My 1987 Jaguar XJ6. Project now on effective indefinite leave. :S

Nah, I'm stuck with a bleeding Borg-Warner 35.

Or at least I'm quite sure of it.

And no, I won't make it "GANGSTA YO" with metal flake or anything like that. Just a nice deep red metallic (not metal flake, just average metallic).

In that case, go with a small block Ford. Just as easy and a 4.6 or 5.0 is lighter than a GM 5.7, and still makes more grunt than the 4.2 stocker.

And just think, VIP rides are beginning to be all the rage over Civics, 240's and such.
And an XJ certainly qualifies as a VIP ride.

I see:
Tinted windows, Kickin' ICE, a set of 18" wheels with a 35 or 45 series tire with a LOWER overall profile (it's MORALLY WRONG to put ANY car on 20-24 inch wheels and raise it to near SUV height), Killer paint and body work, perhaps some HID headlights, and as a nod to "old skool" some blue dots in the tail-lights.

Grant also makes wood steering wheels in 3 and 4 spoke styles.

I thought the V12 was the explodey engine and the straight 6 was the bulletproof one?

No they aren't. Even the old iron SBCs weighed a lot less than a 4.6 SOHC does (the LT5 even weighs about the same). The 5.0 was a very light engine, though, weighing even less than the LS1.

Yeah, just, I have something called LUCAS FUEL INJECTION, so while it won't really die, it'll die.

Or not. That's just going buh-bye.

It's not so much the engine, but it's other things, like the electronics and finding parts for it. Stuff like that is what kills you.

Unless someone magically ZOMGHAX'd reality and I have money all of a sudden, it'll be getting a Buick 3800 and 700-R4 swap if it gets a swap at all.

Tint I'll more than likely avoid, because it will be a daily. Just a very light tint job at most. Rims... I'd like to see it with just some nice 15 or 16" blocks of CHROME underneath with raised white letter tires, prolly 235-245 width if it'll manage it.

I nearly bought something similar to this a few years back.

I was planning to stick a 350 in it. Was going to get killed on insurance though, even without the engine swap. :indiff:

Good luck!

Stock heads are known to be poorly done from the factory, also, this is only a 2-valve motor (1949 initial release, what do you expect?) and has (to my eyes) rather poor port design characteristics.

Also, the factory intake and exhaust is very restrictive. Power won't be hard to find I don't think but it also won't be my primary concern for a while. Killing Lucas, the Prince of Darkness and fixing the trans comes first.

What do i expect? My engine was initial released in the early 60's with toothed belt(same thing with chain drive released in 1914.),Inline 4,DOHC with 2 valves per cylinder, and it outputs 105hp from 1600cc with 34/34 DMTR Weber, that fiat dohc, alfa's dohc and ford/cosworth engines had some of the best potential for building back in the days.

I don't :P

They need to be proper 5-spokes.

I would personally polish these wheels,or get some low offset mesh or something 4 spoke.

Congrats on getting the sexiest Jaguar in the last couple of decades. Condition ain't the best, but don't forget...

ShamWow!

I wonder if it works on rust.

Massive bump mode engage.

It's time to start thinking about wheel/tire choices; Due to the plan laid out for this car, we will be using Ford bolt pattern wheels, preferably around 17x9 in size. (5x4.5" bolt pattern)

Now then... I need some help as to where to start. What does GTP think an old cat like this would look good on? I'd love wires but they're a financial impossibility, sooo...

Soooooooooooo whats going on with the car so far? is it still in the same shape? Or have ou managed to get some things taken care of so far?

We've verified that we'll have fuel pressure as soon as we actually have fuel in the tanks and we've finalized the plan for the car.

Basically there's so little we'll be keeping that aside from verifying the current engine as good there is little to do until we strip it and get the body looking right. There's enough rust that I do want to sand blast the entire car, fix the resulting holes in the bodywork, then paint it.

And 5x114 is off JUST enough to not work, sadly.
Have you tried it? Four and a half inches is exactly 114.3mm. Most people just refer to it as x114, but even Honda uses a spread of 114.3mm. We just call it 4x and/or 5x114 because it's two syllables easier to say.

Not sure, but aren't the GM 3.8's engineered to be stuck in sideways, and driving the front wheels.

For what it would cost to make this work, you could go with the v-6 that powered the C1500 truck. I believe it is a little over 4 liters....

I still think a wrecked police car, mustang, or camaro would yeild a nice powerful, EASILY modded v-8 for cheap.

That plan is completely scrapped now; A Lincoln Mark VIII will most likely give its engine, transmission and rear suspension up for this car. (Ford 8.8" diff > Jaguar Salisbury/Dana 44)

Also, RE the 3800s: They are designed to be stuck in FWDs and be transversely mounted, however some 700-R4s and T5s have the correct bellhousing bolt pattern and therefore will bolt up.

That sounds like a much better plan.
The V-6, while "big" for a V-6 is still kind of a wimpy set up for such a cool VIP ride.

That motor is such a beast. My mom's Aviator has that motor, and we used to have a Mark VIII too. Man, that Jag is going to go like stink. And it'll sound mean too.

Why not just keep the way cooler lincoln?

It's ugly and nowhere near as cool.
