3rd straight when they were leading the game after 5 innings. Mets are now 7 up.

That's two nights that Storen and Papelbon happened. 👍

Matt Williams got booed when he took Strausburg out of the game.

Astros on Parade? It was 11-5 in Oakland as we prevented getting swept at Oakland. Collin McHugh picked up the win for HOU. Why is this interesting? Well, this is the first time since 2005 that the Astros have had more than one 16-win pitcher. Of course, Dallas Keuchel is the other 16+ win pitcher for the Astros. Another stat from this game is that the Houston Astros tied the 2004 Detroit Tigers for most players on a team with double-digit home runs on the season with 11 Astros going yard 10+ times. Taking the loss for OAK was Aaron Brooks.

We get Thursday off, but up next... we're going to go down to Anaheim to entertain the Angels for a three-game weekend set. So it's the Houston Astros of Houston at the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starting this Friday night. We got to learn to win road games. We CERTAINLY have to win road games because looking further ahead, the Astros will be at the Texas Rangers for a four-game set. Now is NOT the time of the season to fail especially with every remaining game against AL West opponents excluding our final series at the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners, including the New York Mets sweeping the Washington Nationals in Washington, D.C.

New York Mets continue their hot streak. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games, 32-19 since the All Star Game (27-11 since trade deadline), and lead the league post all-star break in runs (283), tied for lead in HR (77) and lead in RBI (274). They won their 4th game in a row last night over the Atlanta Braves, 7-2. Colon was the winner and Shelby Miller continues his winless streak now at over 20 games. The Mets move 7.5 games ahead of the idle Nationals.

Mark Texiera is done for the season with a leg fracture. The New York Yankees 1B got this injury after fouling off a pitch to his foot in a game earlier this season. The Yanks are trying to hold off the Toronto Blue Jays for the AL East as well as the AL Wild Card. All the best in recovery for M. Texiera.

I learned that Astros pitcher Scott Feldman is done for the season with a sprained right shoulder. So our pitching rotation will take a hit from this.

For all the other teams, it's either continue that playoff push or play for the future. Whichever describes your favorite team(s), good luck to all of your teams moving forward.

Another win for the Mets. Another loss for the Nats. Mets number to clinch is now 14 with their 8.5 game lead in the division.

The Houston Astros have road game troubles, and they persisted tonight. Our latest fail was a 3-2 defeat at the Angels. A win (and almost a Perfect Game) by the Texas Rangers means the AL West race just got tighter. Victory went to Jered Weaver for LAA including a Save from Huston Street, and Dallas Keuchel got the defeat for HOU.

Congratulations to the other winners from Friday.

Tigers game got postponed. The talk here in Michigan (at least the news talk that is sports related) is that Ausmus is supposedly getting fired at the end of the year. Nobody knows for sure since current GM Al Avila said that isn't confirmed in the slightest, but that's something that a lot of people are talking about.

We lost 3-2 last night at the Angels. Tonight... same score, same result. Stuck on 76 wins while Texas and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim continually gain momentum. Only good Astros news is that the A's beat the Rangers 5-3. So not too much further damage done so far in AL West and AL Wild Card play. Other than that, it's just another fail for the Astros. If it isn't Midnight on the Astros, it's deceptively close to going back to reality. Joe Smith (win) and Huston Street (Save) ocmbine on the LAA win. Meanwhile, Will Harris took the loss for HOU. This series wraps up tomorrow afternoon.

Congratulations to the other Saturday winners. Too bad my Astros aren't among the ones who didn't fail today/tonight...

I'm so confused. The Reds have taken the first 3 of a 4 game set against the Cards. Not only that, but Friday night, before rain postponed the rest of the game until today in the 8th, the Reds stole 4 bases. That's the first time in Molina's career that he's allowed 4 stolen bases in one game. We've outscored the Cards something like 20-3 so far in the series. Let's go for the sweep! We may have had a crappy season, but it would still be awesome to get a rare 4 game sweep against those stinkin' birds, regardless of how meaningless it is for us, season wise. :dopey:

New York Mets take their 6th straight game in a 5-4 win over Atlanta. The Mets move to 81-61 on the year. They will look for their 2nd straight road series sweep today with Jonathon Niese on the bump. They are 9.5 games up on the swooning Nationals and their magic number is 12.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had a perfect game plan to beat my Astros- score three runs on us. LAA won 3-2 on Friday and 3-2 on Saturday. Today... the Angels put three runs on us; but this time, that strategy didn't work. We decided to score runs in the Top of the 9th and hang five unanswered runs to win 5-3 today. HOU's winner was Chad Qualls including a Save from Luke Gregerson. LAA's loser was Huston Street.

Up next... a CRUCIAL series at the Texas Rangers. Four games in this Battle for the Silver Boot series. Lone Star State pride is on the line. The Astros are basically going to have to win this series to ensure some insurance in making the postseason.

Congratulations to the other winners from Sunday.

A Texas team will win with the HOU at TEX series in Arlington, TX; but which? On Monday, it was Texas who defeated my Astros 5-3. TEX won with Keone Kela and a Save from Shawn Tolleson. HOU's loser was Will Harris. So far so bad for the Astros in this crucial four-game series. Three more chances to turn things around.

Congratulations to all other winners from Monday.

