What track, set-up, place and/or configuration, is it real life, is it computer generated, does it have backup, is it feasible, how about who did the driving?

How the hell does the Fiesta ST get a similar time to the NSX; and the BMW Z4 almost the same time as the Porsche 911 GT3?

lol look at the lap times. You should be able to see that its a short tight track which favours lighter cars. The power monsters dont have time to stretch their legs over the lighter ones. Such cars like the GT3 and NSX excell in higher speed cornering, theres nothin in it when it comes to the slower ones.

What a load of crap. The TopGear track is much more balanced between straights and corners. Motorvision is just crap.

That list is really awful... There are so many that are wrong.

How can a Mondeo beat an NSX? In fact, many cars up there like that Saxo are faster than the NSX.

Oh no guys, that list is no crap.
It's kind of specific, but it really shows if the car can handle.

But yeah the track is really extreme. The main driver is Tim Schrick, a very talented driver who also participates on the 24h of Nürburgring and who did that Porsche on snow video on the Nürburgring ( there is a thread about it on gtp ).


Ok now let me describe you the track. It has extreme elevation changes and it is really short. You kind of drift the all the time, which is why the AMG sucks at this track. You can't compare it with the airfield track of Top Gear. It is like a go cart track with huge elevation changes, you'll never see the 3rd gear on that course.

it's pretty dumb to show car's performances on such a short track and with so very little information... it's like throwing the cars off a plane and measuring their freefall speed, and then documenting it.

Sorry that is BS... there is information, but you have to speak German to understand it ;). It's part of the weekly magazine Motorvision, but it's only a small part, just like the Stig-test on Top Gear.

Of course that is no allround test, they also have that on Motorvsion ( with laptimes of the Hockenheimring for example ), but it really shows what a specific car can do on a track like that. It's not about ultimate raw power, but about balance...

It's far too short a track to gauge anything from the results. It obviousely favours a certain type of car, because the supercars can't do anything on it. Kind of makes any comparisons between an Audi TT Quattro Sport an a 911 GT3 invalid if you ask me. Get a TT Quattro sport time at the ring and then see where it's at, because it will suck ball on that track. Even on TopGears track I can't see it getting under 1'30.

I don't see the point in even bothering to test the cars on such a small track, it's not providing any indication of which car is faster.

Well those cars are certainly fast on small winding roads, those exist in Europe and Japan... this track is imo to a certain degree even more relevant than a big race track. I mean you can't really drive corners with 200 km/h in daily situations, but you can bring a car to the limit below 70 km/h...

Who cares if a Ferrari can beat my STi in Silverstone when I can beat it on the small roads sourrounding my town ;)
 
Well said max_dc I totally agree. Motorvision gives a better scope for everyday driving situations, like for example on public roads, a evo or scooby will most likely smoke a ferrari or a SL55 for several reasons.

Define "faster" though.
A car that covers a set distance that features a wide variety and even balance of sections that can be taken at different speeds. Not, oh look a track that consists of two hairpins, who wins the Ferrari Enzo... No, the London Taxi Balck Cab.

Well I don't watch it every week, but I've seen it many times over the past 10 years whereas poverty probably just found some infos about Motorvision, most of that not even in english...

And I didn't say that that test track is the ultimate sheme to judge cars, it shows certain abilities of cars.

...it's not that they drive around it once you know, it's about agility... Look at certain race tracks, how many corners are in there ? 12 ? Just like on this course ;) You know what I mean. On the Nurburgring you also look at sector times, you compare how fast was car x or car y on a specific part. So I think this type of testtrack is quite unique, and it shows sides of cars who don't get revealed by a review on a standard race track.

All you need to do is to give more info in your first post and then there'd be no problems.
