We are all mourning the loss of the great Yogi Berra on this day. I never realized just how many quotes and such he made that still resonate today. Once again... my thoughts and prayers are with all whom have known and loved Yogi Berra.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took down my Astros 6-5 here in Houston. The Astros had to come from behind but couldn't rally to a victory. Trevor Gott was LAA's winning pitcher, and Huston Street got the Save. HOU's losing pitcher was Will Harris.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... after some soul searching and after getting Thursday off, we're going to have to deal with the Texas Rangers here in Houston for a three-game weekend set. This is an even more crucial series than the LAA at HOU series. If if the Astros lose this series, their AL West hopes pretty much are dead. Best case- sweep TEX. Worst case- swept by TEX.

Congratulations to Wednesday's other winners.

My Astros didn't play today. Despite this, I just wanted to post on who is in for the postseason. Currently...

* St. Louis (clinched playoff berth)

The latest inclusions:

* Kansas City is IN! (clinched AL Central)
* Pittsburgh is IN! (clinched playoff spot)

And so here is the updated postseason list:

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* Kansas City: AL Central champs

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* St. Louis: clinched playoff berth
* Pittsburgh: clinched playoff berth

Congratulations on becoming part of the postseason! More to come as this season nears the end.

The Houston Astros will be playing their final home series of the season this weekend, and they are doing so hosting the Texas Rangers. So far... falling and can't get up. Our latest fail was 6-2 against the Texas Rangers. TEX's winning pitcher was Ross Ohlendorf while Scott Kazmir was HOU's loser. Game 2 of 3 is tomorrow afternoon. The Saturday game will be on FOX, so I'm sure the nation can see my Astros freefall at the worst time as Midnight struck on my beloved baseball team. Our record is now 80-74 with this latest loss.

Friday's other winners get love from me, so congratulations to the winners on today/tonight.

Maybe I was too much a pessimist. We ended up winning 9-7 just now here in H-Town against the Texas Rangers. Winning for HOU was Collin McHugh and a Save from Will Harris. The loser for TEX was Chi Chi Gonzalez. Rubber Game of the series is tomorrow afternoon. Almost basically a must-win for the Astros tomorrow.

Elsewhere (as of the time of this post)...

* Toronto is IN! They clinched a Playoff berth recently. They knocked off Tampa Bay 10-8 earlier today.

* The Mets can clinch the NL East with a win at CIN or with a Washington Nationals loss. I think the Los Angeles Dodgers can clinch the NL West (or a playoff berth) with a win and a loss by San Francisco.

So here is the updated Playoff list:

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* Toronto (clinched berth)
* Kansas City (clinched AL Central)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* New York Mets (clinched NL East)
* St. Louis (clinched berth)
* Pittsburgh (clinched berth)
* Chicago Cubs (clinched berth)

Congratulations to all of Saturday's winners.

[UPDATE] Any updates to the postseason contenders are listed in italics.

Detroit Tigers GM Al Avila announced today that he will retain manager Brad Ausmus for the 2016 season. I actually agree with that decision because frankly no manager would do well with the crap Detroit team that previous regimes put together. Even the other possible replacements would suck because you can't do well when you have a garbage rotation and a garbage bullpen.

The Astros' final home series of the regular season ends in... a win! We took out the Texas Rangers 4-2 to win this series. Everything from here on out will be the Astros trying to win while hoping the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are kept at bay in the battle for the 2nd AL Wild Card slot. Undefeated at home Dallas Keuchel remains so by picking up the win along with a Save from Luke Gregerson. For TEX, Martin Perez was the losing pitcher.

Up next for Houston... the final two series of the regular season are on the road, and we're not a good road team. So the Astros will pay a visit to the Seattle Mariners starting tomorrow night for three games.

Congratulations to all of Sunday's winners. Heads up- the 2015 regular season ends next Sunday.

I read that J. Papelbon got himself a four-game suspension for the fight in the dugout from yesterday. You kind of have to feel sorry for the Nationals- you get eliminated from the postseason, then you implode the way they did, and bad enough... you give up nine runs in the Top of the 9th to lose 12-5 to Philadelphia. This could be ANY team, but this is a mega implosion.

As for tonight's games and upcoming series, good luck to all of your teams. Keep playing hard if you still have something [besides pride] to play for.

Fun Fact: With a 5-1 loss to Washington today, the Reds have now had three 9 game losing streaks this season. Can we make it 10 straight tomorrow against the Cubs? :)

Fun Fact #2: The Reds accidentally won 1 too many games this season. We are currently 7 losses away from 100...with only 6 more games to play. :(

Fun Fact #3: Despite their losing ways, the Reds amazingly would still be beating two teams if they played in the NL East in Atlanta and Philadelphia. :lol: (Sorry if anyone is a fan of either of those two teams)

The Nationals got the death blow on their season when they were up 7-1 over the Mets in the 7th inning a few weeks ago and blew that game completely. They haven't been the same since. They had been imploding all season though.

