As a few of you know I'm currently visiting Florida on vacation and after a few posts in other threads I've been asked to start a thread about it so here it is.

We arrived Friday afternoon after a 9 1/2 hour flight including some awesome views over Canada and a LOT of turbulence over Greenland.

We picked up our car, a Nissan Versa, and set off to the hotel on International Drive. I've been pleasantly surprised by the style of driving over here and I picked it all up in no time. The Versa drives pretty well for a compact and is much bigger than a compact back home, the trunk space has come in very useful.

The rest of day 1 was spent unpacking and getting used to the hotel. We are located right at the heart of International Drive which is really good and although our room is right next to the highway you don't really notice it too much. The hotel has 3 pools, plenty of shops and a little arcade with Guitar Hero in. We've already played a few games. :D Day 2 is next up

Since I asked demanded (:D) you to start this thread, it's only fair that I take a look at it.

Question:

* Did you get fingerprinted when you arrived in the US?

He also said highway instead of motorway. :P

Have a great rest of your trip, Mog!

I've always wanted to go to Florida. In fact, America in general. But the 9 hour flight would be hell with my dad. He can barely cope with a 2 hour flight to Spain without a smoke, nevermind a 9 hour one across the pond! :scared:

Hope you have an awesome time! :D

Pff.
I have a 16 hour coach trip to berlin in a month. I know there will be stops on the way but 16 hours.
Anyway enjoy Florida. I wish I was somewhere with good weather as well. *Moans about the British weather.*

Florida weather would be perfect for you this time of year; it's humid & rains nearly every day. :P

I did, yes. They took my fingerprints and my photo.

Roo
You've been there 24 hours and you're already talking like a native :P

I prefer using the correct words for my location! :P
Anyways day 2 was mainly spent doing shopping, we needed to get some snacks and bits and pieces so we headed off to Walmart and The Florida Mall. I also fuelled up the car which was a pleasant experience given the prices over here!

The mall was a nice place to be, the M&Ms store being a highlight as we came across a NASCAR car at the back of the store!

After more shopping we drove back to the hotel and had a walk around Pointe Orlando before grabbing something to eat at Johnny Rockets. I went for a steak and cheese sandwich washed down with a Mr Pibb which is my new favourite soft drink. :)

EDIT: I can't edit my post properly from my phone, is there any chance a mod could fix the link for me please?

I remember when I went to Florida... big folks, aligators, shotguns and aftermarket rims on almost every car there...

Walmart, eh? I live here and hate going there unless it's the middle of the night. :P

It seemed fairly quiet on Saturday morning, certainly not as busy as a UK megastore would be.

Sounds about right! We saw a nicely slammed Civic earlier though, the rear camber was absolutely insane

Fewer people, maybe, and yet still more mass...

The typical Wal-Mart shopper does not crawl out of bed until noon. And, when they do crawl out of bed, it almost tips the trailer over.

So you're staying on I-Drive, where they serve food in buckets! Go to the Boston Lobster Feast for a real 'treat'. :dopey:

What's the weather doing? Last time I was in Florida it was the end of August and almost 100° during the day and 90% humidity. I think the coolest night temp was 83°. I got used to it quicker than I thought I would.

I find driving in the States really easy and enjoyable - it's a bit like driving in France and Spain with plenty of space to just kick back and cruise about in (compared to the UK).

Florida in early November was ideal for us, as Brits used to being cold and wet all the time :D

Hey Moglet,

Have an amazing time mate! What are you planning to do when you are out there? Go to the parks?

You have to go to Charleys Steak House on International Drive. They do the best steak I have ever had! Just get a cab and tell them to go to Charleys and they'll know straigh away!

You have to go there Moglet, I recommend it!

Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone, we are mainly here to visit the parks so we have plenty to be doing. We've also booked our Halloween evening at Universal which should be fun in a scary sorta way.

Weather wise it's been very good so far; no rain and plenty of sunshine. It's hitting 30 degrees at midday or so and the humidity is around 60%, which is fine by me. It's still less than Jamaica last year when the humidity was uncomfortable.

That definitely compares to 40 degrees midday and 100% humidity when I went out there. Must be a lot cooler, enjoy!

Do you have plans meeting GTP members?

Not currently, no. We've got things planned for most days anyway so won't have much time for anything else! We went to Kennedy Space Center on Sunday, will post photos when I get home because it's a nightmare on my phone. The Astronaut Memorial was very moving, as was seeing the last pictures of various crews who gave their lives while reaching for the stars.
