That's the great thing about MotoGP or even bike racing in general. The grids are physically so tightly spaced and the racing so close that the qualifying times are largely irrelevant. They might as well just have extra practice on a Saturday and reverse championship position grid on a Sunday. Race result would probably still be the same.

You're not wrong, Rossi quite often qualifies lower down the grid but quickly works through the pack if he's on the pace. Pedrosa would probably still get the hole shot even if he started dead last every single race!

The home advantage for the Spanish guys has certainly done the trick in qualifying! I really didn't think Pedrosa was going to have a good weekend but it's looking promising so far. Obviously Honda have pulled their finger out although Dovizioso is in the middle of the pack so hopefully their new engine they're testing on Monday will be an improvement.

I think Rossi has got off lightly getting fourth on the grid, seems like his shoulder injury is causing him grief so he may struggle in the race tomorrow.

Spies and Edwards have both done well today so they're in a good position for tomorrow, if Spies does get his first podium that will over shadow anything else that happens in the race!

This feels like the start of the season proper, I can't wait for the lights to go out tomorrow :gtpflag: :D

Full qualifying stats below

I've got to pick up parts for the Porsche tomorrow so I hope I get home early enough to be able to see the races.
*fingers crossed*

Another great race at Jerez, I've updated the first post and the full MotoGP time sheet is below.

Pedrosa had a great race and it looks like Honda are moving in the right direction sorting out their chassis problems but nothing on earth was going to stop Lorenzo getting passed him. The last 3 laps were awesome and really got my heart rate up, I don't think I've ever seen Pedrosa fight for his position like that before, in the end Lorenzo got through but it was all very clean and fair racing.

Rossi did well to get a podium finish and stay in touch with the Pedrosa and Lorenzo, obviously his shoulder did hold him back but he's got 3 weeks until Le Mans so I'm sure he'll be fine by then.

The big shock for me is Hayden beating Stoner, fantastic to see him back on form and having a bike he can ride. Shame about Spies though, not sure what happened to his bike yet.

Biggest surprise of the race:

I was quite impressed by how smooth Lorenzo rode all race. His late charge paid off again this race. I'm sure it will be a Rossi vs. Lorenzo fight for the championship. Just depends if Lorenzo can ensure this year he doesn't fall off so much. With the composure he had this race I'd say he has a good chance to win it.

Great controlled ride from Jorge, he really looked after his tyres well. Dani was doing the same right up until the Yamaha rider was upon him, then he seemed to loose his composure and his rear tyre. Valentino did as much as he could, seems the front tyre for him went off well before the finish. Nicky rode his usual way, all out..the Ducati had very little front grip after 10 laps..leading me to think that Casey just wanted to bag some points. He finished right on his team mates rear tyre, after looking well beaten all race. Ducati had a similar attitude in the bike a couple of years ago and fixed it with an engine management configuration for the deceleration.

All three classes had home town riders win their divisions...Spain will party for a week ...won't they? :D

I missed every bit of it because Speed Channel thought that the Nascar trucks event was more important to televise than the MotoGP race. I so hate Speed Channels programming with their stupid Nascar bull****.
Yeah I'm pissed.

I did get a chance to see the MotoII race though and it was a good one but the main race I missed. :(

I didn't see the race, but what happened to Kallio in the race? I heard Pramac was totally lost with the setups through all weekend and then from last place to 7th. Not bad I guess.

Because NASCAR Trucks in Kansas after a rain delay is somehow more important than MotoGP at Jerez, I was absolutely unable to see the MotoGP race at Jerez on Speed Channel (maybe I should move to Europe to see Sky Sports or Motors TV). When the highlights of the NASCAR deal were complete, all I was able to see was the Moto2 race at Jerez. That was the first-ever Moto2 race I've seen.

A friend of mine loves Daniel Pedrosa, but another Spaniard- Jorge Lorenzo, took the win. Great Spanish 1-2.

Yeah a great race so I've heard and I didn't get a chance to watch it.
I even broke early from a local Porsche club so that I could get home in time to watch the races.
Maybe next time.

Speed showed it live at 5am PST. Saw the whole thing. They aired it again later.
Strange though, the truck race ran into the moto2 race for me and I missed the crash at the start.

The moto 2 race was Amazing! The battle for first was a pack of 8 riders, and Tomizawa san was riding great. Everyone was on the limit the whole time pushing so hard. My heart rate was even up, so when i watched the motogp race afterwards it was actually a little boring at the start, however that was a great ride by lorenzo and he deserved the win. His celebrations after were great aswell.