Mets are playing for NLDS home field advantage at this point. They're up on the Dodgers for that.

How about late games? Yeah! The Astros played their final Home series of the regular season. Now, we're taking our rock tour out on the road. So the Astros are in Seattle trying to entertain the Seattle Mariners. The game on Monday night ended in a 3-2 victory for the Astros. Winning by a single run on the road isn't easy. Win #83 for the Astros couldn't have been possible without a win by Lance McCullers and a Luke Gregerson picking up his 30th Save of the season. SEA's losing pitcher was Danny Farquhar.

Congratulations to Monday's other winners.

Double whammy for the Astros on Tuesday night. First off, we lost 6-4 at the Seattle Mariners. The loss also currently knocked us out of the 2nd AL Wild Card spot with the Angels taking over, after the Angels dominated the Oakland Athletics 8-1 in their game in Anaheim. This series heads to a Rubber Game for Wednesday. Tom Wilhelmsen was the SEA winning pitcher, and taking the loss for HOU was Oliver Perez. I hope my Astros can pull through, but I'm such a pessimist and a "Debbie Downer" on my beloved team.

Oh, well. Congratulations to Tuesday's other winners.

We won! 7-6 was the score in Seattle as the Astros won this HOU at SEA series. Despite the Mariners hanging a 4-spot on us in the Bottom of the 5th, we managed to tie with a three-run jack by Chris Carter in the Top of the 6th to make it 6-6. One more run was tacked on in the Top of the 7th for the Astros. So we can head into our day off before our final series of the regular season is played. We can head into that final series thanks to a win by Tony Sipp and another Save from Luke Gregerson. Danny Farquhar fell to 1-7 as the SEA loser.

Final series for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... it's Interleague action as my Astros will head into the desert and take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at lovely Chase Field. 'Stros and snakes. Phoenix, Arizona, USA.

Elsewhere...

* Toronto is your AL East champions for the 2015 season. It is their first division title since 1993, and we all know who won it all in 1993. They won the AL East thanks to wrecking the Baltimore Orioles 15-2.

* Oakland managed to take down the hot Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim with an 8-7 victory in Anaheim. Ryan Dull's win and Sean Doolittle's Save combined for the OAK win. Losing for LAA was Mike Morin. The Angels will have to head to the Texas Rangers for what should be an epic four-game series starting tomorrow.

* St. Louis won the NL Central. They got dominated in Game 1 of a Doubleheader 8-2 at Pittsburgh, but they dominated right back with an 11-1 demolition in Game 2. St. Louis has won the NL Central for the third successive season.

Updated postseason picture (changes in italics):

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* Toronto (AL East champions)
* Kansas City (AL Central Champions)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* New York Mets (NL East champions)
* St. Louis (NL Central champions)

* Pittsburgh (NL Wild Card)
* Chicago Cubs (NL Wild Card)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West Champions)

So the only races remaining are for the AL West and the two AL Wild Card slots.

Congratulations to all of Wednesday's other winners.

Texas can win the division with 2 wins or be eliminated from the playoffs entirely if they are swept.The best the Astros can get is a 1-game playoff for the division on Monday. LAA is 10-5 vs Texas so they are not out if either.

A note about my Pirates. The choke job on Monday night that ended any realistic chance at winning the division I think will sink the Pirate's ship. 96 wins with 3 left and Jake Arrieta waiting for us on Wednesday is a flashback of running into Bumgarner in the WC game last year. IF we can survive that and another NLDS with STL then I am not worried about either the Dodgers or the Mets. 11-1 combined record and +34 runs and the only loss was to Greinke. Too many if's for me.:nervous:

The New York Yankees are IN! So one AL Wild Card slot is locked up. More importantly for the Yankees- they are the sixth ever MLB team to reach 10K wins in franchise history. On top of that, they are the quickest to 10,000 wins for a franchise. They are also the first American League team to reach 10K wins. So congratulations to the Yanks on this historic win. Even more so when you beat your rival Red Sox to get to 10K. It is their first postseason berth since 2012. I felt they'd be in regardless, but they would have made a postseason berth either by beating Boston or by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim losing.

So all that remains is the AL West and the 2nd AL Wild Card. Updated Postseason list:

--- AMERICAN LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* Toronto (AL East champions)
* New York Yankees (AL Wild Card)
* Kansas City (AL Central Champions)

--- NATIONAL LEAGUE: POSTSEASON ---
* New York Mets (NL East Champions)
* St. Louis (NL West Champions)
* Pittsburgh (NL Wild Card)
* Chicago Cubs (NL Wild Card)
* Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West champions)

Final series of the regular season are either underway or will get underway. Congratulations to Thursday's winners.

