I may end up missing tomorrow evening. I've been helping my girlfriend and her family move to their new home, and I grossly underestimated the amount of work that needs to be done. I'm swinging by her place tomorrow evening to help out some more, and i have no clue when I'll be done. So, if I miss you all this week, see you the following week for the Tesla Roadster race!
 
Cant wait for tonights race. I missed GT5 for 9 days while away and when I came home...well, my U-Verse had been disconnected. Not only missed my Sunday series events, but the Kansas-VCU game since my DVR wasnt recording! Needless to say, I'm looking forward to tonight, however rusting I may be.
 
FYI to everyone. My mic has been on the fritz since last week. I may not be able to chat during tonight's race but I'll have a keyboard hooked up to type.
 
I know the series is going to end in May, but I thought it should continue on in some form or other. :) My proposed event idea was inspired earlier tonight by this video...

Maybe we can have a few races on Tsukuba Circuit with the Daihatsu Midget on May 9th?:D

Also, good race tonight. There was an intense 6-way battle going on for first-6th or so during the first few laps. Not a lot of spins, so well done everyone.
 
Maybe with a little moer free time, I could have a more competitive car in my hands for tonight's race. Also, apologies if I was in anyone's way during the race.

My battle with mikethehokeyfan was long, it was difficult to find a moment to pass him, good race Mike. 👍
After that, has been difficult for me to finish the last 5-6 laps, i had to find a better setup to save my tyres a little more :indiff:
Anyway, the pink db9 was amazing.

This was by far my favorite race so far. Way to go and make me have fun and all :)

As others stated post-race, the cars appeared to be well matched, and evenly distributed. Pit strategies were interesting but it appeared that in the end 1- or 2-pit both finished close to each other.

I got into an awesome race for 4th with mikethehockeyfan on lap 27 but made 2 bad mistakes and played in the sand for a bit :dunce:. Hustled back and passed mikethe on lap 29 after making up about 15 seconds. methinks that mikethe had a 1-pit strategy and his tires just faded too much on the last laps. either that or he had a 2-pit strategy and his tires just faded too much on the last laps.

GP/F wasn't much fun to me before tonight, but I think I finally have a good feel for the course.

I got it and will host it later this week... once i stop being a lazy sumbitch :crazy:
 
Yea it was a good race, if I made 1 less mistake during that race I wouldnt have finished first instead of second. But that is the name of the game so next time I wont have that problem =).

That was a fun race. I tried the Jag earlier and did not like it too much. for a track that I don't enjoy, this race surprised me. Never gave the Aston much thought either. Great choices.

CIA and Brandofo were too fast. I think my matte pink Aston got 2:14 as fastest lap after my second stop and those two guys were at least 2 seconds faster.

I had a fun strategic race with Mike and KW. They were on 1 stop and I was on 2 stop. First few laps were crazy. On lap 2 I got hit by supershouden 3 times in one corner as I was fishtailing out of control. The hits actually straightened me. Haha.

We had pretty even tire wear for everyone. Usually my fronts do worse than ores because I go in too fast and understeer to scrub off speed. When I was on fresher rubber I could see KW and Mike sliding everywhere on old tires.

A few things about the Monday Tsukuba race:

1) I will be hosting Monday's sprints races (as usual) but I won't actually be racing or even spectating. Monday night is the NCAAM basketball championship game, so my TV will be tuned into that. I suspect I won't be the only one, but for those of you whose teams were kicked early in the tourney or who just aren't basketball fans, you can still race in my lounge.

The race will be 100% automated so that everyone can still stop in and race as they please. There just won't be a race steward, so to speak (no, I won't be listening in on the mic either).

2) final specs will be up Wednesday evening. I won't be around the PS3 until then.

3) OLD BUSINESS: I still need to do pictures from the Fuji race and the Nurburgring race. I'll get to it this week, promise.

