Anybody want to pipe in on what you feel is holding Dale Earnhardt Jr. back from winning a race ?

He has talent,he is with one of the best teams Nascar has to offer, why can't he find victory lane ?

"Tony...Eury...Jr."

Old news.

I'm still giving Mayfield the benefit of the doubt on the failed drug test. If all he took was Clartin along with a prescribed medicine, then there really isn't much merit for NASCAR suspending him other than for the substances within those medicines that caused the failed read out.

Newman back where he belongs, on pole. I think Hendrick shipped all Jr.s cars over to Stewart-Haas and gave him crappy ones.

I think if Hendrick really wanted to fix Jr.'s situation, he'd fire Eury Jr., I think the personal relationship they have is getting in the way of the team being successful.

thank you

My dad and I go over this every race every week. What can help Jr. be better? The crew chief.

The second of two big races this weekend is the Coca-Cola 600. Or as I like to call it, NASCAR's version of Le Mans. It's a 500 mile race, but you have to endure 100 more miles. All of this done at the amazing Charlotte/Lowe's Motor Speedway. Anyone want to make picks for NASCAR's only 600 mile race all season?

I think you may be right.

Agreeing with you and TS.

Perhaps Hendrick Motorsports should evaluate this and make a change ? How about swapping crewchiefs with the 48 or the 24 for a race or two and see what could happen ?
I feel fairly confident that Rick Hendrick is really not to high on Little E. at this moment.Earnhardt needs to step it up a bit.

My picks to win the World 600 at Charlotte Sunday are Mark Martin and Tony Stewart. As for Earnhardt Jr. peforming subpar the past 5 seasons, I do believe a crew chief swap is in order. Remember when Tony Eury Sr. was his crew chief? Dale Jr. was running up front week in and week out. If something isn't done soon by Nascar or Hendrick, Redn... I mean "Junior Nation" will probably start sending death threats to Mr. Hendrick and company for their "star" driver not running as well as his teammates.

Do you guys think they'll have drained Daytona in time for the 400?

I certainly hope Daytona can dry out long enough for that race to happen. Good news is that Coke Zero 400 the race is in two weeks time, not next weekend. NASCAR will be at Dover next weekend (which is the NASCAR on FOX 2009 finale).

 👍 TRUE THAT

Hendrick cars :
1st in points - Jeff Gordon
4th in points - Jimmie Johnson
11th in points - Mark Martin
18th in points - Dale Earnhardt Jr. ( The "star" driver is 89 points out of the last chase spot as well, granted, there's still time, but he really does need to step it up a notch or two )
39th in points - Brad Keselowski - not overly talented, but he's in a good car, probably should be in a better spot than 39th.

Hey Fred - how about power boat racing at Daytona if the water does not go down ? 💡:dopey::P

Nice pic,btw

You forgot Martin in 11th, also Brad is in a good spot considering he is only doing part time this season.

Gee, that's some complex maths... A 600 mile race being a 500 miler with an extra 100 on top? :P

If they have proper drainage installations they can get the track itself out in a day or two once the rain stops.

Not to mention Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart in Hendrick-assisted teams.

Bad idea, why mess up another team by doing that? Why do you think they didn't swap crew chiefs between the 5 and 88?

This, put Eury Sr. back on the box. Technically, he's working for Hendrick (under the JR motorsports banner) as crew chief for Keselowski in the Nationwide series.

I do wonder - could a crew chief do double duty on two cars? Or, if there's a limit imposed by NASCAR, make the calls for both cars but have a "puppet" repeating them for one of the cars?

Like one crew chief working with two different teams or one crew chief working in the nationwide series on Saturday and the cup race on Sunday?

I believe the latter is true and has been done before.

Crew Chiefs do Double Duty all the time(Biffle always uses his cup CC). However doing it full time in both series would be a horrible idea. They would probably be to stressed and be sick by the middle of the season because there would just be to much for them to deal with. Maybe in the pre-COT days they might have been able to since the cars weren't that different but these days the differences are major.

What a joke of a race today

Not even worth discussing it

Agreed, another one of those "Kyle Busch dominates, but has no trophy to show for it" stories we've seen in the Nationwide series recently.

But I'm happy for Reutimann, good to see someone who's busted his ass and struggled to make it this far deserves to win.

That's true, but there are an awful lot of people that are going to write off his victory as being a fluke, because it came in the Coca-Cola 340. I agree that maybe he didn't "deserve" to win this race in the same way Kyle Busch or Kasey Kahne did, although a win on strategy is just as valid as a win on speed. However, he does deserve to win a race, for good sportsmanship and plenty of strong runs ruined by a lack of luck of the type he had today, if not necessarily this one.

It really is a shame that two of the most high-profile Sprint Cup races this year have been rain-shortened, including the 50th anniversary of the 600. All we need now is for the Brickyard 400 and the season finale at Homestead to suffer the same fate, right?

I could see it happening if nationwide and cup are at the same track, but not if thier at seperate tracks on the same weekend.

If you even want to call it a race that is.

Still waiting for the Sprint Cup broadcast, but the Nationwide race was exciting. Kyle Busch's epic charge from the back was unbelievable - some 20 positions gained on the first lap, and by lap 40 (minus 15 caution-laps), he was in the lead!

Just to let you know Metar, the race has a couple rain delays before the lap 228 finish.
Hopefully you have an edited rebroadcast and won't have to wait out the rain delays.
The first delay is not too long but the latter is about an hour.

Very interesting TS,funny how we started discussing this same matter in this forum about a week or so before this came out.

Lets see what happens.

Something has to happen, there's no way that his performance from last year to this year can drop off this much considering that other than some pit crew members, this team is identical as it was last year.
