My cat is missing...*3 Weeks On*

I swear that cat is related to mine!
How old is it?
I've had many cats run away and not come back, but we live in an area with a lot of forest, and plenty of hungry wild animals. Now we tend to keep our cats inside all the time.

He is a year and a bit old, so in cat years he is a teenager.

When I was younger, we had a brother and sister. The brother, a tabbycat, died of Leukaemia. The sister, a tortoiseshell, carried on quite happily and even accepted another female tortoiseshell into her home.
Then she started going missing. Sometimes just for a day, sometimes several days and sometimes even a week or two at a time but she always returned. Everytime she came back, she looked healthy and happy. Eventually we worked out that she'd made herself comfortable at a house round the corner and they'd taken her in, thinking she was a stray!
We went round to see them and let the cat decide - she chose them.

So, we got another cat. The moral is that cats are very self sufficient animals and you don't own them, they own you. I'm sure Tiger will be fine, he's probably just made himself at home somewhere else ;)

Yes, my favourite cat in the world, Tiger has gone missing. Its a slightly gut wrenching feeling as previously when my other cat, Felix, went missing he then died.

As some of you might remember, but most probably won't, Tiger was the cat which I used a avatar on GTP for awhile.

He was also featured in the funny cat thread.

As Tiger is a inquisitive chap, we reckon he might have been accidently shut into someone's garage or cupboard inside, so the search has begun around the neighbourhood. I know that most people won't give a damn about this, but see this as a thread for people to give advice to people who have lost animals and the best ways to help becoming re-united with them.

You checked up a tree yet?

Sorry Speedster502, not a good time for jokes is it. I hope you find him soon! :) 👍

In light of Milford Cubicle's post, is the matter that Tiger is absent from the house, or that Tiger is in good health?

I am sorry; I felt the need to ask.

Mainly that he is still missing, Tiger was in very good health when he dissapeared so it isn't like he would have wondered off to die situation which mostly happens with cats.

Well as you can probably guess...he still hasn't turned up its been just over a week from his dissapearance and still no sign. We've tried everything to try spread the word and get contact from someone. We've posted things through peoples doors to say look out for him, we have posters about, we've phoned the cats protection league, phoned the local vets, phoned the RAF incase he might have gotten on to there. But really we've done all we can, I suppose the last thing to do is just hope he comes home or someone finds him. But I'm starting to loose hope.

After a minute of uncontrollable laughter and making up silly one-liners in my head I came to the conclusion you live by an RAF base...

But anyway, another "have hope story". Shortly after my parents moved us to Swansea from Kent one of the 3 cats we had decided to go exploring, for 2 weeks. Now our biggest worry at the time was she had set off on an epic journey home to kent, which would mean travelling almost literally the width of the UK.

The thing was though, we had moved from a relatively urban area to a rather semi-rural area. With fields infront and behind our house and hence lots of voles and mice. Which we soon discovered the other 2 had quite a skill at catching... So after 2 weeks and having sent off a letter to the owners of our previous house asking them to keep an eye out for a black cat with a white patch on the neck she, Biggy (or Big cat, the largest of the litter) turned up, a little underweight, but otherwise healthy.

Our theory for years has been she fancied her chances going feral but after 2 weeks realised the comforts of regular meals was too good to be missed.

Yeah people tend to think that...

Concerning your story, I actually think that could be whats going on, yes we haven't moved but there are fields around the house so much so that he tends to bring us something every fortnight. So perhaps that might be whats going on, hopefully he'll come back and prefer proper cat food not bird brains...:yuck:

Yeah with spring approaching it wouldn't surprise me if he fancies his chances with birds nests anbd stuff. As soon as he hits a rough patch he'll probably be sitting there with a scowl on his face wondering where the hell his food is.

Hopefully. Or come home sooner.

Anyway, its now been just over 3 weeks since he went missing, it horrific when you put it like that but there's nothing we can do. We don't where he is, if he is hurt or anything. I'm losing hope, and starting to think I may never see him again, which is rather upsetting.

You should try to put up flyers and stuff like that if you haven't yet.

I hope you find him, I would be absolutely devastated if I ever lost my cat.

I feel for you, and encourage you not to give up hope. I had a cat, black and white with those big extra paws that look like thumbs, you know? Very special animal, very close to me, used to go for walks in the woods with me and the dogs, sometimes for miles-poor kitty would be panting with his tongue out by the end. Used to walk to the drive-thru at Burger King with me and the dogs as well-the folks at the window never knew what to think when he'd jump up on the take-out window!

Anyway, I moved to an apartment, there were four other cats already there. I went away for a weekend, when I came back my roomates said they hadn't seen him all weekend. A couple more days went by, no cat. Days turned into weeks, posters were put up, neighbors asked, kept checking the newspaper for lost pets-nothing. After a month or so I moved again, and gave up hope of ever seeing my little bud again.

Three months after he disappeared, I got a call from a former roomate. She told me she was looking in the "found pets" section of the newspaper, and there was a cat that matched the description of mine, being held at the humane society (a place for lost/abandoned/unwanted pets). I went there-and there he was. Skinny and wild looking, but there. Never, ever, ever, did I expect to see him again.

He was found nearly 15 miles from my former residence-I think he was headed to the house he spent most of his time growing up in. You could draw a line on a map-one point at the house he disappeared from, one point where he was found, and one where he'd spent most of his life, and it was straight as an arrow. Maybe he thought I moved back without him!

I got three more years with this cat before the tainted cat-food-from-china deal destroyed his kidneys and I had to let him go, far too soon. I cannot express how lucky I feel, even now, to have had that time.

I guess my point is that strange things happen. I really hope you get your cat back-good ones can be very dear friends and hard to replace. Keep your eyes open and stay optimistic!

We've put plenty of those up, infact every lamp post in the village has one. Thanks for the sympathy.
Has the winter season been mild where you live, Speedster502?

Mild? Well, we haven't had snow or anything like that but then again we never do, the weather has been alright most of Winter often better than it is now.

*Super Long Story*

Thanks, that was a inspiring story to hear, its put some hope back in me. 👍

My friends cat: 'Scran-cat' who was so-called because he liked his food, and in the town where i used to live, they have slang for every word, including food, which in this case, was Scran, disappeared one day, and he'd been loyal to his owner for years.

He never came back, we only ever saw him once after that, and four years had passed by then.

Turns out, there was a neighbour, just a few hundred metres up the road, who had more scran on tap, and he'd taken up refuge at their place.

He was crossing the street one day in front of us, and my friend stopped and said hello to him, but he was being a self-important cat at the time, and gave her a nod, then carried on about his business of mice-chasing and general scran-procurement without batting an eyelid (can cats even bat eyelids?).

She was initially very upset when she couldnt find him, but after 4 years had grown used to the fact that he wasnt coming back, so seeing him again didnt make her want to grab him up and offer him steamed pilchards.
Just seeing him alive and well, and obviously eating enough, was all she needed to feel calm about the whole thing.

Don't worry though, im sure your cat wont be so hunger-intolerant, and will return soon.

Good luck with that.

:irked:👍

Thats one thing i dont like about cats.. They'll just take off on you whenever theres a better home provided to them.

A dog will love you for life no matter how much food is available elsewhere..

But none the less your cat needs to return already!
