Really looking forward to tonight's race. For the first time in a long time (probably Laguna Seca 4 weeks ago) we'll have a nice wide racing course without many problem areas, meaning we'll hopefully have some good clean racing with plenty of opportunities for passing.

Don't forget to invite a friend or 2 tonight. As I posted earlier I'll be donating $10 per race finisher to the American Red Cross to support the Japanese earthquake/tsunami relief.

/MondayBump

Invited two that I race with often. Not sure if either are able to show up, but they said they would if they could.

looking forward to tonights race! hopefully i dont have trouble getting into the lobby, sometimes i have nat type errors come up, says our networks are compatible with certain races online, hopefully that doesnt happen tonight (fingers crossed)

Check your PS3 internet connection status from the settings menu on the PS3 main screen. If your NAT is Type 1 or 2, you have a good enough connection. If it says Type 3, it means you router is being a serious PITA and preventing your PS3 from getting a good solid internet connection.

Here's a decent home networking guide to help you out, and the best case scenario is always a direct LAN cable from your PS3 to router/modem.

I know it's early but from this point on I probably won't be checking back here on GTPlanet until after the race. if you have questions PSN me.

OK, so I have few last minute tweaks I want to try, so I'll be in my lounge no later than 7:30EDT (maybe even earlier). If anyone wants to do the same, just send PSN friend request and stop in.

Somewhat disappointing race this evening folks. I'm really happy about the turnout but it seems that the extra racer load caused problems related to lap times.

if anyone had any issues with bad moves, jagoffs, etc. please PM me and we can discuss. I'd rather not discuss that kind of stuff in public.

That was some good racing.

I wasn't surprised by WiiFreak winning by that much.

After 20 laps of battling with someone for position, I was doomed to lap the rest of the time exactly on the opposite side of the track from the action. Ah well, good to see a full field and close racing. See you guys next week!

Good racing, i just think the cars were a bit uneven. Were we allowed to do the turbo mods to our cars? I had the subaru so the only thing i did was the chassis stiffening. I think i prefer the format we did last week with a couple short races and then some longer ones. Gives us time to dial our cars in since they don't seem to handle the same during a race and during practice.

These events are always fun. I did not have issues with anybody, and tried to stay out of the way although sometimes I was confused if the person is way ahead or behind me.

I bumped Booch16 at the last corner on the first lap. Sorry about that. Understeered into you. My bad.

I had the weird issue where I qualified in 1:47.1 but my best race lap was 1:52. I wonder if our connection is only as good as the slowest connection. My download speed is approx. 25 mbps and upload is approx. 6 mbps.

I was looking at the replay to see where I went wrong and to see what the differences were in the cars. It really looked like the major difference was how people had their transmissions set. I realized several laps in that mine was just set way too short, but looking at various people through the replay, it was clear that people had different transmission settings, and some worked quite well while others didn't. That, plus braking for cornering really set the tone of who was up front. Definitely taught me a lot tonight - that's for sure!

I'll have some photos up tomorrow. By the way, B-McG's car looked like it got glitched up to me in the replay. The rear bumper was dragging all over the place from the start, but the car didn't have damage.

MAR 21 Race: Fuji Speedway F 200KM - GT300
Monday March 21 - Lobby Open @ 8:00pm, Race @ 8:30pm Eastern (GMT-4)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
When I first came up with the idea for this race a few weeks ago it was to run the 2010 Round 7 Super GT race in Fuji that was cancelled due to Typhoon No. 9. The Typhoon struck near Fuji in September causing significant damage, but luckily caused no fatalities or major injuries. By now I'm sure everyone has heard about the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that occurred in Japan this past Friday. Given how this event was created because of a 2010 natural disaster in Japan it seems only right to do something special for this event to help support the country in 2011.

So in order to support the disaster relief efforts in Japan I will donate $10 for each person who finishes this 44 lap race to the American Red Cross. If we finish a full grid I'll increase my contribution to an even $200. So tell your friends about the race and encourage them to participate, if for no other reason than to help the cause.

No, I tried to make it as clear as possible that the only bold-on mods permitted were chassis stiffening for 2 of the cars. I really apologize to everyone for how this race went down. I think it was fun but there were so many technical glitches that it kinda ruined the fun at times.

