That's true, I didnt read it properly though, just skim read it. Like I said I'll try and get hold of it.

Wow that was easy.
Drive Article - Ring of Confidence

I went to the 'Ring a couple of months back, a real petrolheads paradise. Oddly enough I'm pretty sure it was the same weekend those magazine guys were there, cos I distinctly remember a bright yellow 350Z going round with a camera mounted on its roof, and everyone was saying they were from a magazine.

RL vs GT4: perspective seems somehow messed up. In RL the straights seem longer and the corners seem tighter. Otherwise what everyone's being saying about comparative speeds is spot on:embarrassed:n all but the most rubbish tyres GT4 is too fast.

That Roser was going very very quick though, make no mistake.

If you want to go to the 'Ring, (you must, you must) check opening times to the puiblic (it's not always open), book hotels in advance (some weekends they can be heavily booked). We went on bikes (GSX-R750 for me), but got rained off the first day (see magazine article), and didn't go round. What would we have learned?

We decided that the best thing to do would be to bring the bikes on a trailer behind something fast (Nick wants to buy a 306 GTi6 specially). Then if it rained you could still go round in something. Plus you wouldn't have the tedium of Belgian motorways to deal with on a bike.

The wet day was still great though, as the museums and other stuff kept us kids amused till tea time. It wasn't till we actually got on the circuit that we realised what we'd been missing.

I tell you what, though, 75% of the cars there, you'd say "if I had the money, I'd have that". Evo's, Porsches, Elises, loads of great cars. The other 25% were old hot hatches, Alfa 75s, 3 series and stuff that seemed to be purely for the'Ring, roll cages, fat exhausts elastic band tyres. Look like sh**, go like sh**. Not more than £1000 for the basic car. Great.

Oh and the Novotel we ended up in was £120/night!!! Then we got to the room and found our balcony looked out over the Grand Prix track. We stayed.

You gotta go.

with a corvette Z06 and n2 tires. its hard to get under 7:50 on the ring... so.. they must have used some racing tires or something. i havent tried the bmw myself yet so i dont know

50/50
i bet that if the guy from drive used N2 tires they would have matched up far better than they did....

For me at the Ring the N2 or N3 don't make a big difference. :)

I think we are missing a big point in this debate. How you play GT4 & EPR plays a part in this. For instance do you downshift/upshift in a fast corner? In real life I would assume when driving on the limit you want to keep both hands on the wheel, specially in high speed corners? In the game for us it's just a push of the button. In the game I do my downshift in time before a corner like I would in real life. I wanna sit "balanced" in the seat with both hands on wheel. I also think you need some skills to do good downshifts with correct revs etc without unsettling the car??

Also in a game it's easy to "cheat" with left foot braking. We can have our left foot on/over the brake all the time, while in real life we would have to use a clutch aswell, so we can't left foot brake when downshifting.

And off course the famous fear factor. Specially at the ring with some of it's high speed corners. One mistake and you'll be in a lot of trouble. In the game we can quickly find and use the limit. But try and drive so you are 99% sure you would not go off, even then I'm sure we all would go slower in real lfie than in the game. Also think of how much time we would need in real life to actually find the limit! It's easy to find the limit in the game and be able to do it 9 out 10 times, but in real life that 10th time might be the last? 👎

I'm get pretty close lap times in EPR and GT4 (N3) with the same car. Also checked compared to real laptimes and I get pretty close with my DFP. I try to drive like I think I would drive at the Ring if I was actually there. Then again in real life I would be much, much, much slower because off the fear factor and off course my real life skills :) And I'm a wuzz (correct word?) 👍

But if I just wanted to get good times in the game, I would do a lot of things different.

Play it like a game, or play it like a sim.

I've tried the 330 on N2s and got a 8:45 for a reasonably clean lap. I'm sure there are some guys out there who are quite a bit faster than me, but 7:20? No way, not even on S tires.

I think the issue with the starting point is because the track in GT4 and seems Enthusia as well is the Nordschlieffe which, in its entirety is no longer existent.
Of course it still exists. Only the entrance/exit for tourist runs has been moved to the Döttinger Höhe.

Not a bad argument about the shifter... another compelling point in the fear factor argument... considering I hew away at the shifter like a maniac in game, but at speeds of 200 km/h through Schewdenkreuz, I doubt anyone would have the courage to do that...

I'm happy I can put my link here, thanks to the user main poster here! I didn't though of that.

Here a fine replay Video of Enthusia in Nurburgring!

I'll my an inside one with the VGS later tonight.

Also I'll add why GT4 ring look realistic. The reason it's because the car view actually change the camera view that you get in RL.

Inside view will be done in few hour.

Thanks.

Well I just basically match your time at 8'12.679 and watch it back and forth to compare lines.

Almost exact copycats hehe.
Just thought it was interesting to see how ppl drive the ring 👍

Mr Deap
Comfort tires in Arcade mode. It's even written in the vid along the Number of HP in the beginning of the replay...

I hope you made it with the wheel as well...

With the controller I'm a lot faster. I'm still not used to GT4 when the car oversteer. I wonder if I'm faster now... the replay was made 6 months ago when I was still not used to the wheel...

Of course using the DFP, I got 8'10 right after posting. probably max for me is 8'08 and some guru's here probably 8'02.

Just watched an old movie from Best Motoring were Gan-San take a Skyline R32 around the Ring. The speedo shows just over 200 Km/h when he goes over the bump before Flugplatz :) The car seems to pretty stable and don't seem to jump at all.
