My 1987 Jaguar XJ6. Project now on effective indefinite leave. :S

Why not just keep the way cooler lincoln?

Because a Jag with an engine swap to the V8 the Mark VIII had would be insane, and ultimately way more comfortable. Also the Mark VIII is an old person car.

Also, the Lincoln has a horrible rear seat. I'd rather sit in the Jag.

Not sure, but aren't the GM 3.8's engineered to be stuck in sideways, and driving the front wheels.

The Holden Commodore and Monaro would care to disagree. The pre-VZ models all had the 3800 as an optional engine.

I stand corrected.
However, I would be lax in my duties as a curmudgeon and nay-sayer if I didn't point out (tongue firmly planted in cheek) That neither of those cars are available in the US.:D
However the Camaro and Firebird are.

I still believe that it would be more cost/horsepower effective to do a V-8.

More effective to do a V8 when you're starting with nothing; Yes. When you already have 3800s all over the place and in your possession, not so much.

Although if we had gone that way I would definitely have leaned towards some sort of forced induction.

For what it would cost to make this work, you could go with the v-6 that powered the C1500 truck. I believe it is a little over 4 liters....

I still think a wrecked police car, mustang, or camaro would yeild a nice powerful, EASILY modded v-8 for cheap.

The Series I and Series II 3.8L V6's were found in both FWD and RWD cars. The Silverado/Sierra had a 4.3L V6--I'd prefer this over the 3.8L. The 4.3L is definately a better quality product--the 3.8's are known for unreliability when not driven normal.

GM 4.3L + 20psi turbo = insane in the membrane! Otherwise stick with the 3800 Series II (or Series III) + Eaton M90 supercharger (Gens 3-5) found on the W-body. 240/260bhp out of the box will make that Jaguar haul some ass.

But they are impossible to do anything with unless you have parts made up for it special (and the only way to get power out of them is with forced induction). The 3800 hadsuper/turbochargers practically oozing out of junkyards.

I loled.

I know that. Its 3/4s of a 5.7, and is the only version of the original small block still in production. But, short of forced induction, you still can't get any power out of them (well, you probably could, but everyone usually just puts 5.7s in instead).

Its the base engine in the Silverado/Sierra and Express/Savana. The only cheap engine GM has that could feasibly replace it is the Atlas I5, except the Atlas I5 sucks.

Its not that bad. I have one in my Colorado. So far its been very solid. Good power, not a bad torque rating.

The Colorado I drove felt like it was dragging an anchor compared to my Blazer, even though it really isn't that much slower. I don't think that one was the 3.7L, but it still didn't seem too impressive for 11 years of progress.

I only have the 3.5 in mine. (first year truck)
The 3.7 was released in 2k7 if I remember right.

What engine did you have in your Blazer?

Rotary Junkie: Anything back on the Lincoln yet? I didn't realize that you were from MI.

Yeah, hasn't it been mostly replaced? Or do they still use it in the pickups like Ford had been with the 3.8/4.2?

Ford as of the 2009 F150 has done away with the 4.2L V6. The 3.8L as far as I'm aware was dead a while ago. GM still uses the 4.3L in the base models of the truck line. A little tinkering and heads, intake and exhaust opens it up a bit. But the power per dollar is quite bad for the 4.3L. Easier to go after the 5.3L LSx since it is cheaper than the 5.7L and less desirable. :D

Epic bump mode engage.

Two Lincoln Mark VIIIs have been sourced for parts. One mainly stripped (stolen and recovered but never to live again, too much yanked. No nose on it, but it's still got the engine, trans, and rear suspension sooo), and the other mostly complete. $500. And that's two 4.6 DOHC cores, two 4R70s, and two complete rear diffs + suspension.

Also, MinoltaMan, I'm interested in what you consider a "better choice". ;)

Fun. We still haven't even moved the Marks anywhere, haven't touched them (they're still with the previous owner in fact :s), cash is MIA and yeeeah.

Not happy about how things have gone here, but ehh I can't do too much. Hopefully things pan out at least somewhat, as my dad is now looking at moving somewhere nearer to Detroit namely for work, but that will also make it easier to do stuff with the Jag etc... No fun.

So yeah. Ideally it would've been running oh, right about now. Instead it's in the same exact state it's been in since we pulled the steering column out basically. Not at all happy. Meh.
