Music you listen to while driving!

Just the engine noise for me while driving, even if they are a bit pants.
Have some of the rock and classical playing over replays, though I'm not really keen on how they've used synthesised instruments on the classical stuff.
Oh, and what have they done to the godfather of soul's classic "Super Bad"??

I hate to be blunt but this thread is kinda off-topic. Why are most of these "posts" talk more about the "music they listen to while driving" instead of "the music they listen to while driving in GT4?" This isn't the music forum, people. It's the GT4 forum you're in.

*sighs*

In driving school, I was told never to listen to music while in the driver's seat.

It's like, "when are you most focused? When sitting in a quiet environment, or when having someone yell suggestive crap at you for five non-stop minutes?"

I had to move soon after starting and I never went back, but I still remembered that point.

Also, being one who records (or will be recording) his replays, I was not impressed by how the song and band name are displayed in the bottom left of the screen despite BGM being turned off.

Another feature that was omitted from the game was a playlist editor (a la GT3).

I really appreciate music and was impressed to see that Van Halen played the intro song, but the rest of the music in the game is pretty poor.

The only music I listen to in GT4 is the menu music and the exhaust notes of the some 370 cars that are available to me now.

That is quite sufficient.

I'm a classic rock and hard rock fan. Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, etc.
I'm surprised that no one has brought up one of the songs on the GT4 soundtrack yet on this forum: Borealis - Don't Mean a Thing. This song ROCKS! I even went got the rest of the album after hearing this song - pretty good stuff. Don't Mean a Thing I think is the best song, but there's some other good stuff too.

No, I went straight with the topic. I was answering the question about "what music do you listen to while driving in GT4," not "is it okay to have music in GT4?" I can't name many of the songs I use in my Playlist, but it's pretty diverse. So I'll name in terms of artists I can recall. So here goes:

Borialis (sorry for the misspell), Papa Roach*, Apollo 440, A. Skills, Will.I.Am., Erik Satie, Pachbel, Daiki Kasho, The Commodores*, (Earth, Wind, and Fire)*, Mozart, Bach, and that's all I can remember.

* = relates to a remix

The last time I had a lot of music to enjoy was GT1. I knew that when (remember on the PS1, whatever song the race starts out with, it plays the SAME SONG all the way through. Thank goodness for GT3 and GT4.) GT1 had "Lose Control" by Ash, I was ready to rip some ass on the track. I know what I'm talking about, so Klonie_Gun, I tried to stay on topic. Nothing further, then I guess I'll enjoy me some trance.

im currently blaring out some classic Howlin' Wolf but i just cant resist the guitar solo on Free Bird by Lynrd Skynrd when im racing around the nurburgring! if you start it off a few minutes after the start it comes in just as you round that long corner over the hill onto the straight! it blows my mind :)

probably sound like a total hick now.

Free Bird!

Get the 14 minute live version man, it rocks.

I've noticed the small number of Feeder fans in this thread. Glad to see I'm not the only one. :) I don't really listen to music when driving but I have Feeder's B-side "Shatter" as one of the tracks in the replay BGM playlist. :D

I reckon you sound like my 'Pa.

i agree about free bird cos cant beat a long melodic guitar solo when you are going round the 'ring......

ahhh your 'Pa has good taste in music!

if anyone has any other suggesions for guitar-solo-ey (??) music to listen to i would much appreaciate it. it helps me concentrate and get really focused when im blazin' up and cant quite drive properly anymore

If you want some solo stuff, try Surfing With The Alien- Joe Satriani- whole album nearly all solos! In fact pretty much all of his stuff would do you proud! :sly:
Feeder Pushing The Senses and Comfort In Sound (although not really solo-ey music, jus' fit in with the speed of the races) are also good to race to 👍

Guess I'm a purist because I don't like listening to music when I'm 'driving'. But, come to think of it, I've never seen a race car with a sound system. :sly:

AWESOME GUITAR STUFF FOR DRIVING:

Crosstown Traffic by Hendrix is a good one to drive to, but is more of a cruising song. For awesome full on Hendrix see "Here He Comes (lover man)", "Ezy Rider", "Voodoo Child (slight return)" all great for driving. "Killing Floor" (BBC sessions) also rips it pretty awesomely. "All Along The Watchtower" is another fabulous Hendrix tune (Dylan cover though!) that has a wonderful rhythm for driving. There's loads more besides these!