It was a bit of a dull race until the last 3 laps, but those few laps almost made up for it. A great race by Lorenzo but a bit of a shame for Pedrosa. Looks like Honda are getting their act together again which is good news for the sport.

After waiting what seems like an eternity we finally have a race on this weekend!!

history shows the ducati has never gone well here while yamaha has been very strong!!

Predictions??

1)Rossi
2)Lorenzo
3)Pedrossa
4)Stoner
5)Spies
6)Hayden

Rossi on pole....Rossi for the win!!!!....

Its one of the factory Yamaha's who's going to win this weekend...For sure it will be Rossi, cause he is ....Rossi.....👍:)👍:)👍

I tend to agree with you Spy about Rossi winning for the same reasons but Stoner's just gone quickest in warm up with Lorenzo close behind, Rossi is about 0.4 behind them!

No doubt Rossi will get mugged at the start then claw his way back through the pack as per usual and Pedrosa will get the hole shot...even my wife predicted this and said where's the point in him getting pole

Just over 3 hours until the race starts so not too long to wait now, it's been ages since the last race :grumpy:

................................................

EDIT:

So it turns out Lorenzo was the fastest guy today or maybe Rossi wasn't spinning a yarn about his shoulder being weak. A pretty good result for Dovizioso, not sure when he last got on the podium so he'll be happy with that. God knows what's going on with Pedrosa, Lorenzo pipped him last time but something mustn't be right when you let 2 through in the last lap and miss so many apexes.

Bad day for Stoner, Spies and Edwards but at least 2 of them had the excuse of crashing out!

Timing sheet below and I'll update the first post with standings and the next race details soon.

Was Qatar this year mate :)

  My memory must be going in my old age ;)

Did anyone else find that race a tad boring??

It wasn't very exciting but I didn't nod off on the sofa. Once Lorenzo got past Rossi it was over though and the only interest left was the battle for 3rd

Yeah great pace by Lorenzo,it whas his day and nobody got close to even be a threat to him...shame,cause i whas hoping for the return of Rossi, but you can still see ,by the way he is moving around with his weight on the bike,he is not 100% fit yet...

Great run from Dovi...he is getting better every race...

Big fail again for Stoner...did you guys see the face expressions by his crew in the garage after he crashed out??....ouch!!!...

Yeah the races are a bit boring because the differences in performance in bikes is too big!!...and they need to change something, otherwise for next season more teams will quit and go to Moto2 or WSB...i mean who wants to finish 30 seconds behind the leader every race?....

If you read several forums on the net, lots of fans are edging towards the Superbikes now,and i don't blame them...the Superbike races are very, very exiting and full of drama and allways close...

Something needs to happen in Motogp,or it will die out slowly and painfully....I say they should ban the traction controll again and raise the engines to at least 1000cc again...we all want see the bikes slide and burn rubber again, like several years ago!!!!!

Rossi and a few other drivers have been saying this for several years now,but for some reason nobody seems to be listening...

Once again, Speed Channel or let's say Nascar Channel had the last week full of Nascar bull****.
No races, nothing.
Something needs to be done about this because I'm missing all the races and that's two in a row now. :(

Yeah. My Dish Network info thing usually says "MotoGP Racing" when MotoGP is on, but the only motorcycle racing shown was AMA Motocross. It's like last weekend was a not a great weekend if you love any motorsport other than NASCAR. Damned shame. If I can keep up with MotoGP on Twitter or something I may have to use just that and not have to rely on Speed prostituting NASCAR for all it's worth.

So while Speed Channel will probably show the NASCAR 2010 All-Star race in IMAX 3D and in the pointless 3D revival, many of us will be missing out on great MotoGP racing. May well move to Europe to see Motors TV or EuroSport...

Rant

It's ashamed that Nascar has such a strong hold on a channel, bringing in so much money from people that really don't understand that there's others in the world that love other things besides Nascar.

I wish there was some way to find another means to view the MotoGP races on the internet or something.

*sighs*

The MotoGP website (http://www.motogp.com/en/Subscribe) has a video pass on a monthly or season long basis but doesn't SpeedTV repeat the race again in full later? If not I would definitely contact the to complain, MotoGP.com states that they are the official broadcaster in the USA so the should be doing a better job.