My Race Summary
My fastest lap was 2:13.xxx and I was consistently running 2:15.xxx-2:17.xxx later in the race HOWEVER, my first pit was too late and therefore my laps 9,10 and 11 were 2:29, 2:55 and 2:44 respectively. Can't come back from that. In my practice lounge, I could not better 2:15.3xx yet in race (and I raced alone for 20 laps of it) I bested that numerous times.

I prepped a supercharged XKR R Performance with all three weight reductions, but it only had 421 HP. 30 minutes before the race, I impulse bought a DB9 and upon seeing the race countdown I left the track and grabbed the Aston.(I got back into the race with 11 seconds left before start!) It was obviously the quicker car (-2 seconds over practice trials with XKR) but I didnt get the handling till after the first pit. It was 200KG heavier yet I drove the lines I had with the Jaguar with bad consequences. I bled the tires completley empty in 9+ laps and then understanding the handling, ran faster and didnt need a pit for 15 laps and I could have made it two more if need be.

Personally, I'm hoping for a rematch. Now that I know the car, I was able to take another second off and get it in the 1:12.xxx with weight reduction and power limiting.:sly:
 
Pit strategies are making these events fun. Last night you basically had 2 options: 1-pit (15x15) or 2-pit (10x10x10). The out-lap from the pit added 30 seconds to your lap time (roughly). In my experience, debilitating tire wear can occur in less than 2 laps, causing my lap times to go up by about 5 seconds per. My tires were at that point by lap 10.

With that math the added pit/tire wear time would be as follows (for me, YMMV):
* 1-pit strategy: (5 laps on crap tires * 5 seconds per lap) + (30 second out-lap) + (5 laps on crap tires * 5 seconds per lap) = +80 seconds
* 2-pit strategy: (0 laps on crap tires * 5 seconds per lap) + 30 second out-lap + (0 laps on crap tires * 5 seconds per lap) + 30 second out-lap + (0 laps on crap tires * 5 seconds per lap) = +60 seconds.

At least that's the maths I was doing in my head around lap 9 last night.
 
I agree, somewhat. I think 1 pit strategy would have worked out if we raced these cars again and I had done all weight reductions (Or any for that matter)...my mistake was making so many errors (mostly in judgement) in the first 9 laps that by the time I figured the car out I was 90 seconds down. I'm a bit sour about getting lapped :crazy: No question I was a couple seconds slower a lap, but I let the car down greatly starting off like a maniac attempting to keep a line I had set in a different car.

I had all the weight reductions on my car and I would still pick a 2 stop strategy. Once you get over 10 laps the tires are finished and you'll lose too much time.
 
excellent race last night. first and second place came down to the wire. one more lap and i would have certainly lost the lead.

after the first lap or two, i was trailing CIA by about 6 seconds. he made one mistake around lap 8 that allowed me to catch up.

i eventually took first position and saw CIA hit the pits in my rearview mirror around lap 10.

i almost pitted the next lap, but decided against it and tried to extract 5 more laps out of my tires and avoid traffic for the first half of the race. a spinout forced CIA to take evasive maneuvers and added some much-needed seconds to my lead.

amazing how we can use different cars, weight, hp, and pit strategies and still end the race that closely. this race reminded me a lot of the rome endurance, which was probably my favorite race besides this one. lots of strategy and it all comes together on the final laps and you realize it's neck and neck.

NIce pictures, Brandofo. You lost some time at the beginning fighting with us on teh first lap while CIA took off. I remember I was right behind you at the Schumacher S until I ran wide into the sand somewhere. Then you and CIA just disappeared.

I think for this race, 2-stop is the way to go as Mike and KW had similar pace as me, but I went ahead of them on fresher rubber.

Very fun indeed and great choice. I will not be able to make it next Monday.

Also wanted to add that the sight lines on Nurburgring GP/F are fantastic. Coming down the hill from Ford to Dunlop, about 7-10 seconds behind I could see the traffic passing quickly across my screen in the distance headed towards the Schumacher S. It was just another awesome detail that made me smile last night.