Good driving ones by Joe Satriani: Anything that isn't a slow lovey-dovey ballad. Good examples: "Flying in a Blue Dream", "Summer Song", "Satch Boogie", "Mind Storm", "Crystal Planet" etc etc etc etc.

Steve Vai can also help with the guitar solo servings. See the baddass "Giant Balls Of Gold" & "Bad Horsie". All his more full-on stuff is good for driving fast. "Frank" is beautiful relaxed rocker by Vai. Also his earlier stuff with Whitesnake for instance is more ballsy and good solid rock!

If you're into just inspiring uplifting melodies see "Going Home" by Mark Knopfler (beautiful irish sounding tune), and "Whispering a Prayer" & "For the Love of God" by Steve Vai. Yes it can be cheesey, but oh the emotion in the playing and the sheer skill of it...

For balls to the wall hard rock you can't beat AC/DC classics like "Back in Black", "Thunderstruck", "Highway to Hell" etc etc etc kicks ten kinds of arse.

Perhaps the 2 most cathartic songs I've ever heard are Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name Of" and "Wake Up" - their 2 best songs by far, followed closely by "Bullet In The Head" and "Bombtrack". Awesome driving material again, but not if your in the Prius!

Another awesome Van Halen tune other than "Panama" (the best one) is "Hot For Teacher" another fun driving song, that has a good fast tempo.

Perhaps one of the most fitting songs that should've definately made the cut into GT4 is Jeff Beck's super cool hot-rod inspired song "Roy's Toy" from his album "You Had It Comin'". You'll KNOW why if get to hear the start of the song - a huge V8 hot rod revving up! That whole album has some of the coolest guitar ever (the guy is a genius), and is appropriately ballsy with awesome driving rhythms! Awesome guitar riffs, with cool Prodigy style drums underpinning... I urge people to check it out ASAP...

After all the full-on stuff, I usually like some nice rockin' but less aggressive stuff like cool blues like Albert King, Cream era Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan (hang on that can be pretty full on!), JJ Cale creates wonderful tunes for cruising to, see his original version of "cocaine"- totally creams the clapton cover version! For this more relaxed vibe, some Blues Brothers music always goes down well, like "She Caught the Katy", "Shake Your Tail-Feather", "Sweet Home Chicago", "Jailhouse Rock" etc.

"Layla (Derek & the Dominos era)" and "Crossroads (Cream era)" are Eric Clapton's 2 best electric guitar songs that are cool to drive to. When either of these tunes come on in PGR2 when a London track loads up it creates the London mood SOO well...

Now for something completely different!

Also all the old WipEout2097 (and some earlier) techno is pure gold for racing to. "Firestarter" by the Prodigy is so perfect its a crime. Also "Loops of Fury" by the Chemical Brothers and everything off WipEout games in general (except WipEout Fusion, that sucked hard). The key for techno to be good for racing is simple. There should be minimal vocals, and the sounds have to be gritty and ballsy, not all wishy-washy and nancy-boyish like the Chemical Brother's newer work...

Hope I gave some people some good ideas!

Yeah I used to be like that, just with the engine. Then I got bored. Sure I don't drive quite as well with music distracting from the concentration/engine and skidding sounds, but hey I've finished the game so I'm allowed to relax a bit more hey!

The soundtrack in Gt4 isn't that bad. I leave it on and just let it play. No it's not the music that you prefer, but it definetly driving music to get you in the spirit. 👍

I also play my PS2 trough my TV card, on LCD.. so winamp plays in background....

The best thing for "RING" is Deep Dish - Moskva, ~70 minutes of great music... or Uniting Nations - out of touch, David Gueta - the world is mine(deep dish remix)... that is some great stuff... but also leave the engine loud enough....