Look who's back! Missed you, Villain!

The Houston Astros Baseball Club went into Interleague play as their final series of the season was against one of their former NL foes- the Arizona Diamondbacks. So how did the Astros do on Friday? Let's just say... you hang 'em, we bang 'em. Carlos Correa hit his 22nd jack of the season, setting a rookie record in Astros history for most home runs in a season by a rookie. The old record was by Lance Berkamn's 21 homers in 2000. Three other Astros went yard in Phoenix including George Springer, Colby Rasmus, and Luis Valbuena. Astros scored in every inning except the 5th and 9th. Still, all of this lead to the Astros smashing the D-Backs 21-5. Dallas Keuchel picked up the win for HOU. Rubby de la Rosa was ARI's losing pitcher.

* Texas will have to wait in clinching the AL West because the Angels won 2-1 at Texas. Texas either had to win this game or have Houston lose to clinch the AL West. It was a win for Mike Morin of LAA along with a Save from Joe Smith. For TEX, Shawn Tolleson was the loser.

* In Pittsburgh, the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates couldn't settle their differences in nine innings. So these two NL Central teams handled theirs in 12 innings with Pittsburgh winning 6-4 on a walk-off dinger from Starling Marte. The Reds led 4-0 early until the Pirates tied things up with several unanswered runs. The win for Pittsburgh helps put the Pirates a bit closer to hosting the NL Wild Card game. One more win or a Chicago Cubs loss will ensure the 3rd successive season the NL Wild Card game will be at beautiful PNC Park. The PIT winner was Arquimedes Caminero, and CIN's loser was Colin Balester. Pittsburgh improves to 97-63 while Cincinnati falls to 63-97.

Congratulations to Friday's other winners.

Yup. The ol' Redlegs coughed up a 4 run lead. This team simply can't hold a lead. So, so often we put up a 3 or 4 spot in the first 2 or 3 innings, then never score again. And every time, without fail, the other team comes back and puts up 1 or 2 more runs than us.

But hey, at least we extended our losing streak to 13 games...and ever so closer to that coveted 1st pick in the draft. Lol.

In case you (or anyone else) are wondering, the longest-ever losing streak in MLB history is 23 by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies. The 1961 Phillies ended up with a 47-107 record that season. The American League longest losing streak was set by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles, losers of 21 straight then.

Tigers lost to the White Sox 2-1, but White Sox ace Chris Sale set the franchise record for strikeouts last night. Congrats to him for doing so. Sale has had 274 strikeouts this season.

The Astros and Diamondbacks went at it again Saturday night. This time, it was a 6-2 victory for... the Houston Astros! HOU's winner was Collin McHugh, and ARI's loser was Jeremy Hellickson.

Elsewhere...

* NO HITTA! Sadly, our Blitz24's Mets were the victim of the no-hitter. Max Scherzer throws a no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over the Mets. Some may say it's inconsequential since the Mets are in the postseason while the Nationals have long been eliminated. However, a no-hitter is a no-hitter. The 2015 New York Mets are the fourth team in MLB History to be no-hit at home twice in the same season. Getting the win for the no-no was Max Scherzer for WSH, and the loser for NYM was Matt Harvey.

* Minnesota was eliminated from postseason contention by losing 5-1 hosting the Kansas City Royals. KC won with Yordano Ventura along with a Save from Wade Davis. Losing for MIN was Blaine Boyer.

Congratulations to the other winners from Saturday. Regular season ends Sunday.

We failed in our last game of the regular season. It was a 5-3 loss at the Arizona Diamondbacks for my Houston Astros. On the bright side, the Astros secured a Wild Card berth. The AL West ship has sailed for the Astros, so it was Texas who became AL West champs as the Astros faded down the stretch late. Details of this HOU at ARI game: ARI's winner was Daniel Hudson along with a Brad Ziegler Save. HOU's losing pitcher was Chad Qualls. We finished our 162-game Odyssey with an 86-76 record.

Up next for the Houston Astros Baseball Club... playoffs! ...but it could be just one day, especially if the Astros lose at the New York Yankees on Tuesday. These single Wild Card games are "win or go home." I'm hoping my Astros can continue their season, but it can all come to an end if HOU loses to the Yanks. And I'll just go back hoping my Texans can finish with a winning record.

So the postseason is set. Congratulations to all winners from Sunday on this final day of the regular season, and extra congratulations to all playoff participants.

Tigers concluded the season with a 6-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Norris pitched well which is good since we need him to be healthy next year.

The Reds dun goofed last night with their win. Instead of finishing the season on a 15 game losing streak, they instead went 1-14 after today's finale loss. Good job, team!