It was a fireworks show last night in Arlington, but the ones that fizzled out was my Astros. 6-5 was the score as Texas takes another game of this 4-game series. The f:censored: ups continued for HOU as we couldn't tame the Texas Rangers in a crucial stretch. Of course, I'm still not completely sold on the 2015 Astros despite our successes. TEX's winner was Shawn Tolleson. Oliver Perez was HOU's losing pitcher. Later tonight, time to go at it again.

Congratulations to Tuesday's other winners, including the Miami Marlins with a blowout win on the road at the New York Mets.

I said the Astros had to basically win this HOU at TEX series to keep hold of this great season. Tonight, we f:censored:ed up badly- losing by a tocuhdown and a field goal: 14-3, Texas. Texas may damn well sweep us tomorrow night to end this road trip for the Astros. Also, the Astros better get back on some hot streak and hope the Rangers and Angels somehow cool off. It was Martin Perez winning for TEX and Dallas Keuchel losing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for HOU.

Congratulations to everyone who didn't f:censored: up on this Wednesday night.

Mets lost 2nd straight last night and fell to 7.5 games ahead of Washington.

Milo Hamilton has died at age 88. He was the longtime radio announcer for the Houston Astros, not to mention famous for expressions like "Holy Toledo!" I enjoyed listening to his commentary. He brought unique flavor to Astros' games. The Astros may now be on a three-game losing streak, but this loss of Milo Hamilton hurts a whole lot. My thoughts and prayers go to Milo Hamilton and all whom have known and loved him.

I said Texas "may damn well sweep us." And... they did. Our 10-game road trip ends with an 8-2 loss at the Rangers tonight. We got outscored 33-13 in this four-game set. Texas is tough to beat at home, I take NOTHING away from Texas or their talent; but this is m:censored:f:censored:ing bulls:censored: to fail this bad at a crucial point of the season! We probably figure that now is the time to fail and give Texas the AL West and have to settle for a Wild Card race. Unless things improve in a hurry, this season is nearing becoming a lost cause. The win for TEX went to Colby Lewis, and HOU's loser was Lance McCullers.

Up next... the Astros will try to get out of this losing funk by hosting the Oakland Athletics back here in Houston for a three-game weekend series. TEX and LAA are going to have to screw up badly for the Astros to have any chance of winning the AL West now. They'll need even more help if we have to settle for a Wild Card.

Congratulations to Thursday's other winners.

We're 77-70 on the season heading into Friday night's game hosting the Athletics... make our record 77-71. So the Astros feel 77 wins is enough to make the playoffs, and we've now lost five straight games. Drew Pomeranz waas OAK's winner along with a Save from Ryan Dull. The losing pitcher for my freefalling Astros' was Pat Neshek. This curse, hex, or whatever this thing is... continues for HOU. Stuck on 77 wins and losing game after game in a crucial point of the season. Yay. Despite our successes, I'm still not completely convinced the Astros will be ahead of schedule or anything on being World Series contenders. They need to get back to winning in a hurry and hope everybody else screws up.

Congratulations to Friday's other winners.

The Astros' freefalling ways... are over. One in a row, baby! We remembered what winning feels like and how to win by beating the Oakland Athletics 10-6. Tomorrow afternoon's game will be the Rubber Game of this series. Chad Qualls picked up the win for HOU while Fernando Rodriguez was the OAK losing pitcher.

Elsewhere...

...congratulations to the St. Louis Cardinals on clinching a playoff berth. The Cardinals either needed to win at the Chicago Cubs or have San Francisco lose to Arizona in other to clinch a Playoff berth. St. Louis lost 5-4 at the Cubs, but the Diamondbacks not only beat San Francisco, they slapped them around a good bit with a 6-0 blanking in San Francisco. So St. Louis is IN!

We didn't fail! If your team(s) didn't fail either, congratulations to your team as well as every other who didn't lose this Saturday.

Another win! We apparently took the OAK at HOU series with a 5-1 win today. It was Collin McHugh picking up the win for HOU. Not to be confused with the former Houston Rocket, but Aaron Brooks was the losing OAK pitcher. That's 79 wins now for the Houston Astros Baseball Club.

Up next for the Astros... we're hosting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for a three-game set starting tomorrow night.

Congratulations to the other winners from Sunday.

So here comes the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for a three-game set. We won 6-3 tonight, but the bullpen nearly blew it. We had a 6-1 lead heading into the 9th. This win gives us 80 wins on the season. We are two wins away from a winning season, and the Astros haven't had a winning season since 2008 when the Astros finished that season 86-75 according to baseball-reference.com. Still, it's another win not only for the Astros but also to Dallas Keuchel (still unbeaten at home) and a Luke Gregerson Save. Jered Weaver picked up the loss for LAA.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners.

The Houston Astros were down and had a chance to complete a comeback, but it falls short. So we lost 4-3 in Houston hosting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Patrick's Angels won with Hector Santiago along with a Huston Street Save. It was yet another loss for Lance McCullers for HOU. Rubber Game of this series is tomorrow afternoon here in Houston.

Congratulations to Tuesday's other winners, including an almost combined no-hitter victory for Detroit hosting the Chicago White Sox.

I briefly want to post here in loving memory of Yogi Berra, who died recently at age 90. My thoughts and prayers are with all whom have known and loved this Yankees legend.