At one point i was following right behind booch16 and he flippin disappeared into thin air. Didn't see him the rest of the race, but he didn't quit. WTF?

I think i prefer the format we did last week with a couple short races and then some longer ones. Gives us time to dial our cars in since they don't seem to handle the same during a race and during practice.
We've done the sprint-style races a couple of times now and it's a nice change from the traditional endurance race format. It's good because people can have the chance to change tune setups. It's also good if someone gets e-booted they can join in the next race. However, you lose the endurance racing / pit strategy side of things which can make the races fun.

...since they don't seem to handle the same during a race and during practice.
how many people had this problem? I was doing 1:48.xxx in practice. In-race my best lap was 1:48.xxx and I was generally running 1:50 - 1:51. This is pretty consistent with my racing style.

I heard a lot of people say they were way down on lap times from practice (not counting B-McG who looked like he was racing a Kia ;)). Maybe mine was consistent because it was my lounge??? Anybody ever had this problem in other racing series? Insight?

Thanks again to all. I'll have pics up later this week and will be posting a screen shot of my Red Cross donation as well. At least 1 good thing came of this race.

My lap time in the qualify was almost the same in my private practice [online in my lounge]
In race too, of course not when my tyres was dead LOL
No problem for me but i've noticed, expecially on the straight, that other people had problem. Not the classic superfast-crazy-flying-cars, more like.. trembling? Something like that, from my p.o.v.

My race laps were easily 5-10 seconds slower than my practice laps, even after i pit and had fresh tires. I think there is something funky with the physics in this game. It seems inconsistent at times and i believe Ningdynasty pit twice in a row because he said his tires were not right after the first pit stop. I guess this is what we get for playing a game that couldn't be finished in 6 years

It seems like the game is great for some fun-runs but falls flat whenever we try and make a serious race event/series. Not a criticism of Benda or anyone organizing races, i think the game is failing while the gamers are trying to do their best with a game full of flaws.

I had this problem. Was doing 1:52-1:53 in practice saving tires, about 1:50 pushing the tires. In the actual race, running the same lines as 1:52-1:53, I did 1:58-1:59.

I've had this problem in other racing series done with friends, where when the race starts it feels like you're driving a completely different car. I've seen cases where people are on Daytona Road Course on the ring part, and they randomly spin out and say it felt like they hit grass when they were in the middle of the track. It's happened to me as well in other races.

Here's the weird thing, though - this kind of thing has only ever happened to me when using the Driving Force GT wheel, and when I'd switched over to pad in other races, the problem has gone away. While I'm fully aware that the pad has a driving aide built in even with all aides off, it's not like I'm turning the wheel wildly or am even having to fight the wheel when I drive (Simulation mode, FFB=6).

I'm also wondering if it's an issue of the game recognizing the wheel as the primary controller in-race, because last night I noticed I had to turn the wheel significantly more when my DS3, which was designated as controller 1, went to sleep during the race. Who knows? Maybe I'm setting it up wrong?

I agree. In practice, I was easily hitting 1:52-1:53, and those were laps practiced to save the tires from being burned off. In race, I was consistently doing 1:58-1:59 even with fresh tires.

That happened with me. I had to pit twice in a row because after my first pit it felt like I was on Sport Hards instead of Racing Hards, even though the pit said it put Racing Hards on.

I didn't really experience any connection issues as others seem to have had.

I always make sure to practice Online, not using the Practice section of GT Life, which is offline. There is a marked difference in the simulation between racing online and practicing offline, so maybe that accounts for some of the differences in peoples' times?

I was running 1:47s and 1:48s as good laps in practice, with 1:50s being more my average laptime.
In the race there was no change in my pace at all.

I'm just curious to know exactly how connection issues in an online lobby would affect lap times at all, let alone making them 5 to 10 seconds slower? Sure, if you have a wonky connection, your car may appear to warp or jump around a bit compared to others, but your laptimes wouldn't be affected....

I was running 1:48's consistently in the practice laps, minutes before race start. The race started, my car felt completely different and i think my BEST lap during the race was a 1:53.xxx under the best conditions with fresh tires and no traffic. I have no idea how or why a connection issue would affect my lap times, but something doesn't feel right. It feels like i have TCS at 1 in practice and 0 during the race, when the setting is 0 all the time.
